Last week, when Cliff Bleszinski explained that the multiplayer of Gears of War would disallow ranked team play, a lot of people got confused. He clarified that:
It's "ranked" meaning that when you are joining a ranked match you are being shown games that are determined to be at the same level as you are by the Xbox Live arbitration system and TrueSkill. You cannot join with your friends as that would throw the system off given they are likely to be at different ranks and also makes it easier to cheat. So when you search for ranked match you only see games that are playing at your level. It's required by Microsoft to be this way.
Fine. It stands to logic. No cheaters, same level of difficulty, required by the "Big M." Sure. Can't argue with that (especially the last bit). But it seems that a multiplayer game like this that emphasizes team play won't let us play with our friends. We're going to be thrown into the battle with others who are just about as good (or bad) as we would be.
Just recently, Epic Games Vice President Mark Rein suggested that they might offer some additional functionality in the future. As to what kind of functionality, who knows. All we can do now is sit tight and keep our fingers on the trigger. While a lot of people feel that a game of this caliber should allow team play with folks you personally know, the bomb of hope is still there, waiting to explode into possibility.

eaiest way ever to f*** the multplayer option of an excelent game. GO M$ GO! ... what´s the problem to put options like: * RANKED MP * NO-RANKED MP that way EVERYBODY should like. solo guys would prefer RANKED system... friends (aka clan) just choose the other. so fuc**** simple. this remember me when i was complaing with the ironlore dev´s about gore option on titan quest game (pc)... * more option - more peoplo should enjoy * my two cents
Just two modes, friends modes(without ranking changes) and Ranked mode(with ranking changes etc) I think the big problem is that every multiplayer game will change rankings and it can't be blocked, but i don't know for sure
I dont really care.... I play player matches and couldn't give a crap about my rank. Who cares? It's not like you unlock stuff with higher ranks, only gamer poitns when you get 100 chainsaw kills and such... So why not just play Player matches and invite your friends? Why do you HAVE to have your friends in a ranked match? I think that Saints Row awesome clan option should be implemented....where clans can go on other clans....then you could have Clan Rankings each week...
All the reasons of why I quit Halo 2 are reoccurring.. figures. M$ always does this to their products. GG.
does anyone think gow isn't really that good. Played it for around 1 hr today and found it getting very tedious. Oh well, at least it was free ;-)
Rankings are what cause cheating, not being able to play with your friends in ranked matches. Game developers know this, but people (nerds) are suckers for rankings, and it pulls more people in, so it's not going anywhere. It's easy to find a Ranked game your friend hosts anyway, so Epic loses
The best way to fix this is like a lobby system when your 4 friends join and pick a random ranked room. Im sorry but if Halo 2 (xbox 1 game) lets you do it, this game should to.
Ranked Non-Raked. Problem Solved. But I can live without playing with my friends. It stops boosting, and are less likely to face cheaters.
If you want to play with your friends... start a player match... Simple as that, you CAN play with your friends, just has to be a player match, play Ranked games when no one is on.
I'm ready to kill myself here. In the UK and the game ain't even out yet. It's out everywhere else practically and is even available to download of the net! I want that game!!!!!!
first off actually reinforce your statement why is it tedious? if so get off that ***** easy difficulty and play insane mode or hardcore, trust me, you wont be able to even kill something and the last part, o well at least its free with some homoerotic smiley face at the end is unneeded Shut up and play the game
