Moore Speaks Out Against Backward Compatibility |

Ó
Peter Moore, a Microsoft executive, voiced his strong opinions about backward compatibility in relation to the XBox 360. Moore seems to think that backward compatibility means nothing to players."Nobody is concerned with about backwards compatibility anymore." Moore said. "We underpromised and overdelivered on that. It's a very complicated thing... Very complex work. I'm just stunned that we have hundreds of games that are backwards compatible."
Original XBox games are played on the 360 through emulation, a process that has many limits and restrictions. This was a poor choice for the feature and greatly impaired the idea behind it.
"More [backward compatible games] are coming. At some point, you just go, 'That's enough, let's move on!'. People aren't worried about a game being backwards compatible - and I like to think we've upheld our end of the bargain in making at least two or maybe three hundred games backwards compatible" he further added.
It seems as if other executives follow Moore's lead, backward compatibility will be phased out shortly. Even though many games have already been ported, there are still a lot left. If Microsoft gave up on the feature, many fans would be disappointed.

When BC is successful like it is on the Playstation 2 it allows developers to continue developing games for the previous console without worrying about the platform being obselete.
Sucks to be M$... i don't care about BC but if it ain't 100% there's no point.

Just a note, even though the Gameboy Advance/SP are backwards compatible to the original Gameboy Games, I still own an original Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket and Gameboy Color.
And I also own an original PSX and PSOne though I own a PS2. So as you can all see, backwards compatibility means nothing to me.

You realize the PS3 is following the same model, right? They've already stated that unless developers followed strict guidlines (and many do not), Sony can't guarantee BC. Adding hardware compatibility, which seems to be what you prefer, would jack up the console's price even more.

Sony is following the same process as the 360 and emulating backwards compatible games.
There was only one thing that i hated about the 360 and thats because it didnt have a web browser,
But maybe that will come soon seeing as Nintendo Wii and the PS3 will be getting one...

they said they had hard tym emulating for 100% compatibility because they didn't follow the rules.

Backwards compatibility is great. When my PS1 died, my PS2 was the perfect choice for so many great titles which I borrowed from friends.
What I love about my PSP is that I can play SNES games. And now that it will have a PS1 emulator it becomes that much better.
PS3 is not having the same problems as the 360. They are trying to do the emulation thing like MS but they will have better time with it because the architecture. They did mention that they were having problems with some titles due to the developers not following the guidelines but they are working those kinks out. Unlike MS who see it as a waste of money, Sony loves Backwards compatibility.
Makes me wonder why I even bought this damn 360, oh yeah pirating. The only good thing MS products are for.

Excuse me but I remember a day when this Moore guy said that they will eventually get to 100% BC. That was there way to tell us to stop looking at sony's ps3 BC because we're eventually going to have the same. BUT NOW this is microsofts way of saying screw what we said, we want money. They are NOT holding their part of the deal. I still have many xbox games here, about 95%, that I love and can't play on my 360! They better continue working on this feature otherwise they'll give me another reason to add to the list of why the 360 sucks. Not that I can't already say that.
Wii and DS is the way to go people. Stop spending you money on graphics and buy games for the fun/pleasure aspect. Graphics can last you a couple of hours till you get use to it. A game which is fun can last you till death?

Oh, and #23, I'm pretty sure emulators that regular people made on their home PCs are a far cry from official backwards-compatible games.

The early adopter thing also stands very true for Sony, so wait a year before buying, or unless you begin to actually see (not hear about) stuff you would like to play.

But as MS are not Nintendo they are quite happy to continue bending us over the table and giving us a nasty push in the rear. And we all happily take it and continue funding Bill gates and his *****ware.
