If Michael Pachter pins this forecast of his right, then we just might see an Xbox Live costing US$ 100 per year for Gold membership in the next couple of years.In a video discussion at GTTV, Pachter gave out his bold prediction/ opinion/ analysis:
You can't hook a guy into Xbox Live Gold if he's playing on a PC... that's the other problem - you really want to hook every gamer who has a 360, you want them to buy all their games on 360, play everything multiplayer, pay your 50 bucks a year so that, in a couple of years, it's a 100 bucks a year. And that's going up, we all know that.. it's a profit deal.
Will you be signing up still if it does balloon to a hundred bucks?

Wow, if it does, its time to say hello to the ps3!
Fk you microsoft! nintendo and psn are totally free! PC users have an even better time.
But to pay 100bucks for access to online multiplayer, is like buying a game then being held at gunpoint to play the multiplayer, your kinda forced too if you wanna have fun. i thought paying 8bucks a month was a lot, now its getting out of hand.
In short, convert to PS3 or get the resources to get a good PC. PS3 being affordable now, theses almost no games worth keeping for online play.
I personally will have a 360 for OFFLINE games, tales of versperia and FFXIII and other 1 player adventure games.
That would be so beyond *****ed up it's ridiculous. I wouldn't touch my 360 if it wasn't for XBL and MS knows that many of their owners are the same way. And they know they have consumers like me by the balls so they can do what they want. I feel like it's a threat...either pay 100 bucks a year or let your console collect dust.
Anyway, I'm getting worked up for nothing. I don't think they'll raise it to 100

the price has never gone up since it came out in 2002 so why now is this guy saying its going to double all of a sudden it makes no sense
at the very least this wouldn't happen until sony starts charging for PSN.
i'd almost be willing to pay that if they abandoned p2p hosting and had dedicated servers. no more suspend cheating and modding...
MS needs to make it 0, because part of the agreement us original Xbox live users agreed to was FREE DLC when we signed up for the original xbox, then MS blamed the devs for pricing the DLC, then now the devs blame MS. fact is no free dlc, then no price on using the internet, since WE host our games anyway.
does seem like a Microsoft thing to do you know. The only thing holding them back is the PS3 at the moment. And I am pretty sure they tried this already cause If I remember correctly Xbox Live used to cost 60 for Xbox 360 users once the Xbox 360 came out and people complained so they put it back down to 50 I think.

You just proved to yourself that they could and would. You say you wouldn't touch your system if it wasn't for XBL and alot of other users are the same... and MS knows this... EXACTLY.
That is a perfect reason for Microsoft to up the price of XBLG, they KNOW people will pay it. Microsoft doesn't generally care what you think, they're out to make money. It's exactly why simple, quite low cost items like wifi addons and hdds are super expensive when coming from Microsoft.
The same technology to make the network adapter can be sold for PCs in a USB stick for $10 and the company selling it is still making money. Microsoft charges you $100 for that tool.
Then there's the hard drives... $119 for a 60gb in stores for a $25 (if that) hard drive encased in $3 worth of parts from MS.
It's obvious they're out to make as much money as they can and I see a jump to $100/yr for live a foreseeable thing.
Same reason they have price cuts for consoles and games: The demand goes down.. so they do something to stimulate demand.
In this case, demand is going up, so they can obviously get more money for it. Even if they lose a lot of people, doubling the price of Live would more than triple their profits more than likely
That sounds all fine and dandy but you must remember WE'RE hosting OUR game on THEIR servers.
but again, MS will do something ridiculous like that kinda like charging $100 to fix RROD consoles that are even a day past 3 years, $150 for a 120GB HD, $40 for a 512MB memory unit, paying for online in the first place, $100 wireless adapter.
PS3 120GB is $300.
Xbox 360 120GB is $300. + Wireless adapter and 1 year XBL and you're up to $450. There is no need to go up to f*cking $500 for the package. Sony did something right with their free online. The hardcore gamers may need their (whatever xbl has that psn doesnt) but the average user is fine with PSN. I got a 360 and cod4 and played on xbl for months, after my xbl ran out i was debating on whether to spend $50 on live or $40 on cod4 for ps3. I choose $40 for cod4 on ps3 but right after I thought I had made the wrong choice because of the controllers being different. Wrong, I am pulling 25-2 on free for alls on PS3 easily.
So my point, with the new price drop, MS should really be thinking about lowering prices, not increasing live to $100/year. PS3 has a chance of beating 360 this holiday season.
server seems to be done a lot look at Battle.net it is all ad supported which I never see anymore but is still running for Warcraft 3 and Starcraft and those sorts. Guess Blizzard is making enough money on WoW to give a ***** about ad revenue from battle.net Other than that it is all done P2P. Matchmaking servers cost nowhere near 100 dollars a year per person to run and still nowhere near 50 to run. I don't know but I will find it funny if a monopoly claim came up in court for increase of price and they are forced to open up to third parties to run matchmaking servers. This will be awesome cause dirt low prices but downside is the community would get split between servers. Only if there was a way where they still got combine somehow.
You realize the Xbox360 wireless device is a 10/100 ethernet to wireless b/g converter, right? Those things still go for in excess of 100$+ if they are of decent quality. At the time the MS one came out, they ran more in the line of 250$+ for a simple linksys ethernet to wireless adapter.
So, no, it is not a 10$ wireless adapter.
The HDD is overpriced, no one can deny that. Though its 150$ for the 120gb model and yes, thats unbelievably overpriced. still, whatever.
Also, I love how people forget that Sony is out to make money, too. Instead they just charge the developers, instead of the consumers.

How does it being xbl make it worth it? It's the Internet. You already pay for it. Microsoft just adds another layer of charges to it so it becomes better?
His prediction doesn't make sense and doesn't really have any substantial evidence that someone could see or use to conclude XBL will eventually cost $100 and rising. It sounds ridiculous and as crazy as M'soft is I know they would see this as ridiculous as well. I haven't touched my PS3 for awhile until uncharted 2 came out and unless more games like uncharted 2 come out for the PS3 this alone wouldn't warrant me to turn off the 360 and keep the ps3 powered up but this is just such a ridiculous claim or rumor which anybody can go out and start but it's just not holding up on it's own legs.
Patcher said Wii will get a price cut...........Nintendo did refuse to cut Wii prices but within a month Wii had a official $50 chipped off of the console.............

Teivin.... I am not sure where you get that it is a converter.....it is plain and simple an overpriced USB wireless adapter.
If it was a converter it would need you to plug the ethernet into the usb adapter.....but it does not do this. You can have both the wireless adapter plugged in, as well as the wired connection.
Also, every company is out to make money....MS is just trying to be extra greedy, especially when you consider how much money they already make....
yes for a while the initial outlay for the ps3 was pretty high but, you get what you pay for. i bought a 360 after my ps3 and i have regretted it ever since. all i really use it for now is to play my pirated games before i buy them on ps3. i dont get how people say xbl is so much better. yeah its got a few extra features that the ps3 doesnt have... YET. but thats just not enough to be worth paying for. most of my friends have ps3's and a couple had 360's. they have since sold or traded in their 360's to buy a ps3 because playing online is exactly the same. plus psn has way better content than xbla. i bought my second ps3 a few weeks ago to serve as a media centre in my bedroom because it does that so well in my lounge area. judging by NPD a lot of people are starting to realise that now that its had the price cut.
xbl will go up in price. thats a given. the thing is, what are you gonna do about it? pay it? or dump it?
i only paid for it once. 12 months and i barely touched it. here in australia they are already charging nearly $100 rrp and considering our $$'s are almost equal thats a joke. thats probably a good reason why it never really took off so well here. most console gamers own ps3's. you pay once and youre done with it. everything is included in the box. all ya need is games and a $5 hdmi cable.
My 360 RROD on me 2 days ago and it was not hot. Your 360 does not need to overheat to fk up! More like 30 minutes of gameplay will fk it up! What im saying is Craposoft makes all of this money but they cant figure out a way to invest this MONEY into a 100% totally re-made brand new xbox 360!!! UGHH this really grindz my gears. Im sorry Halo franchise and Gears of War but i cannot go back. IM GITTIN A PS3!!!
Seriously this is why i got a ps3 cuz you have to spend 300 bucks on a system games that you enjoy come out every 2 or three years you have to pay to play them?? All together 300+100+80+80+Longti me=560Bucks or 460+100/year and long time.. where as movies 100dvd+25movie=125bucks forever plus 25 bucks once in awhile and good movies come out on a regular basis.. and there is no 100 dollar fee every year. seems to me like gaming companies are taking advantage of the fact that we have no choice ps3 xbox wii(NO) or pc. M$ is the worst though...

You do know that Microsoft is also paying every developer it ever has had. And yes Sony does over charge their developers. But it works and we still have new game developers.Microsoft on the other hand are buying them off so they get something.

I have a two year old Xbox 360, and it's on a lot. Yesterday, I watched a movie and then left it on while I went out, came back 6 hours later, played some more, and turned it off. It has been the same for the last year or so, and it's still working as well as when I first bought it.
Besides, I do not know a single person in real life whose Xbox 360 would have RROD'd. I'm not saying that the RROD would be bullcrap, I'm just saying that people like you make it seem like your 360 would RROD the next day after you've bought it.
Oh yeah, my 360 did RROD the next day.. but the power cord was loose.
