Microsoft denies Xbox 360 Core system price cut

Xbox 360 CoreMicrosoft have denied claims that it will be cutting the price of it's Xbox 360 Core system, both backing up previous claims and conceding to the media by also saying that retailers may have their own plans for the console. Rumours of Microsoft the 360 price drop surfaced just after E3 2006, when more details on Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PS3 emerged. Microsoft have had to admit it, some retailers have already dropped the prices of the core 360 console.

"Retail price is set by our retail partners," a Microsoft spokesperson told Eurogamer. "Retailers are already selling Xbox 360 Core System from £199.99/$377[play.com], which we believe is outstanding value to consumers." Microsoft has repeatedly denied that it plans to cut the system's price in the run-up to Christmas, but this doesn't mean anything.

The denial of such price-cuts could be an attempt to strengthen the 360's market value, keeping people buying the Xbox 360 rather than waiting for a price drop. The statement saying that retailers are already dropping prices and may continue to do so, could be used as a Microsoft get out-clause closer to Christmas. Whatever happens, the launch of the Wii and PS3 are sure to affect the Xbox 360's sales in some way or another, and if it effects the 360 badly, we could see a price drop anyway.

I wouldn't buy a 360, PS3 people, but they should lower the price of the core 360. If you buy a core 360 and a hard drive that's like buying the premium 360. The core 360 honestly doesn't make sense. Microsoft should just drop that one.
