Microsoft warns of Kinect shortage |

In just a couple of weeks, Microsoft will be launching its motion technology controller, Kinect. Now if you want to be sure you're gonna pick one up for yourself, you better place those pre-orders now cos from the looks of it, there will be more demand than they can actually supply.
This is the warning of Microsoft as they near the launch of Kinect on November 4th for the US and November 10th for Europe. In the past week alone, Amazon UK already had to close the Kinect pre-order page because there was just too much demand for it already.
While the threat of shortage has been known to be employed by gaming companies so they can get consumers to jump on the pre-order station, the numbers do show that people really are hotly anticipating Kinect.
Have you placed yours?

The reason for this was rather than invest tons of money in multiple factories to quickly deliver enough product to satisfy demand, they invested less money in fewer factories which results in less units being made and thus supply was not able to keep up with demand.
Simply put, this is a smart strategy on two fronts: one being that they didn't have to pay out fixed expenses to sell the same amount of product and two being that it contributed to the hype and sold more units than would have if the supply had not been so short. Now, whether they intended to produce the hype by saving money, who knows. All I know is, it sure worked for them :)

I meant to say, "as much in fixed expenses"
