Microsoft's stealth attack is US$ 100 off on 'like-360 Elite' on Amazon?

Xbox 360 Elite - Image 1Well, Microsoft did say that they're not at all worried with the then-upcoming Sony GamesCom announcement. Whether it be a PS3 Slim or a price cut reveal, they're ready for it. Cos they've got a plan. Their conference obviously did not have as much fanfare as Sony's - no, sir, not by a loooooooooong mile - and it looks like their plan is nowhere to be found. Or is it?

Checking Amazon, you'll find that there is something sneaky that MS did with their prices. While the Pro SKU and Elite are retaining their US$ 299 and US$ 399 tags respectively, if you check out the Xbox 360 Arcade and the 120GB HDD, you'll find that it's now at a lower price range.

The Xbox 360 Arcade is now at US$ 179.96, while the120GB HDD is now only US$ 119.92. So what does this mean? It means, that if you want to get a not-Elite-Elite model, you just combine the two, and you only need to shell out US$ 299.93. That's practically like a hundred dollars off from the actual Elite!  Just as it was rumored to happen last week.

Somehow that's just still nowhere near as exciting as the PS3 Slim and price cut announcement.

Anyway, you might wanna check it out, so head on to Amazon now.

Yea, bet Microsoft was saving this till after the GameCon, cause they were only gonna use it if they absolutely had to. God forbid the $50 billion dollar corporation give its customers a price cut on that door stop.

Too late...

With so many more features and less failure rates, better graphics and bigger games, you can't pass up on a PS3 now.
by Esaar - 2009-08-19 21:54:10
even so

If absolutely nothing else then still statistically they are going to take a blow. Everyone who wanted an Xbox pretty much has one by now. With the new lower PS3 price tag a lot of thoese people are going to buy PS3s.

sweet

i was thinking about picking up a spare 360... $180 with free shipping is a pretty good deal. this is actually better for me than an elite price cut. and for the love of god, please don't even reply to felis...

no more excuses

ps3 is the way to go, there really isn't an excuse anymore. the only thing that worries me is that ps3 will get infested with lil kids just like 360 did with their price drop. i cant stand lil kids who wont shut up on cod4

PS3 doesn't really have better graphics. Because Blu-ray has a huge disc space Sony devs just have more room for better details. Anyways M$ isn't in a bad spot yet to make them desperate. But this is a good start for MS. Finally they release a full system for cheap price. Still no Wi-Fi though.

PS3 has no games. (let's see if he'll fall for it)

If you really believe PS3 has no games I need not say more to you, you are too stupid to bother with.

omfg...

just realized qj tagged this as sony related, i can only guess it's for the mention of the conference... really felis isn't enough you had to invite the entire sony fan club? i'll have to check that from now on and not even bother with these.

hopefully

COD4:MW2 will have mute option in lobbies also.

Almost-Elite indeed.

The Arcade isn't backwards compatible like the elite.

BC

The arcade model itself is the exact same as every other 360, so you can play original X-Box games on it, you just need to purchase a hard drive to do it. Sucks you have to pay extra, but at least you have the option, unlike all the PS3's that have been released recently. On a similar note, I really think Sony could do better with the PS3 if they stopped production on the PS2 and brought back BC. Especially with this new price cut, I think that would really bring their sales up.

Hmmm

I didn't realize that the reason it couldn't play Xbox games was the lack of hdd. When I bought my Resident Evil Elite, I was looking at the arcade box and it was lacking a check for backwards compatibility.

I didn't know that either until I read your post and did some research... Here is what I found, straight from the horses' mouth: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/kb.aspx?id+908226+lcid+1033+category+gamesandmedia

The Rockness is

actually right. Searching Google I have found threads where people with an Arcade edition with HDD complain they can't play their games
by phiyuku - 2009-08-20 16:04:21
nvm

I read to the end of that thread and apparently its because it is using Hong Kong HDD?

Yeah, the first 360 I had was an arcade, but I immediately bought a hard drive, and I had no issues playing original X-Box games.

Thats Nice

But with both consoles having practically the same games and the PS3 having the stronger library exclusive vs exclusive there really isn't much reason to buy a 360 other than friend preference. Unless you have the money for both systems of course, go for it.
by fearlubu - 2009-08-20 22:24:52
LoL

he did fall for it!
by Master Chef - 2009-08-21 01:19:40
No other reason?

Exclusives vs exclusives is exactly why there is still a big reason to chose one console over the other. Not everyone likes Gran Turismo and God of War. I know a bunch of people who only play Halo 3 or Gears. I think it'd be a waste to buy a 360 just for Halo 3, which isn't even that amazing and I always tell my friends they're dumb for doing so, but if that's all you wanna play there really isn't much of a reason to even consider a PS3.
