Microsoft dispels rumor on Lite-On making Blu-ray drives for Xbox 360 - Image 1If you've been entertaining the rumored information circulating the web that Lite-On will be making Blu-ray drives, don't waste another second. Microsoft has just dismissed the rumor by releasing an official statement, putting the rumor to rest.

Even if DigiTimes has been consistently adamant about this rumor by even citing industry sources in the market, things now have been straightened out for those who are curious.

Here's Microsoft's official word on this matter:

No. Lite-On is not manufacturing Blu-ray drives for Xbox 360. As we have stated, games are what are driving consumers to purchase game consoles and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster game available.

For our customers who want a premium movie experience we offer the largest library of on-demand HD content available and the ability to play back DVDs in high definition.

Microsoft's announcement should finally quell the rumors about a Blu-ray version of the Xbox 360. We'll leave it up to you, however, to decide if the union of Blu-ray and Microsoft's console would have been a good thing in the long run.

If they did, I still won't buy it.

I've been dealing with LITE-ON dvd burners for my computer for 5 years and I hate it. Their junk!
