A sad day for Microsoft Game Studios and Marvel Universe Online - Image 1

A few days ago, we mentioned that Microsoft hadn't put out official word yet on the cancellation of their Marvel Universe Online (Xbox 360, PC). Even then, Microsoft Game Studios project wasn't exactly painting a rosy picture, either. As a follow up to that, we have more details regarding the status of Microsoft Game Studios' Marvel Universe Online: Microsoft has decided to cancel the game.

Why, you may ask? There are a number of reasons: game performance issues, a combat system that still hasn't been finalized, bickering regarding the role of the actual Marvel heroes, and various other development headaches. Add that to the almost bitter irony that proposed keyboard attachment (for faster chatting via the Xbox Live) was "pretty much exclusively designed" for Marvel Universe Online, and you have one troubled project.

In any case, an official announcement will be made in a few weeks regarding the cancellation of Microsoft Game Studios' Marvel Universe Online "unless something drastic happens." In the meantime, it seems that the gamers will have to turn to City of Heroes to get their fix of superheroics.

"Microsoft has decided to cancel the game."

You say that statement and point to an article that doesn't say that at all as your source. The entire article talks of many problems and states there close to a cancel but NEVER goest that far!

Whats up with the misleading news?

It's like this: sometimes we have to draw information from several sources. Unfortunately, the SOP is to leave the link to the source from which we drew the most info. That's the one you see above.

In any case, we got our info regarding the cancellation of the game from a different source:

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option+com_content+task+view+id+7943+Itemid+2

As you can see, it was stated there that Microsoft has decided to cancel the game.

Also, note that we included the "unless something drastic happens" phrase. So in that sense, there's a very slim chance (unlikely, but still possible) that Marvel Universe Online might not be cancelled, but at the time of the article's writing, that was Microsoft's decision.

Hope we've clarified that matter for you. Admittedly, we aren't perfect, so we thank people like you who help keep us sharp by pointing things out to us. Thanks. :)

Thanks. :)

Yes, it is saddening, admittedly. It'd be nice to see a rival to CoH/CoV.

In any case, in case a miracle happens and Microsoft changes its mind and decides not to cancel it after all, we'll let you know. :)

Well, I guess there's that DC Comics MMO for the PS3. Unless that gets cancelled too.
