Mom calls foul after kids saw nudes through XBL |
Ó
Since it's deeply rooted to the Internet, Microsoft's Xbox Live service on the Xbox 360 is prone to abusive material that can be passed around. One mother learned this fact the hard way when she found her two sons viewing nude pictures sent through XBL. Jennifer from Lansing, Michigan said she immediately took the Xbox 360 controllers and turned the console off after she realized that her children have become victims of an Internet crime. She dropped XBL's customer service line a call, but she was told that nothing can be done about it.
The Michigan State Police came into the picture with a detective from the Computer Crimes unit, Thomas Kish, saying the service should concern everyone. He explained that parents must be aware of Xbox Live's online capabilities which makes it as dangerous as home computers connected to the Internet.

the problem is... it was deliberately sent from another user.
unfortunately, nothing is safe from porn. when the PS3 home comes online, it won't be safe. the only way to "lock down" is to "big brother" everything. meaning all messages and images are screened through M$/$ony... then, people would cry foul about privacy.
I was thinking the same thing home will be 100X worst than xbl.Children love playstations and since it's free more children
will be using it.Also, u can share videos. Also, u can't even report ppl on psn too. I can't 2 have a good laugh when I see mothers on DR.Phil saying how evil and nasty home is lol.
She talks about turning the 360 off as if it were to make a collosal impact on their lives. :\
The detective also fails to make any mention of PSN, which you can do the same things on, and like Goobers said, their's also Home.
"she immediately took the Xbox 360 controllers and turned the console off after she realized that her children have become victims of an Internet crime."
victims my arse... the little perverts probably requested it.
"Mummy doesn't mind me blowing peoples guts out in COD4, GOW or Halo 3, but heaven forbid I should see some naked people!"
double standards suck.if she doesn't want her kids accessing that kind of material then she shouldn't let them play online.
Xbox Live is nowhere near as "dangerous" as a home PC. You can't browse the web. Apart from images sent from other users, you have a VERY limited availability of potential trouble spots.
There's two ways for her to fix this herself.
1) learn to use the freakin parental controls that Microsoft's employees spent who knows how many hours programming into the 360.
2) Pull the little cable out of the back of the system, and cancel your xbox live subscription.
I love the fact that she immediately called Microsoft to *****. When are people going to learn that Video Game systems aren't babysitters. Just because you bought your kids a nice xbox 360 doesn't mean you can forget how to parent them. To tell you the truth this probably wasn't the first time they have seen nude pics of people, and it definently won't be the last. (National Geographic Channel anyone?).
Once again american society has pissed me off. Why do people seem to think sex/nudity is worst than violence. You can kill someone by shooting them, its very difficult to kill someone by *****ing them, do me a favor parents and *****ing think. The point of regulating content for children is to keep them moral, but all we're teaching them is its better to kill someone, than view pictures of what a beautiful human body was meant to be in nature. Even if it was porn, do you realize your children can see that in their back yard with their dogs *****ing or whatever animal *****s. Not to mention that how did your children get into the world, not by killing, not by stabbing nazis, but by *****ING.
I rest my *****ing case.
Lets find out where they live and send them some hardcore magazines....
Crime my ass QJ. What the ***** is wrong with you? This is sensationalized reporting at it's very *****ing worse. Think before you write an article. This is the worst article I've ever read. She called the cops? She's a dumb *****. People need to get the ***** over their primitive sense of modesty.
Okay lets be fair now their only reporting news. When this happen(which im 100% sure it will)
on ps home parents will go crazy and say u can share porn on home. That'll be all over the news and possibly Dr.Phil.It would be qj job to report that it's heavily related to gaming. Also, recently since gaming became main stream it's gonna continue receiving a lot of flak.People love playing the blame game on new media.Rock music is the 50s,comic books and porn, and violent movies in the 80s and don't forget rap music in the 90s.Things like this been happening since the beginning of time.We can can even go back to the 30s when comic books had guns and ppl accused batman + robin for being gay. These things happen and it won't stop.
"And while Microsoft, the maker of X-Box, does give ways to deal with offensive players online, Jennifer says the damage to her children from this incident has already been done.
And she has banned her children from using X-Box Live to protect them from becoming prey to online predators."
Online predators? They sent the kids some porn they probably wanted. The dumb b*tch probably should ban movies, the internet, e-mail, and all other communication with the outside world.
