New Xbox 360 model to sport an additional cooling unit?

Rumors have it that Microsoft is planning to come up with another model for the Xbox 360. We know it sounds quite amusing especially at this stage when the Elite was just recently released. However, French online site Logic-Sunrise managed to grab some snapshots of the said "new" model.

Every Xbox 360 user knows well that the console has had problems with overheating, sometimes resulting to the dreaded Rings of Death. Allegedly, the new model sports hardware that addresses just that. Basically, the hardware configuration is the same as the regular 360 consoles in the market today except for a newly installed cooling component.

If this turns out to be true, then it's a welcome addition to the system. While Microsoft isn't confirming or denying anything yet, there are certain questions that come to mind right now. Will there be additional cost for this? And what happens now to the much-rumored price cut?

We will update you as soon as we get more info on this.

Only confirmed for repaired 360 at the moment. Hopefully it will make it's way onto the production line, I'm sure it will.

» releaseing another 360

is really not a smart move...just make a good add on...i mean thats what most 360 owners want right? they dont want to be forced into buying something for hdmi or built in cooling right? anyway i will let you think about that

» Excellent

While I never thought XBOX 360 hardware failure was nearly as big a problem as the internet would have you believe, it is something that needs to be improved. It looks like it's finally happening. My 360 I bought March last year is still going strong, but I think this would be a good excuse to upgrade to an elite and I can finally use my TV's HDMI port. Wow MS was even nice enough to include the HDMI cable unlike sony.

» 3rd party mod?

This just looks like a third party mod to me, MS would not release this as a new model just because it has an extra little heatsink.

» i was thinking the same

when i sent my 360 for the red ring repair.. i was thinking a much better heatsink shouldve been used to prevent any heat problems...especially when i saw the ps3 cooling system.. i was thinking microsoft was just being cheap..

» Hooray!!!

You get to buy the same system twice AND you're happy there's a ten dollar hdmi cable inside?

Boy, you're a smart shopper!! I bow down to your smart shoppingness!

» F dat

i am going on my 3rd 360 in less than a year, its a issue, and i work at a game store, these things come in broken all the time

» Got your panties in a bunch?

You're still playing the same 2 games while being a promo tool for blu ray. Let's see the new PS3 game releases for June: Go Puzzle and Fantastic 4. Wow! What great games! Yep, keep those AAA releases coming!

Right now I'm playing Forza 2, the best driving simulation game I've ever played. It blows away Gran Turismo in every way. Incredible customization, advanced damage modeling, realistic AI, features a GT game could only dream of.

Only a dumbass fanboy like yourself would think I'm getting screwed.

With your $600 system sony couldn't even give you a HDMI cable, or even any high definition cable at all?

I'm not buying the same system, and there is nothing wrong with the old one. It's an upgrade. Hell, I might keep the old one for my parents' house. It sure beats buying a useless PS3 and having the worthless 2 game PS3 collection to add to my library!

» No you're doing it all wrong!

If you want to make up some BS fanboy lie, you have to say you're on your 5th or 6th console and they break the same day. You should also make up the name of some game store you supposedly work at to make the lie more convincing. In time, maybe somebody might believe your BS.

» dumb article.....

The 360s weren't dieing because of overheating problems. Just bad manufacturing of the ram chips....they didn't get baked long enough on the assembly line.

» Retard

You are such a *****ing retard. I have had my PS3 3 months now. How many *****ing games were out for the 360 after 3 months that were must buys? For some people it would have been Oblivion for others Ghost Recon but that was after 3 months. Then Gears I guess. I hope to God you are from America or something because I will kill myself if you are from Ireland.

» me? retarded?

PS3 launch, Nov 17 2006. Today's date: June 14th 2007. That's 7 months there buddy. While the European launch was later, the games are still the same and just had to be localized.

To date, the best selling PS3 games are still Resistance, a mediocre FPS (well compared to XBOX shooters) and Motorstorm, a rushed feature lacking game that pales in comparison gameplay wise to most PS2 off road racing games. All the other games are half assed XBOX 360 hand me downs that are released 6 months to 1 year later.

The XBOX 360 had Ghost Recon and Oblivion only 4 months after launch, both very good games. Even the 360's launch games were pretty good, I would consider them better than nearly all of the PS3's launch games released a full year later.

» 65nm?

Why don't they just start using the 65nm process on the CPU and GPU? It would cool things down a whole lot.

I thought they were dying because the chips were becoming detached from the board?

» got caught

MCS just got caught for being a stupid spender when he always criticizes sony for their $500-$600 price tag. This foo would buy another 360 but runs his mouth about $600 for a ps3? oh yeh....the 360 comes with the HDMI...stfu...upgrade my ass.

now all he uses is the games excuse. cuz that all he has left since MS took away his other ones.

this article had nothing to do with sony....but ur ass had to include HDMI that sony doesnt give....hahahha. how many different 360s do they have to make to get things right? heres the 360. heres the 360 with a better dvd drive. heres a 360 with hdmi. heres a 360 with better cooling. the hardware failure is a bigger problem than you think. i bet people like you wouldnt even come clean with the prblems they have with theirs.

"notice all the "evil" corporations support bluray" ur a dumbass.

» MCS is doing is all wrong

to be a BS fanboy....you gotta say that you bought a launch 360 and it still works.

by Quixand - 2007-06-14 09:18
» SNY is doing is all wrong

No to be a real BS fanboy you got to pretend that the PS3 is not already a dead system that just isnt selling..

by steve - 2007-06-14 15:53
» wow.

» PS3 VS 360 FACTS

Wow lets argue over sony and microsoft. Sony dosent care about games when they just wana market there gay ass blue ray player. they even had to steal part of the wii controler once reveled and name it there xaxis contorller how f**king orginal.

here are the facts fan boy or not

Graphics: The XBOX 360 is a clear winner. The GPU is more powerful. It has more powerful fillrate, and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower. Part of the reason is their choice of memory, and architecture of pixel and vertex procesing.

Game Selection: The XBOX 360 has a huge head start here. 1 year is an eternity in gaming. Almost all multi-platform developers have made the XBOX 360 their primary platform due to timing of release-to-market, this means the games will look and perform better on the 360. The PS3 versions will be ports of the 360 versions.

And here it is the ps3 killer ....... Live: Microsoft’s online support with XBOX1 was phenomenal. They built in-house experience, user base, facilities, $$ commitment from executive level (since it proved successful), and most importantly, feedback from 100,000s of XBOX Live subscribers. Playstation 2’s online support sucked. They are now playing catch-up, trying to emulate Xbox’s model. But they had their hands tied just trying to make the PS3 work, it was incredibly ambitious (blu-ray etc.). I haven’t seen it yet, but I seriously doubt the quality will be anywhere to the level of XBOX 360.

Oh and you belovid blue ray once you ps3 dvd drive burns out like the ps2s did so often u have to go buy a new system. 360, wow toss out your hd dvd drive and buy a new one for 199$

Sony lost this round , 360 and a wii for the price of a 3 hummm sony sohuld go make hand helds oh wait they suck at that 2.
