Microsoft Sends out Extended Warranty Letter - Pay More to Get More |
Ó
Yesterday I received a letter in the mail
detailing an extended warranty plan for my brother's Xbox 360, and immediately
threw it aside. However, I recalled the previous discussion of extended
warranties for Xbox's manufactured before January 1st, and read up more on
that. Apparently, those that purchased these Xbox 360's received a free extension to their warranty to 1 full year. My brother had purchased his Xbox 360 in the spring and it broke down a few months ago (Ring of Death - 3 red lights issue) and sent it back. This was, luckily, before Microsoft started charging for the shipping of the console, so I did not have to pay anything besides time.
Just now I received a letter detailing an extended warranty in which I could purchase up to a 3 year plan! I began wondering about why they sent me this, and recalled that I had sent in my brother's Xbox 360 under my name!

I'm assuming that Microsoft's distributing these letters to all of those who have sent their 360's in for repair, hoping to get some extra "dough" out of the deal from the consumer who already had faulty hardware. However, the price of the extended warranty is nothing to smile at, with 3 years toping off at just under 100$, I think I would save my money and take my chances. I've uploaded high-quality scans of the entire letter and form for those interested in their "scheme" - just click each image to go to the high-res image.

wow, M$ is really going for it now. Consoles aren't supposed to break down...
I bought the extended warranty on mine... I figured it would be more than 3 years where the $100 I spent was a better deal than buying a new one. Consoles started breaking down when they got moving parts. Something that takes cartridges shouldn't break (NES did occasionally) but anything with moving parts will eventually need to be replaced if used enough.
I bought the warranty - 3 yr - figured it would be more than 3 years before $100 was a bad deal rather than spending another $300 or $400 on a replacement console. Consoles started breaking down when they started using moving parts (cd drives, fans, cd trays, etc.) All 3 of the new consoles are going to have problems with the drives over time. Gamecube and PS2Slim had the right idea with a spring-loaded lid rather than a tray. And PS3 / Wii - those type of CD loaders have always given me trouble.
Why is that a xbox 1 logo?
A scheme implies that that they are being deceptive, but there's nothing deceptive here. They're simply offering you an opportunity to get insurance on your 360. You don't have to get it if you don't want it. It's like getting apartment insurance. You don't have to get it, but if disaster strikes, you'll be glad you have it.
All my cartrige systems still work, but then so does my GC and PS2, both of which are way more than 3 years old
If your console breaks you go to the store, buy a new one, put the old one in the box and return it...no warranty needed....*****en jackasses!!!!
my console came with a 10 day opportunity to get extended warranty for 2 years at 49.50 . 10 days i think thats a lil short window to get the warranty. i guess they dont want me to return it to the store if something happens before 30 days/
they scan the serial number at the store and can tell when the unit was purchased.
under $100 to protect a $400 investment for 3 years? That seems like a good value. $33 a year is a small amount of money to make sure that you will be gaming on your 360 for a long time to come. I am not 100% behind this insurance.... I am not sure what it covers. But it sounds pretty good to me.
Why are human so prevalent to *****ing? Thats all the poster is doing...Nearly every eletronic device has some type of service contract..If you don't wish to puirchase one than don't! Its your choice. If you want to pay the $139.90 for every repair do it...I don't care! But why did he take the all time to upload the image of the service contract offer (and he even has one uploaded in Hi resolution)....LMAO.... and take all the time to write his little ***** session too... You are a waster of time!!! Everyones time! hehe. Even my time cause you triggered me to write this...heheheheh
