Microsoft's Xbox 360 Changes Disk Drives |
Ó
The acquisition of BenQ's optical disk drives (ODD) portfolio led Lite-On IT to land crucial loader orders for MS' Xbox 360 gaming console with the shipments slated to start in the third quarter, as said by the company itself. The company inherited the loader orders from the Taiwan-based BenQ and recently gained the needed validation from Microsoft.BenQ allegedly grabbed the loader deals in January because of its joint effort with Philips, which was dubbed as the Philips BenQ Digital Storage (PBDS). And to continue our short trip about the Xbox's loader history, before PBDS, Hitachi LG Data Storage was the sole OEM maker of DVD-ROM drive modules for the 360 console.
So it looks like the Xbox 360 is getting a DVD-ROM makeover. Whether this new development will strengthen the performance of the MS gaming console is something that we will know in the near future. But, as always, we will keep you posted for new developments.
