Xbox Live Silver members, great news - Microsoft is offering you guys a month-long Gold subscription for only US$ 1. Ever wondered what the Gold guys get that your Silver can't give? Now you can make your minor lap of luxury minus the extra cost that made you stick with Silver.

Gold for US$ 1 - Image 1

Naturally, this is a limited-time offer. After one month of being a Gold member (Austin Powers made that line sound dirty), you will be prompted to either continue your goldship, or humbly return to your Silver account. Hey, for a dollar, it should be worth the try.

But this might make the experience a bit annoying:

» M$ only drops down price when desperate

xbox live must b at an all time low 4 them 2 try 2 boost sales n attract new live members who just don't think its worth paying for live

not surprise at this move at all as live ofer nothing above or beyond psn except it comes with a lifetime money out of your pocket...

xbox live was a failing method 2 rip off people in the first place.....gamers eventually grow up 2 realize it's just not worth paying 4 it

» Agreed!

i have both PS3 and Xbox 360 and they offer the some stuff online and ps3 has PS Home too for free. £5 a month is just stupid i'd rather play all the games offline.

» yeppers

after a disappointing E3, they want to make up for their dumb @** natal and milo!

» HOME

Home sure is great, and they don't charge you for every little thing you want to buy in the game and treat you like suckers. Oh, wait, they do.

Sony and Microsoft are in the business of making money. Considering that Live is about the cost of one month of cable internet, I've got no problem paying for its services.

» missing the biggest picture

you guys are missing the biggest reason microsoft is doing this

auto renewals

i would guess 95% of people that go for this offer dont realize if you give your mastercard to MS, they automatically renew LIVE for you

so they make $1 this month, and next month, whatever they charge 1 month for

genius

» Stupid fanboys

Why the hell would MS be desperate? They won a Guinness World Record for Online Console Gaming Service With The Most Users. That includes gold and silver members... "GOLD" and "SILVER". This offer isn't to lure people to buy a 360 or games, how stupid do you have to be to think that. Would you seriously pay $60 or $300 just so you can take advantage of this deal? Their objective is to get more people to play online. It's the same as having free Gold Membership weekends for certain games. You can even look at it like it was a demo. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you do like it, you still don't have to buy it, but at least you know what you are missing.

The only thing I liked about PSN was that it was free, home, and the few PS1 games that they started to finally bring out. Other than that, they only have like 1 good content ever month or three. They don't even release a PSN title every week. XBLA gets 1 , 2 , or more XBLA titles every week.

» um

new silver members get one month gold for free...

i've got 2 gold accounts atm for that very reason.

microsoft keeps adding value for gold members, and offers like this just draw more people in.

» Cancel It ?

"Your membership will automatically renew to a standard price monthly membership at the then current price, unless you change your renewal or cancel before your membership ends. Pricing details can be viewed in the Account Management area of your gamer profile. For information about changing or canceling your membership and your membership refund policy, go to www.xbox.com/live/accounts."

So, after using my month, i can just cancel it by going to the site rite ?

by HIDEO KOJIMA - 2009-06-18 10:25
» @ mrgooey

You can also cancel straight from your box. No need to go to the site.

» Wow

I swear this idiot is on every article bashing MS. And every new post I look at is stupider than the last

"xbox live was a failing method 2 rip off people in the first place.....gamers eventually grow up 2 realize it's just not worth paying 4 it "

Are you f*cking srs? Failing method? This is possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard. XBL has continued to grow rapidly ever since it was first introduced, and it's currently going at a record pace, even in the face of the free PSN.

The fact that some people are actually agreeing with you goes to show how stupid PS3 fanboys on QJ are.

I'm not saying the Xbox fanboys are any better, but wow, this is just sad.

by Relys - 2009-06-18 11:11
» *cough*

It still should be free. :(

This is coming from someone who plays the 360 the most.

by houaruto - 2009-06-18 23:31
» xbox won the most online user record long b4 psn has out grown it

now who is on top this was a way 2 further rip off people 2 auto charge them after 1 month........and at the same time desperately trying 2 catch up with PSN
