Overlord - ready to lead your minion army? - Image 1

Do you have your evil laugh down pat? Finally, the outlet for your despotic and twisted side is here. The Overlord demo is now available at the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Triumph Studios and Codemasters' upcoming title is bent on getting players set up with their very own faithful and loyal minion army. Who wouldn't want one? In the demo, you'll get to wear that uber cool Overlord armor and raise your army or minions. Then you'll get to wreak havoc in The Mellow Hills, generally scare the innocent populace (and rob them for everything they're worth), and gather lifeforce from sheep. Plus you can upgrade your minion army - even pumpkins will work as helmets for them.

Also included in the demo is a fight with the Guard Troll at the Slave Camp. So many towns to destroy, dark towers to build, heroes to defeat, and places to conquer with so little time. Most of that will come in the full game, of course. Overlord will feature three other minion types, an army of up to 50 minions, a number of other domains to explore, and seven twisted heroes to face off with.

You'll get to enjoy all of that come June 29. PC gamers, don't despair. The PC demo will be coming in a couple of days.

» Haven't you learned?

The demo market is for lesser known titles that got poor reviews to get it's hype. Lost planet a year early is a main example. Did they do a demo for Gears? No. Did they have to do a demo for Halo 3? Honestly, yes because he market remembers the 2 to 3 year delay that Halo 2 had over it's initial announcement so they had to give you something playable so you could feel it's real.

I think that if it wasn't for mediocre games getting demos (Lost Planet, Overlord, Dead Rising, Fight Night Round 3) they would end up being in the back log of the games list and no one would have ever played these one hit wonders because everyone is looking for more sequal-itius (Halo 3, GTA IV, Madden 2008, Gears of War 2, Splinter Cell V, ect) when people should be paying more attention to the new IP's that are coming out....

Bioshock, Darkness, Assassin's Creed, Too Human, Mass Effect, and Conan will all not have demos because of two reasons 1) Too violent and if violent content was so easy to get to then how is it going to be known as a family system. 2) They are already in the media as a "Triple A" titles, so why do they need to pay for the extra marketing through a demo?

Let's face it, the history of a demo proves that the games that are on demo discs have never been good games, why would it need a demo if it was a reviewer's dream game?

» No fool

As Shatterdome, said, there have been more demos released on XBL in the past few weeks than PSN has in total. Der

So instead of 1.5 years compared to over seven months (not "a couple", come the 18th the PS3 will have been out for eight months) it's two or three weeks compared to over seven months.

Edit (since I don't want to rework the whole thing): I just noticed you said "whilst", which I'm assuming means you live in the UK and you have had the PS3 for only a few months. However, that would still be a stupid thing to compare by since obviously the PSN wasn't inactive until you guys got it

» Excuse me?

You've got to be the biggest idiot on QJ, and that is a dishonor of the highest magnitude.

"Mediocre games like Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Fight Night Round 3"? Do you know how well those games scored in reviews? FN3 is (I think) the only game OXM gave a perfect 10/10. Lost Planet and Dead Rising also have a very high review average. From Metacritic: 85 average over 81 reviews for Dead Rising, 79 over 75 reviews for Lost Planet, and 86 over 67 reviews for Fight Night. All of which are amazing scores for Metacritic.

What a waste of time, writing all that just to make yourself look like a fool who has no idea what he's talking about.

» not that good of a demo

I have to agree with axx being the bad guy is a good idea but the game is kinda crap the camera angles were pissing me off

and one more thing I know you guy are going to get mad at me but come on how many of the demos that came out this week were really that good I would have rather them come out with one really good demo like bioshock then all of the carp ones they came out with vampire rain, tencuh z or how ever you spell it and shadow run isn't that good either. I think the best demos that have come out are the forza 2,and dirt
