New King Kong Shader exploit for XeLL and Gentoo Linux LiveCD for the 360 |
Ó
In the short time between the first usable exploit for Xbox 360 consoles
and today, we've already seen a lot of great achievements by people
like tmbinc, Cpasjuste, and others. A few hours ago, a new shader
exploit using the King Kong game was announced which will allow people
to load XeLL and subsequently, any Linux distro without needing a
serial connection with a PC.This patch will modify the King Kong ISO to include a modified shader which will trigger the exploit. Once triggered, the exploit code will automatically eject the King Kong DVD. Just insert Cpasjuste's modified version of the Gentoo minimal LiveCD. Wait for a few seconds and it should boot right into a minimal Gentoo environment. While its only command line mode for now, you should expect a user-friendly distro like Ubuntu to be released after the necessary patches are applied.
In short, these are the things you will need:
- An Xbox 360 with an older kernel (4532 or 4548). Anything above that will not be affected by the exploit.
- A hacked DVDROM drive in the Xbox 360 so that burnt discs can be run.
- An ISO of the game King Kong (dumped by yourself hopefully, we don't encourage the use of warez)
- An ISO of the Gentoo minimal LiveCD (gentoo-xenon-minimal-2006.1.iso)
- The patcher to patch the King Kong ISO.
Anyways, here's the links for the relevant stuff. If something is considered illegal, it won't be hosted on our servers. Same goes with stuff which is in the grey area concerning its legality. As for the Gentoo ISO, we feel that we should link directly to sourceforge since the ISO will be updated quite frequently.

Now just to head out to walmart and try to find an unptched 360.......
yea i geuss u think its easy dont you to run the linux? u have to patch your firmware get a iso of king kong then solder a serial port to your xbox. hm i think i feel like just putting in a disk and running a installer(ps3 ydl,gentoo,fc5, ubuntu)
Did you read article or even visit xbox-scene before you started running your mouth? No serial needed! 360 linux is a bit better. More memory, and no hypervisor!
maybe u havent seen ps3news.coms forums eh noob? there starting to get past it and ps3 the same ammount of memory as xbox so stfu
are you dumb? PS3 has less memory, and you can't even use RSX for gods sake!
The PS3 has the same amount of ram, but it's split... So only 256mb of ram is available for the console. The other 256 is dedicated ONLY to the GPU on the PS3, which is useless right now for linux. The 360 allows most of the 512mb to be allocated for linux.
WTF, stfu, eh? How I get mame on my atari?
So you are willing to have to dump your system every time you want to use this crap linux distro? But sony included an installer?? Shut the hell up. Play GAMES on your xbox. Remember, that's all it's kinda good for.
I can't wait to see how this goes. I have been waiting and waiting for someone to released drivers / unlock for the RSX in the PS3 but that is coming along slowly. Makes amateur development the pits if you can't use the hardware in whatever way you want.
Anyway - I will definatly be looking into how this will work for the 60.... Perhaps it will be able to run some C++ software, etc. The only bad thing is that it doesn't have a dual boot function - which is greatly needed. Why do I feel like custom firmware for the 60 would be a great thing to look into? Did wonders for the PSP/
If the 360 is kinda good for playing games then that must mean the ps3 is crap
Of course, I keep forgetting that the 360 actually has some decent games.
Sony included an installer because they felt like their customers had to be able to do SOMETHING with their console.
i would never do anything to my 360 even if there were ways to get more sfuff on it.
also if the 360 gets hacked properly then that would give them a way to play downloaded games without chipping the xbox and that would decrease sale's like psp. the games would go downhill and developers would stop making the best and most exciting games fo it. ight now the xbox 360 is making a hell of a lot of money with their games and i would like to keep it going like that. but still people would go around and hack their 360 just to save some money on games.
