A word war always erupts whenever new consoles are going to be released. This week, even more shots were fired in the next-gen console battle by UK head of Xbox marketing Stephen McGill. In an interview with British trade magazine MCV, McGill stated that they will have "an installed base of around ten million plus before they [Sony and Nintendo] launch." McGill went on to claim that "weÂ’re the only place for the breadth and depth of choice for games and it dispelled a lot of the myths around PS3."
McGill stressed that the 360’s games portfolio and marketing push will be key. "We’ve got so much to talk about: 160 high definition games on 360. A ten million plus installed base head start. Games for everyone including Gears of War, Pro Evolution Soccer, Viva Piñata, Xbox Live Arcade, Forza 2, Rainbow Six and Dead or Alive Extreme 2, to name but a few. Then there’s the promise of being the only place to get Halo 3."
And all this has given Microsoft even greater confidence that it will clean up over the pivotal festive season, according to McGill: "Nowhere else have consumers got a better choice of great gaming and entertainment today, tomorrow and long into the future. IÂ’m very confident this is going to be another Xbox Xmas."
Fighting words, surely. But then again, we never expected otherwise from the head of Xbox marketing. It's his job. Both Sony and Nintendo also have their own spin doctors working on making sure that their respective consoles end up on top of the next-gen heap. The only way to know what will happen is to wait until all three next-gen consoles are out in the market. That's when the war will really begin.

yea this guy has been fair. xbox360 is well established and is strong in the market...mostly die to the fact ts has not competitors on the market.
MS have just announced passing the 5million mark a few weeks back, they really think they can get another 5 million out in 4 months? maybe, we'll just have to wait.
initial PS3 sales will be crazy. the first batch of 2 million consoles will go in maybe 2 weeks, maybe even the 1st week...then the next batch of 2 mil by december will vanish. PS3 hardware sales will definetly overpower that of the 360

i personally think in the long run, playstation will come out with the most hardware sales, and i really think it'll be top in popularity, just like the PS2. but it'll be a tough race
sony will not have that many console ready for launch. I will be getting one no matter what but considering devs havnt even got the final debug kits it seems unlikely they wilkl be able to keep up with demand. Plus MS has arounf 50 games that will be launched this fall so I belie ms will sell the most this Xmas. We will see.
There are about10,000 dev kits out for PS3. Ken Kutaragi said the hardes thing about getting the PS3 ready was finding HDDs and electrical components. Sony will have 2million consles by launch. I just think they will pull that shortage crap like they did with PS2 just to drive up demand.
There really aren't that many games announced for the PS3, compared to the Xbox 360.
It'd be smart for Microsoft to buy Bethesda. Oblivion is by far the best Xbox 360 game out right now. If this gets released for the PS3, Microsoft loses a cookie.

Sony only launched with a million PSP's in NA, so it probably won't be much more with the PS3.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind was only released on xbox, and didnt come out on PS2, and the fact most ps3 version of games have to be re-created and development of this started in 2002, so I'd doubt PS3 will ever see this game, despite all the rumours.

I work in the semicon industry, and I know they are having serious trouble getting all thier components.
Might be an idea to hold off until production gets up to full flow. Then you'll know you have good quality.

1. GT 4 won't be out till like 2008, by that time damn Forze 3 will be coming out lol.
2. Killswitch was a horrible POS game, plus even Cliffy B said showing off gears was one of his proudest moments, and cliffy B is a top game dev (whether you want to admit htat or not is your choice).
3. Saint's Row is exclusive.
4. Rainbow Six I won't comment on, but they haven't gone bad yet, so I trust they will stay good.
5. Xbox 360 is the only Next gen system of the two that's going to have downloadable content, until Sony says something 360 is the better version.
