Molyneux: Xbox 360 isn't anywhere near its limits yet

xbox360_manufacturing_01Peter Molyneux is 360 Magazine's guest editor for issue 72. Here, he continues on with Microsoft's vocal campaign about the Xbox 360's longevity as a console, saying that it is "not anywhere near" its limits as a gaming platform.

Said Molyneux, "I think the next five years will be pretty interesting. The release of Kinect this holiday is going to change the type of people that play on the 360 and is going to change the sort of genres that are going to be played on the 360."

And although Kinect is facing some criticisms for a supposed lack of focus, both in content and audience, "You're just going to see some amazing core games, so the future of the 360, I think, is very bright, and continues to evolve as any platform does. It just doesn't feel like we've reached the limits of the 360 or anywhere near it."

i'd have to agree with him in so far as renewing interest in the console is concerned. but if we're talking about longevity, i think it's more of because none of the big three are showing any signs of interest of launching a next gen at this point in time.

lol no it isn't "anywhere near its limits yet" it's being pushed over the limits lol. sad with installed content and off disc there are points when games almost completely freeze up and points where animated sections almost crash durring camera change durring play. ok not saying this to start an argument with 360 obsessed people who think halo is still "da bomb" i'm talkin about the true gamer out there that has the wii,360 and ps3 and knows what gamesing is about. fun. i happen to have a newer 360 and every game i have purchased ha had the even problem of lag or points where the game almost crashes due to gameplay. star ocean, gears, yes halo, bioshock and yes mw2 points that just make me happy i have the other two systems but enjoy the gameplay and story even with the flaws. the bringing of the new attachment for motion control will just make things worse in my books. anyhoo there's what i have on my mind.

I've had my xbox for over 3 years now, yes the same one :o

And I've played all the games you've stated plus much more, and never had a problem with lag, or games freezing up or crashing.

Maybe I'm just a lucky one eh?

3 years that would mean you are using a opus mobo. i've had mine for almost 2 years exactly so a jepser mobo. difference voltage and cpu size. (and nand if you want to get more into technical terms) sure no problems as much but soon enough there will be 1 of 2 issues arising A. RROD (or software error code) or B. disc drive failure. my friend in afgan got his 360 (was a jesper mobo) played it for 6 months strait never installed any content into the hard drive disc failure after then the drive was clicking adn ticking only way he didn't get any issues with crashes or lag is when he ran off the component cables at 1080p (even then was never true full hd) had a few problems not many. i run full HDMI at 1080p and have such issues. as it seems then the video differences and how much the 360 pushes for video quality makes the system error pushing it's power to limits it is incapable of pushing. now i'm not a hardcore 360 fan in fact my likings is the ps3 is i ever want video quality 360 for some games i happen to enjoy or if i like to be cheap. and the wii because well it's still to this day has the up most fun interactive games ever made. and compared to the ps3's move (retailing at about $180 this is rounding off with the cost of the camera the move controller and the extra attachment) and the kinects camera for the 360 the wii only needs a $20 attachment and you have more functionality and not to add any camera will work with it's internal universal driver. (and ios58 for usb 2.0) but on topic no matter how you look at it the xbox is actually the most least advanced game console and it's upgrades are very small. still using a power pc. still a dvd drive. and still using a sata or pata hard drive for storage. (the ps3 is capable of solid state memory drives same with the wii btw look up the def of solid state you will see memory cards like MSPD and sSD/SDHC are in it's definition)

with all that "good shit" thats in that ps3, you dont get to use hardly any of it, unless sony decide for you to
so dont act like you paid for all those cool features and you get to use them, because you dont

heh i have a ps plus, dlc, free online play on it, games running TRUE 1080p. blue-re, and on pre-order the only true game useing the full potential of physics gfx, and extra. Crisis 2. the ps3 could run at 1/8 it's power and the xbox still wouldn't be able to keep up with it. look the 360 is a computer. thats why the games are so easy to make for it. and send out. the quality and resolution is still lower than the ps3 so even then more focus on getting the game rollin oh and the glitches that arise with the 360 version. piracy issues, and the 500+ people banned per-month that have not only threatens to switch services but have done so. the 360 evil little disc replacement plan where as the ps3's blu-re tech (reason why i say that is b/c no one ever bothers researching anything besides gamerscore) where as the disc's you would need to literally forcefully scratch the disc. hmm oh and another thing apart of using the full power of the ps3 the 256 multi-player onslaught of MAG. AND 3d TV capable. yeah i can see where the ps3 isn't even reaching it's full power where as the 360 is still apart of greedy M$ and milking money from it's players. oh lets not forget to mention the older revision ps3's has FULL ps2 support meaning ALL GAMES PLAY same with the newer ps3 still has FULL support for the ps1 games where as... whats this the 360 still is incapable of running conkers bad furday in wide screen and oh whats this is incapable of running ALL older xbox games only a small fraction of them. yeah i see how the ps3 is really lacking even though all the feats are still more stable and running better than that of the the 360's lack of compatibility and unstable hardware and software. heck even the wii has full backwards compatibility with the GC games, and plays them in better quality than the actual GC.

then why is it the Xbox 360 is failing to get quality games which are over 9GB eh? Developers are finding it hard to put a single game on one disc!

For christs sake and M$ payed this guy to say the 360 isn't maxed out yet! LOL. Final Fantasy XIII had to be put on 3 discs for the xbox 360 for God's sake! And it was 18GB on 3 discs on the xbox 360 while the PS3 version was around 36GB on a single blu - ray disc! Just shows how last gen the 360 is! Even with Final Fantasy XIII being on 3 discs on the Xbox 360 it was shit compared to the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII. The PS3 version had better graphics (better shading, shadowing, higher resolution), better loading times which did NOT require an install, uncompressed sound and video therefore the sound and video quality was way better and most importantly the game ran at REAL 720p on the PS3 while the 360 version ran at 576p upscaled to 720p (fake 720p on xbox 360) so the game looked blurry compared to the PS3 version! And the games CG cutscenes ran at 1080p on PS3 while it ran on 576p on 360. Also some parts of the xbox 360 version of the game was cut so that it would fit into 3 discs! Now that just shows how the Xbox 360 is way over it's limit!

Whats more is that the M$ stole this game and then they made an ad promoting the game and acting as if they owned the game and most importantly M$ atually used PS3 footage and then they were later sued! Sony should have advertised Final Fantasy XIII because the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII was SUPERIOR in comparison to the xbox 360 version. Hell M$ fanboys wont see better graphics than gear of war 2! Of course this guy is wrong the 360 is way over its limits! Oh and xbox fanboys i know a lot of multiplatform games are better on the xbox 360 but I used Final Fantasy XIII because that is SUPERIOR on the PS3 and it was INFERIOR on the xbox 360 because the xbox 360 uses last gen 9GB DVD9 discs while PS3 uses 50GB blu - ray discs! PS3 FTW! :P

did ya ever think that square en. just wanted to make MORE $ so they went multi-console?
MS cant "steal" anything
and unless you have a 360 anbd a ps3 and FF for both and have em side by side
you have no idea what you are talking about
your just on the fan-boy band-wagon talkin sh!t smelling like pee

actually it's true you look at the tech specs of both games aswell as talk to any square developer they will tell you the same thing about the game resolution. and something to keep in mind when microsoft asks for a game to be developed for their console they pays less for more features and sony pays more for less features and still gets more for it's worth.
