Microsoft plays it cool: New Xbox 360 warranty announced (again) |
With concern mounting for the Xbox 360's technical problems (aka 3RLOD) and in light of recent reports, Microsoft has decided to take measures to address the issue before it gets out of hand. That's the message that MS' Peter Moore is conveying via letter over at the official Xbox site, which announces the company's new warranty plan for all current 360 owners. Here reads a segment of the letter:
As of today, all Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty program to address specifically the general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and previously-sold consoles. While we will still have a general one year console warranty (two years in some countries), we are announcing today a three-year warranty that covers any console that displays a three flashing red lights error message. If a customer has an issue indicated by the three flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of charge—including shipping—for three years from the console’s purchase date. We will also retroactively reimburse any of you who paid for repairs related to problems indicated by this error message in the past.
We imagine the resident 360 owners will find this news to be most reassuring - the company's got your back. There's also the matter of the new 360 line with new heat sinks to look forward to, but given MS has been keeping mum on the matter, we'll reserve our energies until further info is confirmed on that. For the moment, the new warranty should cover the console's problems until a more permanent (hopefully) fix is found.
Our gratitude goes to Slipstream0 for informing us of this big news!

i know you got to keep your customers happy..but thats not a smart business plan....
i didn't expect this!
Way better then sony has ever done to its fans with the ps1 and ps2!
was learn from it and make rock solid in the PS3...
so what if the ps1 and ps2 had problems??? that's history... does it give Microsoft the license to not move forward from that and improve??? this is the next generation for crying out loud!!
good gesture from microsoft though... still doesn't change the fact that they're marketing a flawed product.
sony didn't learn from the ps1...they learned from a class action lawsuit resulting from the *****ty ps2.
What makes you fanboys silly is thinking one company is better then the next.
Is microsft better thne sony?
NO *****ING WAY!
But sony isn't better either.
" does it give Microsoft the license to not move forward from that and improve"
They have moved forward.
Sony never did anything like this.
" this is the next generation for crying out loud!!
"
Yep. You are a genius.
But that doesn't mean companies can't make hardware mistakes.
I wouldn't be surprised to find my ps3 "break " a year from now...just like my ps2 did.
But did that stop me from paying to have it repaired?
no.
so ur telling me u just bought ur xdead 360 is to return it to MS to get it fixed..... y did u bother buying a so called next gen console if u aint going to use/play w/ it. thats just plain stupid. u could have bought a already broken xdead 360 instead of buying a new/halfbroken one.
nintendo's and sony's next gen consoles has less than 1% failure rate... so yeah companies can make reliable hardware.
how can you say that microsoft has moved forward from a last gen which was plagued with consoles hardware issues when they carried it over into the following generation of consoles???
and you are a hipocrite with ur "What makes you fanboys silly is thinking one company is better then the next" cause if i remember ur the one who said
"Way better then sony has ever done to its fans with the ps1 and ps2"
"
and you are a hipocrite with ur "What makes you fanboys silly is thinking one company is better then the next" cause if i remember ur the one who said "
really?
did i say ps3?
i said ps1/ps2 which is true you sony zealot.
Microsoft has moved forward. they admit to the unacceptable hardware failures and have responded to it TWICE!
it took a lawsuit for sony to move.
Are you that damn ignorant? Seriosly...Im not a 'Fanboy', Ive owned a PS3 hated it sold it for a 360 and there are more games for the MS system that I prefer to play than what SOny has to offer(including the games to come, cept Haze >.
The graphics and games for the 360 are so HOT THAT NOT EVEN THE SYSTEM CAN HANDLE IT!!!
what you dont understand is will this make better systems come right out from the box when you get it. NO it won't.
The only thing there doing is delaying the inevitable I want working consoles right out form the box not extended warranties. They already lost close to a billion form this. Doing this wont solve anything. Just make more useless fanbase.
Your right Quixand

Why am I not surprised to find a Sony fantard posting negative sh*t over an announcement like this on QJ?
Face it, MS just proved to the world they really do care about their customers, which is far from anything Sony has ever done.
You know what I got for my broken out of warranty PS2? A demo disc. Yeah that's right, one of those Summer demo discs you could pick up at Toys R Us for $5. With this warranty announcement, I get an extra year for free, which is worth $50, and my console didn't even break! For the people whose did, they get the $140 they payed to fix it refunded, AND the extra year on the warranty. So basically MS is giving every 360 owner on the planet at least $50, $190 if they payed to have their console fixed.
If you look back, you can recall the PS1 and even the PS2 had major problems. Sony took a look at 10 years of problems and improved on their new console. Now Microsoft has just entered the gaming business and is learning on how to improve their console. An example for showing their improvement is switching from a 90 mm (I forgot what the thing is called so let's just leave at as "thing") to a 65 mm thing which will greatly reduce the heat which is generated. And the new Xbox 360 Elite consoles with this 65 mm thing will not only produce less heat, but it'll be quiter as well. Microsoft is learning on how to improve their console month by month and it definitely shows. Plus, I'm planning on buying an Xbox 360 Elite and I was going to buy a three year warranty but now that Microsoft is giving a three year warranty for free, they saved me $90 or so bucks. Anyways, in conclusion, Sony had many problems with their previous consoles, and time after time, they improved on their errors and that's why no PS3 problems have been found.........yet, and Microsoft is also improving on the problems the Xbox 360 has had such as overheating.
-BrendanL
lol i got a permanent solution to their problem, reimburse all the people who bought the 360s and give them all disposal equitment and start from scratch with a better console, oh ya the only ps3 to ever break is because the moron covered up all the exhaust vents which would bust any piece of electronics that generates heat.
qw and : I ModestMouse I i will copy my post above
" what you dont understand is will this make better systems come right out from the box when you get it. NO it won't.
The only thing there doing is delaying the inevitable I want working consoles right out form the box not extended warranties. They already lost close to a billion form this. Doing this wont solve anything. Just make more useless fanbase."
This is bull *****. They will only fix 3 red rings of death how bout one you *****ing piece of *****. This just pisses me off even more. Mines still *****ed up. Ive gotten a bunch of red rings of death but it goes away for some reason. And ever since that started happening my 360 freezes constantly. I scared to even start to make custom cars in forza2 because it will probably just crash. This only makes certain people happy. How about the other 10% of the 35% failure rate. They are only helping certain people. They left out the people with one ring of death. Burn in hell MS. How bout you make a *****ing decent console before you ship to million of people. Those people that send there in better get an extra cooling heat sink to. Just like the europeans did. They actually stopped all together with helping people. Im not some hired sony rep trying to give 360 a bad name. I love my 360 but why couldnt they make a system that didnt ***** all over your ***** many times. This warranty exstension isnt good enough.
Though will it be enough, i mean by the time they "fix" there problem sony might get better games and pummel them to the ground. You know what i mean. Im not a fanboy but a sony fan. but you get what i mean. They already lost over a billion right now, they could lose further.
Great idea love it, yea what a tard.
you moron!!!
doesn't matter if you mentioned ps1 or ps2 and not ps3.
reas on being there lazy thats why.
they are already coming in refurbish, certified by them, at local game shops. They also confirmed that months ago that they are not using a cooler chip setting. The sad thing is they know they cannot recall the million plus systems on the store shelves so they entice people with a three year warranty, for what. It breaks, you send it off, it breaks again, you send it off again. man I like M$'s next gen, more time at the post office with a card board box then playing games.
Lol you all need a life, ps3/360/wii/zelda... go stay on your own respective websites covering your own respective consoles. Xbox breaks, ps3 has no online, wii is for kids, zelda is zelda nuff said. You guys make good comedy for when im bored but now your all just acting like 5 year olds arguing over which colour crayon tastes better.
I'd still take over the warranty over nothing. Microsoft is learning and they will keep getting better. To the people who are buying the 360, software is what's causing to make the purchase. They know Microsoft is taking steps to fix the problem, and know that if the console breaks, they will get it replaced for free.
Hey peoples. This extended warranty thing doesn't sound too bad to me, but why only for consoles with 3 flashing red lights? I have had my 360 for 14 months now and yesterday while playing fight night 3, the graphics started becoming glitchy. Thinking it was maybe the disc, i quit and tried oblivion, same thing. I then tried sreet fighter 2 hyper which is on the hard drive, same thing. Tried switching the console off and back on and got the dreaded BSOD (now known as the Black Screen Of Death) and an error code E 74. Also the bottom right LED flashes red. Apparently this is to do with a faulty AV cable, but i have tested many and the cables are fine on my mates xbox.
So are people that have xbox's with these symptoms going to be overlooked or what, cos it is REALLY annoying to have to update and download all that stuff again because i have to use another console. I noticed games that you have downloaded need to be unlocked again. Also can't play Shivering Isles now until i update everything again.
Also post something interesting or informative, not this pre-school gibberish. Can't some people spell without a spell checker?
I didn't say company.
" Company "
what is that? a false quote?
And we all know steal is you quix.
You stupid fanboy.
I never stated microsoft was better.
You just went on the defensive for some dumbass reason.
Why don't you go on and play your favorite system....While I play them all.
Stealth we know you are the fantard quixand...
quicksand.
you forgot to mention how much money MS is losing with this.....
1-1.5 billion dollars i say???
and people still think MS cares about their costumer...
hahaha
ye right, xbots they aren't doing this for you....
they are doing this for themselves...they have just announced a recall worldwide in the form of a warranty so that the name MS doesn't get any more dirty than it is...(windows vista???worst software ever made by MS)
this is just proof that MS does not care at all and will just throw money at people so that they just forget about it...
this is bullcrap...with their fake undercover recall
Good stuff, there i have been saying this for a long time and people think i know s.h.i.t Same for others. Maybe this will quite the idiot fantards called MS fanboys.
i dont understand some of you people.
if microsoft refused to offer another warranty, you guys would talk so much sh*t.
but now they offer the warranty and your talking sh*t anyways?
wow nice
lol syde, people like you are the reason fanboys get made fun of so much.
seriously, the 360 is doing good in the market and microsoft is replacing consoles with problems. how can you hate on a single console so much? is it because you cannot afford another?
you probably dont even have a social life...
stealth, I saw your worthless post above and didn't give a sh*t about it then, why would I want to read it again? Whoever can make anything negative out of this is the worst kind of fanboy
And you are extremely stupid if you think MS didn't learn something from this. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "make better systems come right out from the box" (mainly because your grammar is terrible) but there are two ways to interpret that.
If you're trying to say MS didn't learn anything from this and it will happen again with the next Xbox console, you said yourself you know it's costing them one billion to fix all this, do you really think it will happen again with their next console? MS didn't become a top business with billions in revenue by being retarded you know
If you meant that comment with regards to the 360 only, from this point on MS will be manufacturing 360s with the GPU heatsink problem corrected. So yes you will be able to buy "better systems come right out from the box"
Does this mean you could buy a broken 360 on ebay for cheap and then get it fixed by microsoft for free?
"Way better then SONY has ever done to its fans with the ps1 and ps2!"
better than Sony... Sony is fuc*king what????? a COMPANY!!!! doesn't matter if you didn't mention the PS3!!!!! u said better then SONY!!!
and then you go and say:
"What makes you fanboys silly is thinking one company is better then the next."
now is it clear enough for you??? more than just being a hipocrite ur a stupid one at that.
Awesome move by microsoft. Not only do they look generous for offering a 3 year warranty for the 3RLOD, but they also get to start circulating the (hopefully) non-faulty 360s with the new heatsinks to avoid future problems. Smart move!
Glad to see they are fixing the real problem, by extending the warranty. That will fix it. Idiots.
Xblows division is bleeding the company like a stuck pig.
Microsoft has NEVER done hardware well. Just like sony doesn't do software.
I was smart enough, after my first xblows 270 burned up, to throw it out, and never buy another microsoft product again. They are one of the worst companies in the world. They make the console soooo cheap, they're doomed fail. Cheap solder, cheap fans, cheap cheap cheap = profits profits profits at your expense. The 1 billion dollar warranty program, is a drop in the bucket.
What's next? Lifetime warranty, for a poorly made product? That's real smart business sense.
ew ew my ps3 is better than your xbox blah blah blah,
go f**k off and cry to your mummys. Does anyone here actually have a life? a girlfriend? something half intelligent to say?
Who gives a f**k which one is better there are more important things in the world to worry about.
t**ts
it is an extremely good move. everytime they take one of the 360s for repair they replace it with a new one with the heatsink. This one will most likely not fail (atleast not 3rlod) so they drop the number that have to be repaired drastically and resolve the bad hype that the 360 keeps failing.
The Red ring of light issue has entered the Hardware history books and is causing MS severe reputation loss that may cost them the gaming industry
the statement above is to reassure costumers and cast the fear away
however wether they will truly fiz all the RoR systems is yet to be seen, this will cost them a fortune with 33% of system failure rate
regardless, cost umers should always avoid a system with this rate of headache
i guess Vista is doing too badly to help microsoft anymore, whats with MS trying to obtain patents over Linux ??? scared perhaps
check the latest Linux Ubuntu distro
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
dont pay 400$ for a crap called Vista [Basic edition is worthless dont even look at it],when you can have a FREE alternative, and in the worse scenario stick to Xp
but MS wouldnt let you keep XP would they ??? theyl just have to force you to their crap Vista OS as they always do
do your move now.....stop the monopoly and choose an alternative for FREE
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Wii!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
You never had a 360 in the first place mshater your just annoyed that MS are doing something to rectify this problem so you and the other sony fanboys decided to come and cry because you wont be able to bang on about this problem for much longer.
Well done ms my metaphorical hat is off to you.
Microsoft makes their Hardware with same quality of their software
crap
so instead of a 1 year headache....a three year headache? not worth the purchase till the machine is really fixed.
lmao, me cant afford a MS console, fyi i wanted to buy that xdead 360 but upon reading lots of problem that comes with it then i thought about it, y would i waste my hard earn money on a system that im going to buy and not able to use it. no matter how many games or how well MS is doing on the market right now if they cant even make their product more durable then its no sense buying that product even though every one is hyped about it. Yea btw my social life is better than u losers sitting in ur computer all day reading and posting on this stupid thread and just keep repeating urself over and over w/ non sense comment that cant even back up ur reason. i afforded to buy a wii, ds, psp, ps3 let alone i can afford another system but xdead 360 is not on my list anytime soon.
that causes the problems, if that were the case they would have stopped the problem a long time ago. Its got something to do with the mother boards, some kind of thermal seal that binds the circuts to the board.
the problem is probably related to GPU...
as you know the 360 GPU "xenos" is Prototype for the unified shader system, meaning that it not a finilized design
the fact that MS wanted to rush to the market meant that the GPU wasnt properly tested for quality and reliabilty thus it Overheats
this is not somethink MS can fix with a heatsink or bythemselves,th is is GPU related its much more diffucult and involves ATI itself, they cant simply change the GPU design as it affects game performance and compatiblity
MS is in a very bad situation, the RoR has entered the history of the one the most prevalent hardware problems in a product to date
Vista isnt helping either its extremely underwhelming
by the way....if you are using IE for viewing this you are major noob
Get FireFox 2 !!!!!
Just rang Customer Support to get my 360 fixed under the new warranty and was informed that since I bought it second hand from a shop (even though I have a receipt) I would still be charged for the repair.
This is even though Microsoft themselves state:
"As of today, ALL Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty"
&
"This applies to new and PREVIOUSLY-SOLD consoles"
Really annoyed, the manufacture date is Jan 2006 so it is still within the 3 years of the original purchase. There is no mention whatsoever on the site about any consoles being exempt from this new policy. After all other electrical items have their warranty carry on when sold on, I don't see why there should be a difference here.
I've emailed microsoft over this and am now waiting for a reply.
Anyway, I just figured I'd warn anyone who bought one second hand from eBay, a shop or whatever.
Since 2nd hand consoles aren't covered I wonder if that also applies to refunding repair costs for 2nd hand consoles??
I qoute
"i mean by the time they "fix" there problem sony might get better games" - Stealth
You're right, they MIGHT get better games hahaha
"not a fanboy but a sony fan" - Stealth
hahaha, anyone reading these knows your a fanboy.
Previously sold means any console purchased as new, before the original warranty expired.
That why most used consoles are a rip because those warranties there are not transferable. Unless you are buying from a friend and know the condition(barin g the r.o.d)and at a resonably cheap price.
Considering the track record of the last few gens hardware and the less then friendly enthuasism toward the second hand market . Buying a used negates any the money saved compared to the overall cost of repairs or replacement.
Fact is will this make better consoles out from the box, or delay the inevitable.
Thats why people are saying this, This only makes some people feel better, not people wanting to get xbox like my self.
Yea talk is cheap until they back it up.
They say this now but bill is only looking out for himself, he could give two S.H.I.T.S about people like you.
A rich billionaire only cares for investment and money, which is why he has that much, . If he cared so much he would make working consoles right off the bat. But hey keep dreaming little boys maybe one day you could do better than this cheap skate
99% of the posts here are borderline retarded...I don't prefer any company but you all just sound like F'ng crybabies.
MS has been scrutinized on almost every gaming site recently for the RLOD,and all the Sony people use that as ammo.
NOW,MS has rectified the problem with an unheard of length of warranty, and you think this is more ammo to flame?
You name me ONE,just one, electronic sold by ANY company that carries a three year warranty. You can't.
Now let's look at this from a consumer standpoint.Anyone spending THEIR own money on a video game console (not mommy's)
is going to compare price vs how much usage they'll get from the machine (ie: game library) vs how long the machine will last.
All the Ms flamers can say whatever they want, but it doesn't change the fact that they are doing more then any other comany in the video game industry right now.Be it first party, third party,or general hardware and accessories.
I love the Sony brand and I've owned several of every system they've released, beside s PS3.Because I love GAMES!
And to get me to buy one they are gonna have to do more than blu-ray.
Now the term being coined alot is "out of the box" which I find hilarious.
It will be even more hilarious when you PS3 owners get a "console killer" game.
And don't tell me it won't happen, because its happened on every system that runs discs as its media.
When half the ps3's break becuase they've been folding protien for 6 months, and now all of a sudden you get a good game with hardware demands, that you eventually overplay, and it eventually kills your system.
Good luck getting 3 year coverage from Sony then...
Your right! If some stupid company wants to extend their warranty because it has defects then I should hate them more! And those b*st*rds! They are even spending money, wow thats so devious! I cant believe a company can make profit, thats unheard of!
33% failure rate...you are the only one borderline retarded.
Its no surprize nor is it gracious of Xbox to offer an unprecedented 3 year warranty afterall... 33 *****ing percent you moron! I cant name another electronic device that failed as badly as that. Im not a microsoft fan or a sony fan Im an American consumer and expect to be sold a working a console. How do you explain the months, almost years that microsoft has known about the "3 ring" problem and known about the 33% and yet denied the problem and forced consumers to spend there own hard earned cash to fix there F* up's. Stop being so gratefull to microsoft you shill and open your eyes. the only reason they extended the warranty is because the press let it get out about the huge F* up. If they hadnt felt such a mass public outcry they would still be covering it up.
Everyones acting like this is so gracious of Xbox, there just gonna pawn the cost of fixing off on the consumer. Pricey games, pricey hardware, already over priced Xbox live. ASSUME THE POSITION KIDDYS!
Needs 2 be registered 2 u first.
you think ur funny throwin it away when u can fix it 4 free and sell it?? wot a crank!
Who sounded grateful or gave praise to MS...You make yourself sound special by resorting to name calling and throwing around this 33% figure that has never been proved except for "A former EB games manager" and such.
I find it funny that you say your an "American Consumer"
So what, that means you prefer one foriegn based company over another?
You made no sense in most of your stament, because a level headed consumer, being American or not, would see a three year warranty, and know a company stands behind that product.
Follow Sony blindly into the ground if you want to,but why do you come on message boards name-calling and typing without thinking if your so enlightened on consumerism and product specs.
I haven't had any problems with my 360 in 8 months, so maybe I'm just a lucky one. i do have to thank Microsoft for standing behind their product, Sony never did. i went through 3 ps2's with nothing but grief.
i bought the 360 for two reasons XB live and halo3 and now i have a guarantee that I'll be immersed in both for three years. kudos to M$.
Mmm I bought a 360 off someone and it now has 3rlod but I don't have receipt from the original buyer. So would I still be able to get the repair by Microsoft?
Mmmm I bought a 360 off someone last year and it now has the 3rlod but unfortunately I never got the original receipt. Am I eligible for this warranty/repair? As when they say all do they mean every 360 where the owner can prove purchase proof?
Because a 3 year warranty is amazing...
No one really has any reason to ***** and complain now.....
Kudos to microsoft to shut everyone up with a super crazy warranty....
Remember, this is MS's 2nds console, and they are not in the electronics buininess really...
Sony had been making electronics for decades before they put out ps1 + 2 (both of which had major problems) So who has more of an excuse when it comes to imperfect hardware engineering ?
MS will learn, just like Sony did....but at least they are doing their best.
Also, they admited to launch 360's being faulty, which there were 2 million or more of.
So all these reports could and most likely are just the fallout from launch.....who's to say their newly produced consoles aren't stable ?
I know mine has been for 1.5 years, so it's not fair to say they are marketing a flawed product...as mine is not flawed in any form.
well, maybe this is for stoping those claims that 33% of the consoles fails is just too much. I don't know. I hope mine doesn't brakes but if it does i think this is a good move.
I think if you make a survey people who have got a failure on the xbox will vote. but if you have a normal one u wont even bother
Sadly if you bought it from someone else just pray they never registered it in their details, otherwise you're in the same situation I am - screwed royally.
microsoft said this new waranty would take a little while to roll out worldwide be patient
you dont need a receipt there is a serial number on every console the serial number determines when the console was made, microsoft good move now nothing will stop people from buying your wonderful console. sony fanboys eat your heart out LOL
$5 says M$Hater is stealth
"A rich billionaire only cares for investment and money, which is why he has that much, . If he cared so much he would make working consoles right off the bat. But hey keep dreaming little boys maybe one day you could do better than this cheap skate"
No, if he cared about people so much he would donate billions to charitable causes. Oh wait, Bill Gates does that! Can't say the same about anyone with Sony
It goes something like this:
Bill Gates: "I have just donated 50 trillion dollars to the Make a Wish Foundation, so that all the terminally ill children can see their wildest dreams come true"
Kaz Hirai: "RIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER"
they need to just fix the damn things! if they are broken then you will just get a broken one in return!
"I love the Sony brand and I've owned several of every system they've released, beside s PS3.Because I love GAMES!
And to get me to buy one they are gonna have to do more than blu-ray"
sony does a lot more for your gaming than blu ray, internal 2.5 sata hard disk allows you to install some if not most of your games to the hard drive (Optional) which cuts the load times by heaps, you have a free online service which PC gamers have had forever except for WoW F.a.g.s. lol... you also get all the features that X360 has but free of charge, like paying for a hard drive or paying for a controller charger lol $110 AUD for a 360 Black Controller and Charger, PS3 $79 AUD and you can use a simple USB cable...
also the PS3 does'nt have red rings issues actually im pretty sure i have never heard of bricking on it despite the fact that Bricking is X360's Daily Feature and well we all know about the Wii's update brickfest at launch...
Ttyl SNAAPPP!!!
that usb cable that comes with the ps3 is like 5 friggin feet the one on the xbox 360 is as long as the xbox one controller cord so you can charge and PLAY at the same time with the ps3 you have to charge then wait or get up close to your tv you would have to buy a usb extender just to get to the length of the xbox 360s charger cable so you still have to spend even more money you make no sense xbox 360 is owning ps3 and you sony fanboys just sound dumb in forums pathetic. LOL
Do they repair or replace as I don't want a Benq dvd drive:P?
If serial number is registered under someone else's name though then Microsoft won't be interested sadly
Problem is though if person you bought it off registered it in there name you will have a LOT of trouble getting Microsoft to change details to your own when you give them the serial number. At which point they'll charge you for the repair. You'll be best off, if you know the person well that you bought it from, to get them to ring, and get it repaired under their name so you'll get it done under new warranty.
you are dumb
I apologize what i meant to say is you dont know what you are talking about
Actually I DO know what I'm talking about, I've had to go through all this crap. Took 4 goddamn phone calls to get MS to change original owners details to mine. Rang when new policy came into effect (yesterday) and was promptly told since the console is second hand it's not covered under new warranty and that I would be charged for the repair (and yes it is a rrod problem). Despite Peter Moore stating that "all xbox 360 consoles"are covered. Read the whole thread next time before leaving comments like that fanboy.
just cause your one of the lucky ones who don't have problems doesn't mean there not marketing a flawed system.
Also let me point out ps1 and ps2 problems are nothing(meaning not major) compared to MS problems right now. Did sony lose over a billion dollars for there malfunctions I dont think so.
So don't even compare those two situations
I think thats what Quixand is saying other than owning Vecha lol
lol do you even know me no i thought so. I see no one likes you for your lack of understanding so, lol you lose. Just look at your stars its as plain as day, though i don't care for stars personally. But just thought i say that.
I will check to see if this has been registered. I know it has never been opened.
Oh do i hear some sort of jealousy in your post. Just cause your system isn't up to par to the ps3 and cause it can't handle folding doesn't mean you have to bash the Project. BTW NGS is kicking ass and its far more superior in every way to black.
See you in the dust.
$10 dollars says Mongul and Jay Dare the same person.
First off Bill gates don't donate and thats fact, sony does though.
Second he doesn't have $50 trillion and no would he ever donate it. You have no understanding of what a company called MS is all about.
How do you think he got billions. Yea, besides monopolizing the Computer world. He doesn't care about you little people, He is looking out for himself, seeming how he lost over a billion and a billion is a billion in companies.
So get your head out of your rear and learn facts.
LOL you do realize MS is in a heap of trouble right, the problem lies with the GPU not heatsink, and since its a prototype it basically sucks.
MS wanted to rush there system, which they didn't test thoroughly enough to see how it fares.
They are delaying the inevitable, just look at
The_Regulator and Dj Natas post, then you will learn something.
If sony makes a flawed system, they cover it up. Act like it never happened. If it's under warranty, they will fix it, but that's all, even if it's from a design defect. The PS3 is the first sony console to have a one year warranty, while the PS1 and PS2 only had 90 day warranties. The PS2 was fairly reliable (aside from disc read errors after 2-3 years,) but as they got cheaper, so did the console quality. The PS2 slim is junk, sony won't fix it after 90 days so you get to buy a new one!
They made it too small with no cooling fan. Overheating on a sony console? Yeah sony's good at covering up THEIR mistakes.
While the PS3 has been somewhat reliable so far, it's only been 7 months and sony consoles typically have disc drive problems more than anything. These usually don't appear until 2-3 years down the line, so I wouldn't call the PS3 reliable just yet. A lot of good their one year warranty will do you then. When you do have blu ray drive problems you can count on sony to ignore you though. They will be happy to sell you a new PS3 when it breaks. If you're a do it yourself kind of guy the PS3's blu ray drive would be a nightmare to adjust the laser, just due to all the different media it is compatible with. If you get the laser too close to the disc, oops! The blu ray disc coating will scratch your $200 laser (if you can even buy them yet.)
My XBOX has worked perfectly fine for 15 months, and no I don't feel lucky.
With a PS3 you're paying for blu ray's success by having no games to play, pricey hardware, and a new trend of sony selling half finished games which require paid content downloads to make the games complete! Motorstorm anyone? Wow pay more for time trial mode and 2 new tracks! For $60 they couldn't include that, no. Japan didn't even get multiplayer!
There's no question to which company has the better hardware (*cough* sony) but 360 has taken gaming to the next generation more than the ps3... at least it has very high selling games exclusive only for the 360
Got an email back asking me to ring customer services for further investigation.
Rang this morning. Told them about call on Friday, guy sounded surprised, asked me to test everything again, asked me to wait for 2 mins, then came back on and gave me a ref num and told me it would be repaired free of charge and I wouldn't be charged for shipping either. Just boxed it up and waiting for a label to be emailed so I can then ring UPS to pick it up.
Now just need to wait 20-25 working days, but at least I'm finally getting it sorted.
sorry quix you are the retard here man.
I say one comment and you take it as an attack.
I own a ps3. I owned a ps2.
Sony is not better. and neither is micosoft.
But you'd have to be blind to not take this news as good news.
But only a moronic fanboy like you would twist it.
Hey The_Regulator where did you find out that its the GPU and not Heatsink thats the problem. And how do you know its a prototype.
Do you have a link?
The failure rate was more or less confirmed by the officially licensed console repair facility in England that actually had to shut down their operation because they were receiving a few thousand consoles to repair every week and couldn't keep up. And the only reason Microsoft has extended their warranty is because of the threat of multiple lawsuits. A few RLOD lawsuits were settled out of court, and I'm sure that the amount made them figure $1b in extended warranties was less than the amount it would cost them should they settle every case (otherwise, as a very intelligent company, they wouldn't have done it). I personally love my 360 (even though I've had to have it repaired), but I will not be buying Microsoft's next console. I'll be missing out, but the only way that you can send a message to companies is by boycotting their products. The design of the 360 is very faulty, it was rushed out, and now they're trying to make the thing better (Elite console, project Falcon, HD-DVD add-ons - though I'm not too mad about the last one, since it doesn't affect gameplay). They were trying to trick their way into the #1 slot by reaching market first, and they didn't care about the consumer. I can't support a company like that.
