Microsoft: Newly manufactured, recently repaired Xbox 360s now "improved"

Aaron Greenberg - Image 1With all the flak Microsoft is receiving for Xbox 360 hardware failures, it seems difficult for anyone to appreciate what the gaming giant is doing behind the lines to ensure better consoles. According to Xbox Group Marketing Manager Aaron Greenberg, every 360 on shelves today is a tad better than earlier units.

Greenberg told Kotaku, "We have made all the improvements in our manufacturing process... All the consoles on the market have those improvements."

Itching to grab a 360 yet? Current owners won't be left behind, because Microsoft's repair service apparently comes with sneaky but free tweaks.

As Greenberg puts it, consoles sent for repair return home with improvements intact. "It should be similar to buying a new console off the shelf," he said. The question now is what exactly these improvements are. Anyone who noticed any changes in their machines after getting them fixed can feel free to testify via comments.

» Better by far!

Got Red ring of death. Received refurbished unit. I noticed the following improvements.

Dirt in the Disc tray.

Fried GPU.

On the upside it does mean that there is no need to wait for the return of the red ring of death as I sent it back immediately (which means it is a lot quieter). Seriously, it did seem quieter for the hour or so I had it on, but maybe the lack of fan noise meant it was just slowly boiling the solder around GPU. Ho hum.

Maybe you're just retarded and forgot to mail the package.

Wow that was quick! Got it back the same day! The same dirt is still in the disc tray from your neglegant ass!

Yes I'm just sooooo lucky never having to send back my 18 month old console....

» Dear Mr Common Sense

Hmmm possibly, but more likely that Microsoft were as negligent in repair as they were in designing it. Let's face it an extended 3 year warranty???? Oh of course, they did they out of the goodness of their hearts, didn't they? Yeah right, nothing at all to do with a 30% failure rate.

You are lucky about the console. Fortunately for the rest of us there is a balance in life, which also explains why you are a complete gimp. Your xbox has been working for 18 months because you've spent half of that time locked in a box in the basement. shhhhh daddy is coming home.
