No Gears of War for Germany

Ó

wonder why he looks so pissed?

First they stopped the zombies from rising with Dead Rising, and now Marcus won't be making it to Europe">Germany too?! My oh my, our German friends must be gearing up for war with USK now that news is starting to spread that Gears of War won't be landing on German shores.

Apparently, USK (Germany's ESRB) refused to give GoW an age rating despite Microsoft's appeals. CVG reports that USK would only allow GoW to be sold in the country if Epic agrees to make a cut-down version of the shooter game (read: less blood, chainsaw-ing gore and violence), to which Epic said that it simply wouldn't be possible without significantly changing the game's core gameplay.

But USK stands by their decision that due to the game's extreme violence and visually graphic body-chainsawing antics, they have stripped Gears of War of an official release in the country. This is a huge blow not only to our German gamers (our hearts bleed for you, guys) but also to Microsoft and Epic, as Germany remains as one of the biggest markets for video games in Europe. No word yet on Microsoft and Epic's response to this news but we will inform you once news reaches our ears, so make sure you check back with us for more updates.

That really sucks, Germany is the 3rd largest economy in the world. Im sure if they just changed the color of the blood, and made the bodies not actually cut in half with chainsaw, they would accept it.

screw germany, cencorship is a denial of rights.

First Dead Rising, now Gears of War? What the ***** is the point of owning an Xbox 360 if your country doesn't allow it's most anticipated games? What's next, Halo 3? ***** balls!

you would think a country with a history like theirs would be smart enough to NOT let some politician step on their rights AGAIN...

i cant believe they are choosing what the people get to play or not whats the point of being of legal age to buy a game and not being able to buy it...

I cant believe the people are not trying to boycott the decision

# no problem at allGuest 2006-10-18 17:25
as some already said, i don´t see that this is a problem. you can even get the game at amazon.de , but it will only be shipped to adults...

ok, you won´t see it in the big stores or see any advertising, but most people will already know about it and will get an import game from an online shop...

politicians here in germany are very concerned about violence in video games or movies, in the u.s. it´s sexual content. remember gta and the hot coffee mod ??? as far as i know, some politicians tried to ban it ....

Greets from Germany !

# Problem Easy to solve....Guest 2006-10-18 21:55
If Epic & Microsoft makes the make MULTI-REGION then the germans would be able to play i.e. a PAL / USA version!

OK you wont get sales of the game in Germany but games sales would potentially be boosted in other regions (hmmm probs with the help of the germans hardcore gamers!.)

TRY PUTTING A RESTRICTION ON THAT!!

well in germany they just get the european version from somewhere close to them. Like for instance spain or something. Also game shops can retail the game, but they cant put it in the shelf you need to ask for it and they have them in the back. Im sure the germans will be fine in getting a copy. Im in the UK no restrictions here :D

# Not a problem!Guest 2006-10-19 06:15
Okay. First.

This is not at all a problem.

Your can buy the game at nearly EVERY Retailer here.

Stores Like "Media Markt" or "EBgames" have the in stock even without an extra order.

Just go into the shop. Say "One Gears of War" Please, and your good to go. One store here at my place had even a BIG Dead Rising poster hanging in the Stores.

I just talked to the owner and told him that THAT is absolutely illigal und he could be sued... but he seemd to not mind at all :-D :-D :-D

Not its not such of a big deal. I my self will get the Collectors edition. Its already pre-ordered.

So, happy Gaming!

Your typical German fellow...

PEACE

P.S. Sorry for my bad english ;-)
