Microsoft to freeze XBL accounts of early Halo 3 players

Halo 3 - Image 1Ever managed to get a copy of Bungie's Halo 3 before its street date? Better think again before playing the game, if you don't want to suffer the same fate of getting banhammered all the way till year 9999 like these two unfortunate blokes.

Not even logging out of the internet before playing Halo 3 can let your cover your tracks either, if you're really bent on playing the game before its release date. A Microsoft representative said that consoles will also contain information about each and every games played by the console owner, along with timestamps. If they found out that there's a record of your console running Halo 3 before its launch, BAM! Banhammered.

However, since Microsoft can only detect your console's game information upon connecting to Xbox Live, there's a possibility that you can still play Halo 3 before its September 25 street date and not compromise your account. There's just one condition: never access Xbox Live, ever again.

» incorrect

microsoft has been contact by countless people already, and they say there will be no banning for retail discs.

Ha ha, all those people showing off pre-release copies are getting screwed.

Serves them right.

» Create a new gamer tag

So just create a new gamer tag to play this and don't go on live with this gt. You will not carry the achievements though...

» Your dumb

by aikman2getu - 2007-09-19 06:18
» hard drive

» RE: Sam 91 424

They aren't banning xbox's, or IP's. They are banning accounts. And by the way, if you're going out of your way to insult someone by calling them stupid, at least use the correct form of your/you're.

Besides, it's easy enough to create a new account, so why wouldn't you do that?

I guess technically they aren't banning anything, as Slipstream0 said...but you get the point.

» Interesting...

...but we just don't have the guts to try it out. We don't like to take chances on our XBLA accounts :)

» hmm

Is this M$ rep they speak of JK Rowling for **** sake? That's ridiculous IF it's true but I don't believe I sign any agreement when I buy games. Think they can tag the retailer but don't hate the player.

Have a Halo 3 Party... at your friends house.

by Surftycoon - 2007-09-19 07:53
» Here's an Idea

if you really wanna play that badly, disconnect your 360 from the internet, and set the date ahead past launch date. Then don't sign on to xbox live until after launch. This way any time stamps look legit.

It's not true, they can't ban you for playing a retail disk as long as you obtained it legally. The guys that got banned were banned because they were playing an Alpha version of the game that was stolen form a Bungie employee

by GW2 - 2007-09-19 07:59
» and on top of that

they would ban XBL acounts not XBLA accounts.

XBLA is xbox live arcade morons.

by FABLE - 2007-09-19 08:11
» XBLA

XBLA=Xbox Live Arcade. Cmon. get it together guys

by extra2000 - 2007-09-19 10:20
» @lmxloco

exactly my point. It's account that's getting banned not consoles. But either way, no bans will be placed. that's good for early players.

» Except...

Changing the date doesn't necessarily actually change the hardware clock.

» you call yourself journalists?

Sally B. and the rest of the QJ crew:

a 12 month XBox Live prepaid card is less than USD; a 3-month prepaid card is even less. Create a new gamertag, sign it on to XBox Live with the lowest prepaid card you can buy, and find the hell out if there's a ban. That's what people call journalism. Repeating unsubstantiated rumors that later prove to be totally false isn't journalism. It's stupid, and really makes people wonder if you can ever be trusted to say the truth when it matters.

Word of advise don't go after Sally B or the QJ crew, they are cool people, if you don't like the articles here leave never come back again.
