Confirmed! Microsoft has finally announced that starting Friday, the price of the high-end Xbox 360 Elite console will drop by US$ 100 while the current US$ 299 Xbox 360 Pro console will be reduced to US$ 249 while supplies last. This means that the only two Xbox 360 models at retail will be the 120GB version and the US$ 199 Xbox 360 Arcade console.

According to Shane Kim, corporate vice president of strategy and business development for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Corp, the company is already gearing up for the holiday season:

With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s already time to start looking for entertainment and gifts that everyone will enjoy. If you’re looking for deep experiences that don’t require deep pockets, now is the time to purchase an Xbox 360. We’ve got the best games, a vast library of TV shows and movies, new music experiences, more ways to connect friends and family, and so much more on the horizon including ‘Project Natal’ — no controller required.

David Dennis, Microsoft Xbox 360 product manager, also told USA TODAY that the price drop was not in response to SonyÂ’s move last week:

This is really an effort to pass the cost reduction we are able to achieve through engineering and manufacturing onto consumers. Reducing the number of (models) really just simplifies our manufacturing and makes it easier for our retail partners to manage their inventory and makes the purchase decision easier for consumers. It's really a win-win-win all around. With any consumer electronics device you constantly engineer and reengineer to drive better performance and better reliability. Obviously, we had some reliability issues but we feel they are largely behind us based on the quality of the product we are manufacturing today.

that they should back a 20GB Hard Drive for the arcade atleast since it's not getting any price drop what so ever.

It is Hilarious that the Wii is basically the same price as a PS3.....and more expensive then a 360.....how does that work ? I know it is still selling so they don't feel they need a price cut, but damn that is just ridiculous....

» Tis true

But you can find them for as little as 3 pennies.

No joke, search HDMI on amazon, the first result is a 3 cent HDMI cable, with good reviews

If you're dumb enough to get the arcade, then get a hard drive later you deserve to get ripped off.

» I just went to a local best buy

and I feel the Wii fad is over. I see in the wii section full shelves of wii. In the middle of the floor on the big aisles are stacks of Wiis. I saw I think 2 slim PS3s and a bunch of the old ones. Xbox 360 there was a bunch but nothing close to the amount of Wiis there.

Yea, I'm sure the PS3 price drop or slim wasn't the main factor for the 360 price drop. LMAO

by Seoulfood - 2009-08-27 18:25
» actually...

it doesn't even come with component cables anymore. Only composite. It's pretty ridiculous.

» It's ridiculous?

Neither does the PS3. But that's not ridiculous is it?
