Microsoft notes Xbox Originals titles have issues |
Ó
The folks at Microsoft are noting that the games they've set up for
their Xbox Originals line, featuring downloadable versions of some
great Xbox games, have some issues that they want you to know about. In
addition to some basic issues that are bound to pop up for every game,
some specific Xbox Originals titles also have their own problems.Xbox.com notes that publisher logos at the start of a game can be choppy on first play when caching. They also mention that additional content within a game won't be supported by Xbox Originals titles. Selecting those options may result in a crash, requiring you to restart your console.
In any event, the following games have additional issues that Xbox Originals users might want to be wary of in the future:
- Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge: There is some minor flickering at the top of the screen that happens very rarely. The "Press A to Continue" message is missing when the host player leaves a multiplayer game. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)
- Fable: There are some random bursts of audio static and some minor texture issues and a short hang up when removing tattoos. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)
- Fuzion Frenzy: There are some minor frame rate issues. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)
- Halo: There are some very mild frame rate drops.
- Psychonauts: HDMI 720p is not supported for PAL users. Running the game in 720p over HDMI will result in the game locking up for PAL users. If you are using HDMI output, set the resolution to 1080i or 1080p (anything but 720p)

All of those seem fine expect for Psychonauts. I don't have a HDMI 360, but I feel sorry for anyone that buys it and it freezes the game. Surely MS could of added an extra check at the start of the game with a message prompt if the users settings are going to cause an issue.
Software emulation is rarely perfect. I think it's good that MS has been straight forward with these issues.
If the program is success, hopefully they might pour some more resources into backwards compatibility again.
Its good that they are actually warning us instead of pretending like they didnt know.
there will be no additional content added... no achievements. I can admit I'm an achievement wh$re, so this breaks this deal rather than makes it for me. Plus the HDD disk space taken is not worth it for me.... I'll save that for original IP's until I can really justify upgrading HDD's (come on M$ it's almost X-mas)
they better be cheap....very cheap...
Each game is 1200 points, or $15. No deal for me
Considering the number and speed of new games being released the fact that MS are offering some support is already a bonus for fans of older games. However I find it strange that there is often dissent amongst users?
I have many original games and for this reason still have my perfectly functioning original xbox. I have both this and the 360 connected to my system and do on occasion go back to the old xbox for entertainemnt.
It's just that they are trying to sell these games for $15, when you can get them for $5-10 in the bargain bin, and work through backwards compatibility.
This is pretty much free money for MS, so they should drop the price to 800pts max...
