Microsoft responds to rumors of Xbox 360 requiring hard drive |
Ó
Microsoft is quick to react to rumors about the Xbox 360 needing a hard drive to run future games. They have denied the rumors that future games will need a hard drive to run, albeit sparse on the details. The rumor, which would have gone the wrong way with the 20% of Xbox 360 owners who own the Core if proved true, started with XF learning of the "Hard Disk Drive Required" sticker appearing on the cases of some games in the future. The appearance of the sticker follows the rumor of the Xbox 360 Core being phased out.
Two and two: the rumors imply that a new system in Xbox gaming may soon take over, and games that need a hard drive to run will be the trend as was done with the original Xbox. Microsoft squelches the rumor quickly though, saying , "Every game will work with every Xbox 360 system. But just like some games will require you to have a Memory Unit to save games, some games will require you to have a Hard Drive to experience them."
While it does assure us that the games would at least work, it's not exactly a promising statement, as they make no clarifications as to what the lack of a hard drive would actually mean for the "stickered" games. We'll have to wait for further announcements to find out.

I was hoping this would be true
I don't get it why the first xbox came out every unit had a HDD, but now 360 on the other hand didn't have it (well core system that is) but I think that was on MS move and now we the consumer are suffering cause of that (core owner that is) why didn't they just put a 15gb hdd on the core? man money is the root to every little evil in this darn world.
i dont believe a word coming from ms these days - why dont they just answer every question with 'F*ck YOU GAMERS!' would be better than the double speak nonsense we usually get
it is true, but they put it in different wording!
Guys read there statement. "Every game will work with every Xbox 360 system. But just like some games will require you to have a Memory Unit to save games, some games will require you to have a Hard Drive to experience them."
Which means that you will need to get a HDD to play the games, which in terms contradicts the article main point. Do you see the BS that MS talks about. Man impressive.
well they still want you to BUY the game, just that if you don't have an hdd and can't run it, its your fault
That sticker already exists, but it's only on one game: FFXI. And that's for good reason, since the game would otherwise be incompatible with the Xbox 360.
You will be able to play the game on your 360. Period. What they mean is the following:
For MMOS:
You can't stream all this from a DVD.
For the full "Experience" they are talking about less load times by adding the game to the HD, etc. There is NO game that isn't online that requires a HDD, PS3 or 360. The use of caching and storing info on your harddrive is just that, storing and caching, theres no game that's going to say, "You have 1 gig of space which means you can't play this game", it doesn't work like that.
You guys need to learn something about consoles before you go spouting bs, "Z0mG MS is *****ing the consumer", yes, by providing a cheap alternative for people who aren't hardcore gamers, That's whats really *****ing us over. And the price drops too, we don't want any of those! We want to pay $600 to watch HD movies!!!
You can add a hard drive to any system at any time, therefore, every game will work with every system.
I didn't read any contradiction. Some games may require a hard drive. If you want an online only game like Final Fantasy XI (the only game requiring one at the moment,) it's common sense to know you will need a hard drive. What a weak argument, Stealth!
ROFL. how is it common cents that a player should know that playing an MMO requires a HDD?? you're saying that even a 1st grader should know that? even those who don't play games? those who never played an MMO but want to jump in?
WRONG.
Common cents means EVERYONE should know it. breathing is common cents, knowing u may get in trouble for breaking the law is, and walking is common cents. but knowing that an HDD is required to play an MMO? ROFL, 70% of the people on this earth doesn't even know what "HDD" or "MMO" stands for.
pwnt
Cents?
Word to the dumb: when you are too damn stupid to know how to spell the word "sense," your "point" is automatically nullified.
these new systems (next-gen) are competing to be more affordable. the core package was a cheaper way to get a gamer into next-gen gaming and of course there was always the option of buying a HDD at a later time. all of the price drops are due to competition and so was the choice to leave out the HDD on the core.
