MS Thinks 1080p not practicable |

Kikizo had a video interview with Scott Henson, the director of the game technology group from Microsoft about 1080p, Blu-ray and expansions. It seems Scott thinks that 1080p would not work on any gaming consoles very soon, because it is simply "impossible":I think 1080p, just to address that directly, will be basically impossible. I think if you talk to any developer they will tell you that they will not have a performing game at 1080p.
Scott also commented on the HD DVD strategy of MS and the future upgrade of the Xbox 360 dashboard. He said that HD DVD drive will be an "accessory" for the Xbox 360, whereas an add-on for Blu-ray is "technically possible" but the company has no plan for that yet. Future upgrades of the dashboard will continue to improve the current no-so-satisfactory functions such as the music player.

The PS3 has the Cell, which is capable of rendering, aswell as the GPU...hardly impossible to output 1080p with high fps.
Though, u never know... can only wait till november and see.

ATI said the xbox 360's GPU was more than capable of doing 1080p, but MS didnt want to because it would cost too much, and would just be a waste of money since barely anyone has a 1080p tv. btw the cell is not all that impressive, especially since the ps3's cell is less powerful than a normal cell processor.

but if blu ray discs are in 1080p then why not show them in that if you have the other equipment? if you get a hddvd and have a xbox360 and the disc is capable of 1080p then you're missing out very marginally... there are tech-whores out there who won't settle for the best, and then there are others for whom the debate is moot.

it will be kinda like how 720P and 1080i were last gen, once in a blue moon you'll see a game support it. I'd be shocked if more then 20 games supported 1080P in PS3's life cycle, and I bet most of them will be the graphically simple games, like that RPG thingie that is coming out.
And Also it would be great if you could change the downloading methods on XBL to allow you to like watch movies or what have you while downloading stuff.

***** sony and ms they arplaying your agaisnt each other so well neither console will release and decent hid def games for at least another 2 years you can look at the tech specs all you want they are both the same crap and its gona take a while for developers to grab the technology by the balls. you just need to look at original xbox and ps2 games compared to now.. imagine that transition with 360 that amount of people using 1080p is going to be so minimal that it wont be worthwhile to make any games at that res if it costs them too much
its just another dam gimmick from sony

1600x1200 with 60fps is the best gaming expierence you could ask for. Some games can go even higher and its definitly noticable when u go higher then 1600x1200.
1600x1200 is pretty much close to 1080(1920x1080)
1600x1200=1920000 pixels
1920x1080=2073600 pixels
1024x768 is pretty much close to 720(1280x720)
1024x768=786432 pixels
1280x720=921600 pixels
Can the human eye see the difference between 1024x768 and 1600x1200? Yes, there is a HUGE difference in quality, sharpness and overall look. Play Call of duty 2 on a PC and turn it down to 1024x768 and thats what the Xbox360 version looks like, the xbox360 version looks slightly better when comparing the math, but you wont be able to tell with your eyes when your playing the game. You can turn all the enhancements like AA and AF to the max and you wont get near the quality if you just raise the resolution to 1600x1200 with no AA and AF.
So my point is that its a huge difference in quality, Anyone who says that you wont see the difference between 720 and 1080 has never seen the difference with their own eyes. The only factor is what developers choose to support. If they make the game look great on 720, will it look better on 1080? Yes it will, even upscaling the resolution will make a game noticably better. take the Xbox games that are supported by thexbox360, all they do is upscale the resolution and turn on higher level effects and is it any different? yes it is.
Does the hardware in existant now have the ability to output 1080 graphics? Yes in fact they do. The 7800 which is a clone of the RSX can easily output 1600x1200 at beyond 60FPS and thats even with CPU bottlenecks that the Cell processor is suppose to overcome.
Is 1080 a gimmik? No, if it was then why do we see a new generation of video cards with every generation of PC games. PC gamers know that at 1600x1200 its a good balance between graphic quality and performance. The only limiting factor beyond 1600x1200 is the video ram and even now they are pushing it to 512mb.
People who have 1080p compatable TVs and if games do really support 1080p, then they will be the ones who will be able to say in fact that there is a difference. I know there is a difference when just comparing the PC equvilents of the HD resolutions. I dont own a Widescreen monitor but if theres a difference on a standard 4:3 mintor, there will definitly be a difference on a 16:9 monitor. I challenge anyone to prove that there will be no graphical difference between 720 and 1080.
