Halo 3 expected to boost Microsoft's sales upon its release - Image 1Tagged by Microsoft as "the most highly anticipated game of all time and biggest entertainment event in history," nobody can deny the popularity of one of its best known series for the Xbox 360, Halo.

With the upcoming sequel scheduled to hit stores in a day or so, Microsoft is hoping to boost its profits with the game's release. Analysts at Microsoft have predicted that they will finally be making a profit this fiscal year.

Prior to this, the company has been suffering from more than US$ 5 billion in losses since the Xbox's launch in 2001.  The Xbox 360 exclusive title, Halo 3, will hopefully become a major proponent to this rise in sales for the company.

Edward Woo, a video games analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities, comments on the soon-to-be released title, "Halo is in a class by itself. This is going to be Microsoft's best shot, but I don't think anyone thinks this is a magic bullet that takes all the air out of the Wii".

With sales of less than US$ 5 million, they still have a lot of catching up to do against its other competitors.

What?

Microsoft have lost 5 billion the article says. If they make about 60 quid on each game and happen to sell 8 million then they made 300 million. How does that come anywhere close to 5 billion. Even if they sold 15 million copies of the game which is more than the 7 million people out there with working 360s they still wouldn't hit 1 billion. 15 million multiplied by 60 quid is 900 million. They won't make profit, pointless overhyped like the game, article.

@andrewsqual

Your right, reason why is they threw away their first xbox instead of keeping it like sony does with theirs. Not to mention the RRoD didn't help them at all, but there is no doubt Halo 3 wil move consoles for MS. Im looking forward to getting 360 for halo 3 and NG2, not to finish flight that much but to play multiplayer.
