Last September Microsoft CEO Robert Batch predicted that around 50 percent of all Xbox 360 owners would go online, in a prediction to improve the 10 percent of original Xbox owners that took their consoles online using the Xbox Live service. Figures released yesterday by Microsoft show that not only have Batch's predictions been met, they've even been exceeded.
Microsoft has managed to get 60 percent of Xbox 360 owners across the world hooked up and using Xbox Live, according to Xbox Live group marketing manager Aaron Greenberg. The company's free Xbox Live Silver service is expected to have attracted most customers to hook up their 360 to the Internet. Although it does not allow online gameplay, players can still post achievements and download demos. The spread of high-speed broadband access has also had an effect on the number of 360's connected to the internet.
Greenberg said "Logic says it will come down at some point, but the fact that it's continuing to grow and we have the majority of our users connected online has really changed the gaming experience this generation."
