Microsoft still not getting Blu-ray for Xbox 360

Ó

Xbox 360 says no to Blu-ray - Image 1Are there any plans, or the tiniest bit of possibility at least, that Microsoft will be rolling out Blu-ray'd Xbox 360s in the future?

The battle for the new media format has long been over, with Toshiba completely admitting defeat of the HD-DVD. In fact, they say they're now looking into selling Blu-ray disc players by the end of the year, as well as producing Blu-ray recorders. So what of Microsoft? Have they changed their minds yet?

According to a Microsoft spokesperson, no.

As we have stated before, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360. We have a long-standing high definition strategy that runs across gaming and premium content, and it's a strategy that continues to pay off for us. Today, we offer the largest library of blockbuster games and offer a growing library of nearly 20,000 movies and TV episodes on Xbox Live Video Marketplace (more than 5,000 in HD). In addition, people have access to 12,000 films and TV episodes on Netflix Instant watch. And coming this fall, Xbox LIVE will launch digital movies with instant on 1080p HD streaming so you can experience the best video quality with no disc, no download, no delay.

Okay, we get it. It's a no. You can't get any clearer than that.

Blu-ray is the future, much like how DVD games replaced CD ones and CD ones replaced cartridges (for the most part.. obvious exceptions). Digital is nice, but games that are 50 GB or something.. How many can you hold on a hard drive?

On a slightly different note, I think the 360 is holding developers back in terms of space. Devs are shooting for multiplatform, but they know people will complain if one has significantly more content than the other.. and more discs in a package is more of a cost..

These don't get scratched much if u don't let them,or of course "360" does it,and if they do all u gotta do is "buffer" them, and bam back to playing again so don't say dumb stuff.

That's exactly why in 2 years time, PS3 is going to overtake the 360. That is unless they do decide to change and etc.

They won't have Blu-ray because it could lead to PS3 sales boost. Why buy an extra accessory when you can buy a PS3 with everything in it? Their not exactly that much further away from PS3 sales and having Blu-ray could mean they admit that the format they're using is obsolete.

Next Gen is going to be interesting though. How will people react to Xbox getting Blu-ray? People will probably think that Sony has more experience with the format therefor their system must be better. What will Nintendo do? Go back to graphics with motion control? Nintendo is going to have a hard time(maybe not since they target kids). Anyways getting all systems is still the way to go.

They should accept the fact that Blu-Ray is the next big thing, like when DVD got released.

it amazes me that sony fanboys STILL haven't done their research, they just hear what Sony tells them and believe it.

Blu ray is an inferior product, plain and simple. It in no way should be used for gaming and MS knows this. No game needs 50gb of space. Only a Sony fanboy would argue otherwise.

Do you know what they do? They put the exact same data on the blu ray 3 to 4 times on the same disc, so you aren't getting more content at all. And the reason why they do this is because the reading lazer is so SLOW that it can't scan back to the edges of a disc to get information, it has to be very close by or it will lock up every time you had to load a texture or 3D image that's stored on the outer or inner edges of the disc. So they aren't giving you any more data, they HAVE to give you more data, only problem with that is it's just more of the same.

So when big ole' Doom 4 comes out and it gets put on one bluray disc, and when that disc can't load textures fast enough and bogs down your game, don't complain to iD, complain to Sony. It already happens with many other games, especially multiplatform games.

Almost every multiplatform game is superior on Xbox360, and after a while you have to start to wonder why that is. Could it be because bluray isnt meant for games? Oh wait, it's the developers right? They intentionally want to deliver a less quality product and kill their own sales, that must be it. In not way could it be Sony! Oh no! It can't be the ps3 because the ps3 has bluray!

Sony followers were forced to buy this inferior format if they wanted to continue to support PS games, when the format itself does NOTHING for games and should really only be used as a movie format, if anything at all.

Of course, if I got duped into buying an inferior format just to further Sony's movie agenda then I would want to act like I wasn't a fool too.

MS is smart not to go the way of bluray.

Sony fanboys bought a movie machine than happens to also play games. MS fans bought a gaming machine that happens to also play movies.

For example..

Do you believe Sony pirates the copies of windows it installs on their laptops?

WHATS WRONG with this spokesperson ! we are speaking abou blue ray disc on xbox not for movies but games , a BD on xbox 360 would lead devlopers to see to the xbox360 on another way ( and maybe a MGS4 then ) " right MR kojima if we put a BD on xbox360 and paint it black will u be happy "

Okay, I'm just going to start with, GET OFF M$ D**K!

Now that we got that out of the way lets prove him way wrong.

1. "Blu ray is an inferior product, plain and simple. It in no way should be used for gaming and MS knows this. No game needs 50gb of space. Only a Sony fanboy would argue otherwise."

Okay, so can you e-mail Hideo Kojima and ask him why isn't Metal Gear Solid 4 on the XBOX? Just try that okay? MAYBE!! Just maybe, because the game is HUGE! Way too huge to fit on a DVD. It's like 47GB isn't it?(something like that) And you are telling me that we 'gamers' do not benefit from Blu-Ray in anyway? so where the F**K are we going to fit Metal Gear Solid 4 huh? We going to put it all on 5 DVD's?

Think before you speak.

2. "Do you know what they do? They put the exact same data on the blu ray 3 to 4 times on the same disc, so you aren't getting more content at all."

Can we just stop to laugh at that for a second..

Okay, back on track. So let me get this straight, they put Metal Gear Solid 4 and every other PS3 game on Blu-Ray discs "3 or 4 times" and then they sold it to us.. Hmm, i really think you were high when you said that because ON DISC Metal Gear Solid is 47GB or something okay..

Lets divide that by 3 or 4 and we get (divide by 3) 15GB (divide by 4) 11GB..

Ahhhhh, so your saying that Metal Gear Solid is only 11-15GB in ACTUAL size? But the graphics are soooo good and the games story and game play go for sooo long and the in-game cinematic's are just everywhere and go for ages. How would that all fit into 11-15GB?

Exactly.

3. "And the reason why they do this is because the reading lazer is so SLOW that it can't scan back to the edges of a disc to get information, it has to be very close by or it will lock up every time you had to load a texture or 3D image that's stored on the outer or inner edges of the disc. So they aren't giving you any more data, they HAVE to give you more data, only problem with that is it's just more of the same."

Okay retard just stop..

We all know the Laser on the PS3 is indeed slower but stating it cannot read to the edge of the disc is just idiotic.

Where is your source? Send me a link? Did you do a in home experiment? or are you just trying to find any reason to justify why your welfare money cant buy a PS3?

I think the last one

4. "So when big ole' Doom 4 comes out and it gets put on one bluray disc, and when that disc can't load textures fast enough and bogs down your game, don't complain to iD, complain to Sony.

Oh no! It can't be the ps3 because the ps3 has bluray!"

I thought i read somewhere on QJ.net that developers and analysts where blaming rushed ports and bad development knowledge on the multiplatform games being better on XBOX. I admit most of them did look better on the XBOX when PS3 first came out and we got CoD:4 and all them but these days they are getting much better, so i personally believe it was always not enough experience with the PS3 and too short of deadlines with games, so they just did a quick port because it was easier to develop for the XBOX and port to the PS3.

Just my opinion i would love to hear everyone else's so please reply to this.

5. "Sony followers were forced to buy this inferior format if they wanted to continue to support PS games, when the format itself does NOTHING for games and should really only be used as a movie format, if anything at all."

Stupid, Stupid boy, how old are you?

Games always take up more room than movies, duhh!

So why wouldn't the extra space be welcome from a gaming perspective?

I wasn't forced to buy my PS3? What are you on about, i bought it purely because hardware wise is is

Stupid, Stupid boy, how old are you?

Games always take up more room than movies, duhh!

So why wouldn't the extra space be welcome from a gaming perspective?

I wasn't forced to buy my PS3? What are you on about, i bought it purely because hardware wise it is more powerful, and i believe that Sony really listens to its members.

6. "Of course, if I got duped into buying an inferior format just to further Sony's movie agenda then I would want to act like I wasn't a fool too."

Dude, your the fool that going to get SOOO badly sledged for your stupid comments, that i wouldn't worry bout us Sony customers. Oh and i have only got 1 Blu-Ray movie for my PlayStation so i mainly use it for games, which i have about 45 discs and 28 PSN. So this is coming from a gamers perspective, which you are saying that's what Blu-Ray sucks most in, games.

7. "MS is smart not to go the way of bluray."

How? I personally believe that they are silly to restrict them selves to one format, (CD's are not used for games on the 360 so it pretty much on has one format, DVD) But saying that Sony owns parts of Blu-Ray and i doubt they would want more money in Sony's pocket for every XBOX 360 game sold? Look at it from a business point of view, not a customer.

8. "Sony fanboys bought a movie machine than happens to also play games. MS fans bought a gaming machine that happens to also play movies. "

I bought a entertainment system, all in one, with barely any restrictions (format wise). So with my entrainment system i got a Hardcore gaming machine with movies, music, photos and more built into one.

It specializes in games for sure, it has the PlayStation name, not Cybershot, not Bravia, not Ericsson, not Vaio.

So it IS a gaming system that happens to be able to do everything, even in depth X-Rays, that's how powerful it is.

Now to just get one thing straight, i own 3 PSP's, 2 iPod Touch's (one First Gen one 2nd Gen), 1 PS3 60Gb, 1 XBOX 360 Elite, 3 DSi's and a iPhone. I also have 2 other brothers so that explains the 3 PSP's etc. I love all my systems and play them often, my system of choice is my PS3 because i have a bigger games library, but playing Halo and Gears is always fun with friends. I am not a fanboy, i just found Sublime85's comments too be RIDICULOUS! and one sided.

Blu-ray has more space but a tiny bit slower load times, with the Game Installation Data that gets installed on our PS3 hard-drives to help load times i believe that Blu-Ray really is the way of the future, it has more ups than downs and we all love and welcome more space to our discs and games. Why make our devs choose between Quality or Quantity when they can have both on Blu-Ray.

Just my 2 sense, no fanboyism intended

i have a 360 ,and a ps3 ,and the one thing i hate in ps3 is to stand and do nothing ,everytime i buy a game for it,because of the installation.

on xbox 360 we put the game on tray and play in few seconds.

i don´t use BDmovies at all, because they are expensive, and my dvd player with hdmi connestion gives me a sharper and decent picture quality, and it´s cheaper.

i don´t care if the 360 doesn´t have metal gear 4,we will have one next year,it´s shorter? some wuold say! i don´t care,we also will have final fantasy,in 3 or 4 discs, who cares?

as long as i play and feel happy ,it´s ok with me.

if a 360 user thinks that a game in 3 or 4 discs is terrible,he has a solution buy a ps3,that´s all.

There was another format that HD DVD that already lost. It was competitive since it came out at the same time and arguably better in some ways. But it died due to support. Since all the movie studios supported Blu and will do so for the next forseeable years, I don't see another big format that will rival Blu in both games and movies.

BD Movies are not expensive if you wait a little. If you can't afford $10 - $15 bucks for some of these BD discs that go on sale after awhile, that's kind of sad.

DVD w/ HDMI will never look better than a Blu Ray. If you are on a crap TV you can't tell the difference, but if you are on an HDTV 32" or bigger, there is undisputable differences in quality.

Your other points on gaming could be valid though.

What i hate to hear is that many people believe that blu-ray isn't selling as well because of the economy(too expensive for some reason, you can get old Blu-ray movies for 15 bucks)

Trust me after 2 years or when the iraq war finally ends(which it looks like its going too) our economy is going to boost up dramatically(it always does after every war) Don't be surprised if blu-ray sells sky rocket after 2 years. I myself who used to love the 360 realized that its just isn't going to par up with the 360 especially after a year or two. Im hoping to get a ps3 this year(when sony does the price cut)

The 360 was fun back in 2006-2008, but as of now MS hasn't done ***** besides natal, which i can to on my pc XP. Im still going to hold on the my 360(for the few games i may want to play with) but the ps3(to me) is the main console right now

F-ing liar. If you have a PS3 then why would you buy Final Fantasy for the 360? Anyone with a brain is going to buy it for the PS3 if they have both systems, unless they have a modded 360 and just downloads the game because they want Versus instead. No one wants to have 4 discs if they have a system that uses only 1. Shut the f*** up fanboy.

It takes 5 f-ing minutes to install for the PS3 take a piss or jerk off instead of looking at the f-ing screen. It takes about that long for the 360 too. Installing games for both systems saves so much loading time.

the only ports that i remember were better on 360 were the rainbow six vegas games and they just plain sucked...they were popular with 360 because they had no good games. army of two as well imo it was a very mediocre game but it made top 5 in the 360 sales charts for that year. i play cod4 all the time n i have played it on 360 as well, there is no difference because IW has two teams working on each system...sometimes xbox has more issues with its servers even though they pay for online.

lastly @ Sublime85, can you please tell me in the past 2 years what game has come out for 360 with better grafix or content that isnt multiplatform... isnt uncharted the best looking 3rd person AA title, isnt killzone2 the best looking fps title, isnt lbp the most creative title out there, isnt mgs4 the best game of all time, isnt gran tourismo the best looking racer, isnt mag gonna be the biggest online shooter ever, isnt gow3 gonna be one of the best titles ever, isnt uncharted 2 gonna have better grafix than the first....how are any of those games even possible without bluray??????????????????????????????????????????????

PLEASE enlighten me, what is there on 360 that will top anything on my list....FFVS13 HAHAAAA OWNED!

Microsoft like being independent, This is why they buy out most other companies because it makes it easier for them.

Of course not, operating systems are usually installed by the computer retailers so they can include whatever they want to include.

However if Microsoft start selling their Xboxs with Blu-Ray this means that Sony would then be making money off the xbox aswell.

It's not called a console war for nothing.

They have said that they are going for digital downloads, this is their position and they will most likely stick to that strategy. So I dont know why this topic keeps coming up.

As soon as Microsoft switch to Blu-Ray they will then become reliant on Sony. This is not and has never been part of their business strategy to rely on other companies

my tv isn´t crap ,it´s a samsung.

i have a ps3 and a xbox360 ,and any of them is modified.

and i don´t like final fantasy ,actualy i hate it,but there are many xbox 360 who like it,that´s what ia was trying to say.

i know that bd is better, but it´s too expensive in portugal ,that´s where i live.

every BD movie ,it´s around 30 euros.

it´s cheap in the US,ok for you it´s ok to buy them ,but for me i have to stuck with dvd.

i don´t jerk off,actualy i don´t need it ,i´m married,ok?

so ,everytime you are wayting for a game to install on ps3 we all know what you are doing.

i´m not a funboy,i like ps3 and xbox360.

i´m going top buy games for both systems this year.

uncharted ,ninja gaiden sigma 2,heavy rain,etc.. for the ps3,actualy i have 13 games for my ps3,and 60 for xbox 360.

i´m going to buy dirt 2,assassin´s creed 2 ,mass effect 2,halo odst, army of two 2,etc.. for the xbox360.

i don´t need to install nothing in the hard drive in the hard drive on xbox 360 ,but have to do it everytime on the ps3,for example ,my ps3 has 60,gigs,i have 13 games, and only 25 gigs free, imagine if i have 60 games ,like i have on xbox 360? where do i put them?

i have an xbox 360 elite ,with 120 gigs, and one with 20 gigs, and i lots of disc space and nothing to install.lol.

and actualy the discution in here is for BD movies and not games.

so you see ,we are fighting ovr nothing.

you stick with your ps3 and live happy ever after ,and i will stick with my ps3 and xbox360 .

i just want to say to you

JUST SHUT THE ***** UP FUNBOY! PAPAJAG.LOL,LOL

Uhhh, how about Gears of War 1?

And I find GT2 to be a better driving simulator than anything non-GT in the genre.

Personally, I enjoyed KZ 1 multiplayer more than KZ2 since they pissed me of for not including local multiplayer. So Halo > KZ in that aspect. But for graphics and epic quality, KZ definately wins.

How I go about obtaining my games is as follows. If they're multiplatform and multiplayer is a big selling point, I go with the 360 version for Xbox Live (5 bucks a month isn't worth complaining about...) otherwise, I actually do my research instead of just going out on release day and buying it for my favorite console like a fanboy. If it's a PS3 exclusive, I pretty much just buy it since I find PS3 exclusives better than 360 exclusives in general.

The code to fit 256 players on one server could be fit on a regular Compact Disc... Hell, probably even a floppy.(the core, unimplemented code anyway)

It's the Cell Processor that makes it possible, nothing to do with the medium the code comes on...

And MGS4 wouldn't need Blu-Ray to be the best game of all time. Any true fan would know that.

Pretty much anyone flaming a fanboy and says they're not a fanboy is a damn hypocrite. If you're not a fanboy you'd just let them fight amongst themselves, or let them sit there reading their walls of text (or possibly revised essays) over and over without anyone taking notice. Arguing just makes you look bad.
