Microsoft quiet on Xbox 360 price cut, waiting for old stock to disappear? |
Ó

I fully expected Microsoft to follow Sony's PS3 price cut announcement with one of their own for the Xbox 360 Elite. Some rumors about an Elite price drop have been floating around for a while now, but we heard nothing of the sort during Microsoft's GamesCom conference.
According to a report from MCV, Microsoft has considered delaying the price cut announcement while they wait for "unusually high stock levels" of the Arcade and Elite models to fly off retail shelves. Microsoft has also apparently told retailers about a new SKU, although it's not clear if this is the price-slashed Elite or another SKU altogether.
This supposedly comes from a national electronics retailer in the UK, so things might be different in the US, where some print ads about the price cut have already been seen.
Another possibility -- this is just idle speculation, mind you -- is that Microsoft is confident enough that its current pricing scheme will keep it from losing ground to Sony in terms of market share.
Any thoughts, guys?

Elite is getting a $100 off its retail price soon, we all know that. but even at $299 the ps3 will be a tough opponent to beat with the same price. but it will take some time to sony to gain more people with ps3, since most of them already own a x360 or a Wii, or both... myslef, i already own a x360 and ps3. i play my x360 way more than ps3 but im starting to see good things to come to ps3 later on.
At the same price I'd wager more people would buy a PS3, because 1. It's Playstation and 2. It's a Bluray player for the same price. Unless MS cuts their prices further, like Elite down to $250, I don't see the Xbox outselling the PS3 anymore
You are wrong because people wont buy ps3 console because it's "playstation" they will buy it because now at the same price as an x360 elite ps3 offers much more for that same price, wifi built in, rechargeable controllers, blu ray (which i rarely use for movies), swapable hard drive and better quality.
You are right because ps3 now is gaining its lost momentum in the console war. and now there's no way x360 will outsell ps3. actually it never did, people say it did because of monthly sales but if u put all the sales together ull see that even x360 with a year ahead of ps3, they both are near eachother... now if microsoft slashes $100 from all their versions (except arcade) they'll just go the way they used to be before... with a $100 price difference people will buy the cheapest system. same games, same graphics. only difference is price, again.
