Alright, we know a lot of you guys have been waiting for more details on the 360 Fall Dashboard update, and now, news have just reached our ears that Microsoft has released the complete feature list!

With around 85 new and improved XBLM and XBLA features, well, it'll be pretty hard for us to congest all of that 'coz we're sure you guys wanna know everything (and we mean everything!) about the changes they made. So...instead, we'll try and give you a gist of the new updates, especially most of the features that most of you guys have been asking us about for quite some time now. Here goes:
  • 1080p video support over VGA and component cables.
  • start menu for XNA-developed games
  • HD-DVD player support
  • WMV playback via streaming from PC (using WMP 11), from a USB drive or a CDR/DVDR, 360 memory units, and even from Zune software!
  • Support for XNA Game Studio Express (separate download and subscription required.)
  • automatic download of new XBLA trial games
  • scoreboards for XBLA titles can be viewed without starting the game
  • better sound quality for voice chat
  • wireless headset and wireless racing wheel support
  • Video support for 50 Hz HDTV modes
Oh, and we thought you guys should know that Famitsu reported that the Fall update's release will be on October 31st...in Japan. We don't know yet if this'll be a worldwide release like the previous ones, or if it's just for Japan, but what we do know is that the update will be free and available to ALL Xbox Live members. You can check out some of the screens of the fall update we scored below.

Thank God MS released the full list already, otherwise we'd be agonizing over Engrish translations and telling you guys that we'll be "Chasing, we convey details!" Hahaha. The list dons all the mentioned features and lots lots more, so if you wanna see the full list of features, simply head on to the Xbox site by clicking on the read link below.

Kudos to Blimblim over at the Neogaf forums for the pics!

» Finally....

You can stream WMV's without freaking meadia center....although you still need WMP11....which is hard to get if you sail a ship and wear a patch with a crow on your shoulder....but some good improvements, nice....

Will this update affect moded Xbox's?

by brian - 2006-10-30 08:05
» no WMP 11

you dont need wmp11, you can use windows media connect or play wmv's off of a dvd/cd or portable storage device. the same way you would play audio files of view pics.

» Hmmmm.....

No mention of security or detecting mod firmware..... I wonder.

I sure hope not! I want everyone to mod fw and watch the 360 die like the dreamcast. I am sorry I just hate microsuck.

I agree these updates do nothing for me. When are they going to enable 720p/1080i upconversion dvd playback for the 360? I thought this was a upcoming thing that they were working on.

Are you sure you can use Windows Media Connect for streaming videos? It doesn't say you can...

» Man O Man

Ok This is going to be a great update that most of us with 1080p tv are going to enjoy. On the mod issue you are all crazy to think if you have one are going to last long anyway. I hope they do start banning more mac address for all you retards who do mod. Because you should support the company for who they are A great company. Chit.......... Most of you kids dont even remember when pc wernt in existence. And Microsoft made alot happen for all of us. Hardware and software.

» up converting

it already does up convert the dvds....

by Christopher C. - 2006-10-30 10:29
» Upconverting DVD video has been enabled in this update.

However because of DRM's it's only possible over VGA (perhaps HDMI, but I'm not certain).

by ej_424 - 2006-10-30 10:33
» Upconverting DVD's

It doesnt already upconvert DVD's. Currently the standard xbox 360 drive produces the video at 480p not 720p and 1080i like the upconverting dvd players on the market. I'm not talking about the xbox 360 HD-DVD addon drive I'm talking about the original drive. Also to Christopher C., Your talking about the HD-DVD Drive add-on thats coming out soon.

Whatever happend to americans standing behind other americans?

I mean its so many people that want to see microsoft die its unbelieveable. it doesnt make sense to me, why do you think sony and nintendo are so popular in japan? its because their are japanses compaines and their people support their countries product they realise that the more sony and nintendos sell the more money placed back into their econamy and thier money is worth more. (not to be racisit) but in any city anywhere in the usa you see asian people driving asian made cars. because they take pride in the stuff that was made by thier people.

anyway just venting

» It's not easy

It's definately not easy to mod the firmware, especially on newer consoles. Besides, it's the DVD drive's firmware that's modded, not the console's. Your dream will not come true and $ony will hit rock bottom.

» ...

Why were almost all posts in this forum modded as 0 stars? Sony fans trying to muscle out the competition? Grow up, this comment system had been working great until now. I have since upmodded the ones that deserved to be viewed, it looks a bit more respectable now.

Back on topic, It is great to see that you can now view WMVs off USB devices. Are there any size limits? Or can you hookup a 500GB USB drive and browse that? I wish they supported more codecs than WMV, but at least conversion is available. It'd also be great to keep your entire MP3 collection on this drive.

» Installation procedure

Throw that Wii peice of sh*t in the trash and buy an xbox 360. An aftermarket company will make a motion sensor controller eventually so Wii will be nothing but obsolete crap. Ohh a 2X speed Gamecube with gimmicy, impractical for most games, controller. Just like the DS. How many DS games make good use of 2 screens or the touch screen?

Boring Updates. Half of then are to put things that was unfinished until the launch. 1080p Support. This is a real Joke. Sorry, but my x360 will fry the right time it plays a real heavy game running at 1080p. Btw. It don't have enought hardware to do that. Many games, in 720p are already running with framerate drops. Can you imagine games at 1080p ? It's just to show HD-DVD content and made the X360 full HD compatible, for moview at least. I don't see any game running in 1080. Maybe a 2Dimensional game...

um 1080 was even done on the ps2 and xbox1 at full frames, and splitercell runs flawlessly and is a native 1080 game, i suggest you learn about things before your crack down on the console. if you have nothing intelligent to say keep your bashing opinions to yourself

by Xbox is the best - 2006-10-30 16:03
» 1080i

1080i was done on xbox and ps2 not 1080p.

by jon - 2006-10-30 16:05
» dude...

splinter cell isnt 1080p.

» for jon

for the one who said splintercell isnt 1080p. splintercell is done in NATIVE 1920x1080 textures meaning it is a 1080i and 1080p game depending on how its outputed, since the xbox currently doesnt output at 1080p it is restricted to 1080i but once the dash update is out Splintercell will be a true native 1080p game.

by Vietone - 2006-10-31 02:30
» 1080p

For one until Microsoft makes a HDMI cable for the Xbox360, people will have to accept the fact that 99% of TVs downscale 1080p to 1080i before its processed when you use component.

Also, HDCP is a hardware level encryption. Meaning that Microsoft wont be able to implement HDCP using a software update. This means the only way the Xbox360 can truly output 1080p to the HDCP TVs, is if they make a piece of hardware that connects to the Xbox360 to encode the signal.

If the Xbox360 were to natively include HDCP, it would have been included a hardware chip with the video card. If you notice, newer TVs wont accept 1080p signals from PCs that dont have a HDCP chip. Thats why Nvidia and ATi recently released their HDCP video cards.

Look over the feature list, the Xbox360 graphics card does not have a HDCP chip. So you will be limited to 1080i unless you have a older TV that didnt use HDCP.

You could always get a Computer Monitor. They accept 1080p signals through VGA or DVI.

» TS-943 Xtreme 3.3 works with update

I made the Update, restarted the X360, conntect to XboxLive insert Fifa07 DVD+R/DL and it`s working !!!!!

:-))

by sakura - 2006-10-31 02:46
» poster above me

the hdmi chord is simply for tvs that downscale component (most tvs these days have 1080p thru component) when used the games will be able to output and stay 1080p on a tv set. the hdmi chord isnt intended for hdcp its just to fix the issue with some tvs downscaling component. hdcp is hardware builtin to the hd-dvd addon where it will only be used so basically ms is doing ok with its decisions sofar.

» piracy blows

good for you, *****. way to contribute to the downfall of the system by supporting piracy. if you can't afford to buy the damn games, then you shouldn't have bought the 360 in the first place.

» hope

i hope microsoft doesnt screw up this update so it will destroy your 360 if you have a japanese account but american 360 lol, (if such a thing)
