Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console - Image 1Get ready for some bad news guys. We received an email earlier from tipster JoJaSc and it might interest some of you who are interested in the Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console.

According to the email, JoJaSc sent an email to the Xbox Customer Care Team explaining that he was interested in purchasing the Halo 3 Special Edition console and was concerned about transferring the stuff in his 20GB hard drive. JoJaSc further inquired whether the data migration kits used for Pro to Elite transfers will work for the Halo 3 edition console. The response from Microsoft's Customer Support went like this:

Hello JoJaSc,

Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support!

I deeply apologize for the inconvenience and as I understand, you would like to know if the Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console's Hard Drive could be used with the migration kit.

Note: Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console's Hard Drive memory capacity is 20GB. You can only use the Migration kit when transferring files from 20 GB to 120 GB.

We do know from previous reports that it is not possible to transfer files from a 20GB to another 20GB, which in itself is already a bummer. That would be a pretty tough decision: keep your console and use the Halo 3 edition console when whim strikes or forget all your movies, Live games, and TV shows, among other things?
Does this mean that the Halo fans who purchase the Special Edition console will have to settle for two consoles?

The customer service person really didn't specify why the Migration kit can't work for data transfers other than 20GB to 120GB and it's really curious why not. We'll try and dig up more info on this so try to keep up.

Again, thanks to
JoJaSc!

umn... In case nobody knew, it's possible to take your hard drive out of it's container, than put it in the Halo 3 one, this would let you be able to keep everything, but use use the Halo 3 360's hard drive shell...

» well

The real problem is, you won't be able to use your Arcade games, TV shows, or Movies.

It's all filled with DRM to work on only one 360.

You would have to take the mother board out and move it to the different shell for all your stuffs to work.

Unless you don't have Live, you don't have a problem. Yes, you could use that little trick and swap the actual HDD and put it in the new shell.

» just download again

just download all the content from your arcade games and other downloaded content that you have already purchased on your other console. it doesn't cost anything to download a second time and then the only thing you lose is your saved games. Oh and to avoid having to download your gamer tag everytime you switch consoles just get a memory card

This article sounds like it was written for people who already own an Xbox 360 and want the Halo 3 edition, when I can guarantee you that a lot of people are going to buy the 360 JUST for Halo 3 (kinda weird :/ ) but whatever...

Is there even a way of taking the HDD shell off it and transferring the harddrive? I am also pretty sure that if you were to give microsoft your story, they would give you 800 Microsoft points to transfer your account over.

yeah > i did this recently > swapped the casing of my 20GB with 120GB [coz it was scratched on the chrome] > works 100% ; ) u just need a T6 screwdriver/bit [ebay £1.50]

» Uhh...not a problem really.

Why swap the cases ? The case effects nothing, just switch HDD's....

Also, if you sign in with your gamertag and can connect to live, then it doesn't matter which 360 your HDD is connected too, you can still use your games and such. (I know because i've connected my HDD to my buddies 360 so we could play double dragon at his place)

Main thing would be the save games I think...which would also work fine...

It only ties itself to the actual 360 for playing offline, when XBL cannot verify that your gamertag purchased those games...then you'd have some problems....but you better have internet if you are buying an extra 360 just because it's a halo edition...

» solution

buy the Datel Xport transfer kit.

It works with memory cards and hard drives and you can use it as many times as you like with no restrictions using a PC.
