paypal - Image 1Great news to all US-based Xbox gamers, you can now use PayPal as a method of payment on Xbox Live Marketplace. PayPal on Xbox LIVE allows users to buy Microsoft Points without having to associate your credit card information to your Xbox LIVE account.

According to Major Nelson, this service is only available for Xbox LIVE users in the US and can only be used to purchase Microsoft Points on Xbox.com and not via the console itself. You can also associate multiple PayPal accounts with your Xbox LIVE account. To sign up:

If you are new to PayPal, please sign up first and then follow the steps below to associate your account with Xbox LIVE. It’s pretty easy and just like adding a credit card to your account. Sign in to Xbox.com and head to the account summary page. From there choose “Manage Payment Options” (from the left navigation menu) then click “Add a new PayPal Account.” Follow the instructions and you’ll be set up in no time.

Or, if you have a PS3, you don't need this, since there's no fees to pay.

by xXxZEROxXx - 2009-08-09 06:56
Err

Microsoft points aren't "Fees" they're there to let you purchase things on the Marketplace.

Maybe you'd known that if you've ever played an Xbox360.

Also if you actually read the Article. It says you can only Purchase *Microsoft Points*, Via Xbox.com.

Go back HOME fanboy

Your console price tag IS the fees.

Fees

yeah fees http://www.gadgetell.com/tech/comment/paypal-adds-new-fees-with-no-notice/

.

Sure, Microsoft points are there for people to buy stuff on the marketplace, but most of it is pointless crap to be fair to FelisCatusLover , gamer pictures, gamer themes, clothes for your avatar, just a huge money making gimmick.

The 'extra content' like new maps or whatever are usually a rip off too.

I have a 360 by the way so i'm not a 'fanboy' or whatever.

by Shatterdome - 2009-08-09 10:07
Uhhh...

Although I agree most add-on content, clothes for avatars and such (for both HOME and the 360 dash) is a waste.

However, there are plenty of standalone arcade games (on both 360 and ps3) that are well worth the purchase. In order to do that you need MS points.

This is great, how could you complain about another way to get MS points onto your console....especially handy if you tend to always have money in your paypal account.

for UK

add it for UK Xbox Live users aswell

@ Ghostroo

Well lets see, the most expensive PS3 is $499 and the most expensive 360 is $499 ($449 + $50 for one year of LIVE), so there the same price. PLUS, the PS3 comes with way more then the 360. So tell me how the price tag IS the fees?

@ Shatterdome

True that it can be used for points but PayPal gives all users a free MasterCard debit card which ca be used on the PSN so its really the same thing.

by Echo307 - 2009-08-09 14:00
...

Umm, the most expensive 360 is only $399... You can get one for $199. You don't have to buy all the bells and whistles like Sony. Sony forces the options on you, MS doesn't. What if I don't need or use wi-fi, what if I don't need a 160gb hard drive? MS gives casual gamers options, Sony does not.

by FelisCatusLover - 2009-08-09 15:40
...

Yea your right they lowered the price but still, it would cost you far more to take an Xbox up to PS3 standards. The Elite is $399, but LIVE is $50 and a wifi card is $100 so you've already spent $549 and it still doesn't have a Blu-Ray drive, standard HDD, memory card slots, 4 USB ports, full backwards compatibility, etc. And by two years you'll have spent $600 (another year of LIVE) and more then likely, have sent it in for repair quite a few times as well. The lack of a HDD standard was perhaps the dumbest thing Microsoft could have done, as was a standard HD disc drive (I bet HD DVD would have won if Microsoft had included a drive standard in the 360). These are required for GOOD GAMES. The rest ain't required, but those two are. And thats exactly why Gears of War 2 is the best thing Xbox 360 will ever have graphic wise. I'll agree with you on one thing, the 360 beat the PS3 at launch. But things have changed, the PS3 now has a great FREE online service, trophies (far more sophisticated then achievements), HOME, Blu-Ray online, etc. The time is now, get a PS3.

Microsoft Points are hardely fees

But I won't be happy until they add some kind of feature where you can input any amount of MS points you need and it lets you buy them. I'm tired of having to buy 500 points when I have 750 to buy an 800 point item

And which 360 costs $450 retail again? O, that's right, none of them...

by FelisCatusLover - 2009-08-09 15:45
@ Master Chef

I don't expect you to ever buy a PS3, I know your a 360 fanboy. Hell, you'd probably buy a 360 if they cost $1000 and Microsoft killed 5 babies after each sale.

by haru3173 - 2009-08-09 16:24
@FelisCatusLover

I know you're a ps3 fanboy and doesn't even have a 360 nor at least played it. You keep saying the PSN is free and great but what feature does it actually have over live? Does it have cross-game voice chat? Party system? No.

Btw you actually don't need to buy a $100 wifi card for the 360 as it comes with an ethernet cable already. Also, the PS3 doesn't come with a headset and it costs $50. Thats why I rarely see anybody talking online.

by rollypoly - 2009-08-09 16:27
@Felis

wtf man... loosen up.

that debit card you mentioned, works just fine with live. this is just an option...

you should of left it at the first post, as you then proceeded to show exactly how ignorant you are.

your precious ps3 is far from perfect, otherwise you wouldn't have time to troll the 360 blog looking for people to argue with... go play the damn thing, or did you pay all that for it to sit there while you spout nonsense and flame bait?

by FelisCatusLover - 2009-08-09 16:56
...

I had a 360 but I sold it cause I didn't want to pay for LIVE. And yes it does have voice chat and their constantly expanding it too. Oh wow it comes with an ethernet cable! Does that mean wired telephones are better then cell phones? They come with a wire!

by haru3173 - 2009-08-09 17:17
lol

obviously you know nothing about networking. You hook the ethernet cable to the router(not phones ok?). Its the same as wifi except wireless but ethernet cable are a bit more efficient than wireless.

by Master Chef - 2009-08-09 21:23
omg

Your posts are always ridiculous stupid, I didn't think you could make em any dumber, but you just did.

I actually have two PS3s, and about 15 games and 30 BRD movies for them. I'd wager one of my PS3s, no wait, my 360, that that's more than you have rofl

I do lurve bein called a fanboy when I'm not by someone who obviously is. I also like how trophies are somehow far superior to Achievements when they're the exact same thing except they're not even supported in every game. Makes sense

by Master Chef - 2009-08-09 21:26
@ solid snicker

Honestly, if FelisD*ckLover wasn't here, QJ would be pretty boring lol

Felis isn't quite as intelligent as some of the trolls QJ used to have, but I guess he'll have to do. He still makes for some laughs

US MS point selling to other countries just died.

There is a large internet foreign market for US MS Points for people in countries that can't get them...sold for a nice profit, I might add. Now if you have a PayPal account, you can just pay face value for them. Bye-bye, scalpers.

by Musev - 2009-08-09 23:29
..

"cross-game voice chat? Party system? No. "

So? party systems are in the games and you can talk in the games or through the "desktop"

if you think you need anything else... well, what you need to do is go outside more

"Also, the PS3 doesn't come with a headset and it costs $50."

practically any usb microphone, phone headset and the eyetoy will work on the ps3 on top of the one you can buy

anyway how can an xbox 360 owners talk about add ons? thats just ridiculus.

Its like WII owners taking the piss out of the other two by saying they have to many kids games

by phiyuku - 2009-08-09 23:39
50 dollars is official

WIRELESS HEADSET. last i checked and the one i got with my xbox 360 is a poorly made wired one. I had 2 break on me. 1 was my fault cause my rooms a mess and i stepped on the headset and it broke off. the other after opening it up came to the conclusion that a wire fell off and therefore i could speak but cannot hear.

And when I did buy a new one it cost me 20 dollars. When I bought my bluetooth headset which was on sale it cost me 20 dollars and has last me forever and I use it for my phone as well. I would buy the official xbox 360 headset but thats 60 dollars, 10 more than the official ps3 headset and I can't use it with my cell phone.

Anyway hope PSN adds this as well soon so I don't have to go to the store so I can get a card to buy Fat Princess.

by Nineball - 2009-08-09 23:47
You didn't want to pay for LIVE?

Now THAT is a petty reason to sell a system that you claim to have owned. There's always the free Silver membership.

by Digitus - 2009-08-10 05:36
@Nineball

If you take away Xbox Live you have very little reason to own a 360 if you also own a PS3. Majority of games are available on both systems as is and the exclusives aren't enough to keep the system if you're not planning on paying for Live. I only have my (two) Xbox 360's because of friends who play a lot of games online so I like to play with them. I don't think I'd sell mine because I enjoy other games (the RPGs I enjoy like Lost Odyssey are great exclusives) but its not the same for everyone.

Anyway, I hate hate hate Microsofts card locking system, its cumbersome and annoying, you want to take a credit card off of an account and you have to temporarily ban your credit card and even that took a few days and long calls. (Don't know how it is now). I don't know why they can't make a "Remove credit card" button right next to the "add credit card", maybe paypal will make it easier to work with, maybe it wont.

by FelisCatusLover - 2009-08-10 06:46
...

I have 6 PS3 games and 20 PS2 games and 4 PS1 games. Also have 5 BRD movies. I don't watch Blu-Rays much due to Sony's wonderful online store with thousands of great films available for rent in HD!

by FelisCatusLover - 2009-08-10 09:47
...

Silver is *****, don't have multiplayer and they make you wait longer for dlc.

by Nineball - 2009-08-10 13:03
Where have you been?

They implemented a "Remove Credit Card" option on the Xbox internet site a while ago.

And if you don't plan on going online, the 360 is a better value because it's cheaper out the box.

by Mister Common Sense - 2009-08-17 12:36
You're no better off with paypal

http://www.gadgetell.com/tech/comment/paypal-adds-new-fees-with-no-notice/

2.9% + $0.30 for PAYMENTS.

Nobody was notified, paypal even lied about notifying people.

A "more useful experience" isn't ripping everyone off and lying about it.

I will NEVER use ebay or paypal again. They are too big and too evil. Also I don't like being lied to or ripped off.
