Microsoft considering expanded Xbox Live friends list

Now that Xbox Live support for the original Xbox has been decommissioned, will Xbox 360 owners finally get a friends list that goes beyond the 100-friend limit? Microsoft is reportedly "considering" it.

Speaking to Xbox World 360, Microsoft product director Aaron Greenberg said that they are aware of what people are asking for: "We have heard from folks that they want to be able to extend the Friends List. It's something we are looking at. We haven't announced anything but it is definitely something that we're aware of."

Greenberg also teased that the friends list cap increase isn't the only new feature Microsoft is looking into.

"We're at that point now where that community has largely transitioned off and onto the Xbox 360," he said, "and now, by discontinuing that support, we're able to add more features without necessarily having to support things like that firends list integration where you could see your friends on Xbox 1 or Xbox 360.

"Having that new flexibility will allow us to bring more features to the Xbox Live Community on Xbox 360."

Last year, it was reported that Microsoft's inability to increase the friends list cap above 100 stemmed largely from technical limitations imposed by the original Xbox Live service. Microsoft pulled the plug on the service last week.

If you have more than 100 friends you need to stop spamming people to like you. Only those people who you would actually invite to a game should be on your friends list. I would like to see an auto remove option for friends that are inactive on XBL for over X number of days. I would also like to see quicker options of setting up parties. Perhaps a button on the main guide blade fro start party which brings up the friends list in a multiselect fashion to select all the people you want to invite (including a select all button). There are many great enhancements the guide could use but more than anything I would like to see a speed improvement.

it's not a want or having 100 friends, it's just a possibility. But let's think of it this way, this will allow game developers and xbox staff to add more people to their list so we can either get in some questions or even play a few games with them. Think of it as expanding the HR and forum based community. Like for MW2, if we had them on our list, we could show them the glitches and stuff and have them patched ASAP. They are fun when you're using it, but when it's used against you, it's hell.

i could only see this being needed if you have 25 freinds per. game which would mean only 4 games
