Remember that recent failure rate report filed by independent warranty provider SquareTrade? Microsoft finally responded to the claim that the Xbox 360 had a failure rate of 16.4% - the highest among the three major consoles - and rebutted that the statement by SquareTrade is questionable at best. Here's what Microsoft spokesman Joe DiMiero had to say:

Microsoft does not comment on hardware failure rates, nor do we comment on speculation...We have not seen the report, and are unfamiliar with the agency that filed it. Based on the enthusiast community's feedback yesterday, the methodology of this report is suspect.

Microsoft had good reason to point out SquareTrade's reliability, since the warranty firm did not furnish the complete report. It wasn't even able to give the sample size of the study upfront, though it was later mentioned that it was based on a 1,000 sample size. SquareTrade also elaborated that of the 16.4% failure rate, more than a half were accounted for the infamous Red Ring of Death problems.

failure rates were high and this FACT Microsoft addressed once it became apparent that this was not due to a bad batch.

Microsoft also wrote off 1 Billion to rectify this problem is also a FACT and a FIGURE.

Pointing fingers, giving blame and stating who what why and when are not important.

What is important is that the company set out to create a console to win clients.

It did this and on its course mistakes were made and these were rectified as best as is possible.

Some may have had bad experiences but most are or were satisfied.

In my simple opinion even though i suffered the cost of a second console if the majority are satisfied with the offered solution then we must accept that in a sensible world the majority wins.

In life people societies companies and governments make mistakes if these mistakes are used as a lesson to learn from then things only get better.

Rather than amplify what is wrong (often without FACTS to present the argument) it is in all of our interests to comment on how things have improved.

Even if the failure rate of newer boxes is still higher than desired it is a lot lower than previous boxes, let us hope that this downward trend continues rather than continually slap the manufacturer in the face.

Everytime MS and Sony states "does not comment on hardware failure rates, nor do we comment on speculation.."

Or something to that affect it turns out true. Come MS admit that 16.4 is better than what the console had 8 months ago. While it may not look pretty it does look better than what you were previously at. In fact you can be thankful since the failure rates of Both Sony and Ninty went up to 3%, so you declined while they rose, and not in a bad way either.

You should be happy. More BS from MS.
