Micromart UK: We're not going to fix red-ringed Xbox 360s anymore

Red Ring of Death - Image 1

Bad news for Xbox 360 owners in the UK who've just had their consoles display the dreaded red ring of death: Micromart, a UK-based firm that specializes on repairing consoles, recently announced in their website that they had stopped offering repair services to red-ringed Xbox 360s.

Their reason? Apparently, ever since the infamous Red Ring of Death surfaced as an apocalyptic nightmare for all Xbox 360 owners, there's been quite an amount of repair requests for them - so much that they couldn't keep up with the backlog. Thus, they've drawn up the conclusion that the red ring's a problem inherent to the console itself. Here's the exact message posted in their website:

Micromart has now withdrawn from offering a Repair Service for the dreaded 3 Red Lights fault. This problem is endemic on the XBox 360 console and the volume has made this repair non-viable. Other repairs to the XBox 360 are still being supported.

The good news is, they're still offering repairs for the console - so long as it's not about the Red Ring. It's a bit sad, though, that this particular snag in an otherwise great console is breaking not only many Xbox 360 fan's hearts, but console repair firms' as well. Updates as we get them.

» Next gen console?

Next generation console... 2005-2007 Lol Xbox360 such a waist of money if you have you console every month in the repair service.. You should have waited to halo 3 come out thats the only good game ...and gears of war... thats all

» Yup

Lost Planet is also nice, but it's available on PC now

There are some online places that fix them, just do a web search. I used to fix broken PS2s, I might research it and try fixing some broken 360s. Some 360s can be fixed yourself without too much difficulty if you know what you're doing as I've read many tutorials how to do it. If that doesn't work, you can always send it back to MS for $140, I heard sometimes if you complain enough you can get them to fix it for $70.

» piece of pooooo

any smart ass bastards want to say that this is an isolated incident now? All 360's are crap. I want to love mine soooo badly but being on my third doesn't help. I hope this show MS that they should be in this market at all. RRRRRR I'm so mad.

by i dunno - 2007-06-28 07:31
» C'mon

Call MS. They may fix it at no cost to you, regardless of the warranty time.

by i dunno - 2007-06-28 07:34
» Who says?

Who ever said it was an isolated incident in the first place?

But anyway, wow, a non affiliated with MS repair company said they saw 30 a week for about three weeks. What is that, 90 units? OMFG!!!!

I think the 40% failure rate is BS. I have over 75 people on my friends list and two have had them sent in for repairs. I have had mine for over a year. It may fail at some point. If it does, I will send it in to MS, warranty be damned, and tell them to fix it for free.

» XBOX is getting some bad rep!

over the past what? 3 days there have been numerous articles saying how the 360 breaks and needs to be repaired. Wow. MS should stick to computers.

by Truth - 2007-06-28 08:57
» Here is how to make MS listen

MS were very smart at making sure all warranty issues came back through them, rather than bothering retailers. They knew the 360 was faulty when they made it.

But this is what you do if you have problem, DO NOT ring up MS, take it back to retailer and demand a refund. They will not want to do this but it is well within your consumer rights. Go and pick up another 360 at a different retailer, till you get one that works.

MS may not want to listen to we the consumers, but they will sure listen if retailers stop stocking 360s on their shelves.

Spread the word my friends

» hell no

am gona return my 360 fu*k this ms sucks am gona get the money and save some more and get a ps3 or just get the wii with some games

by craptastic - 2007-06-28 09:27
» well truth,

You have an interesting strategy, but I don't think it will do anything.

MS is already losing an insane amount of money with this problem, the vast majority of repairs are paid for by them and happen within the first year. Not to mention what this is doing to their reputation.

Believe me, they are working on a fix. They would be fools not to.

» problems

this console has so many problems and i was going to get one too but now i have another reason to get PS3.

by Beejbc - 2007-06-28 10:44
» mine just died for the 2nd time

Any chance the U.S. repair places will follow this retarded example set my Micromart? There job is to fix the console and since they obviously had enough practice on the 3 rings of death, it should be that much easier to do.

oh man!!! good times!!!

by Lesser Cause - 2007-06-28 12:23
» What a shame......

I mean here you have a product that people want, but idiot manufacturers who can't seem to get that when you pay $300 - $400 for something that you want it to last. Then when people actually fix them there are so many that they can't handle them. Microsoft should get their heads out of their asses and actually deal with the problem.

by Xbox is the best - 2007-06-28 13:02
» despite

despite all this people all over the world continue to buy 360s and that is reality, people who want a 360 will buy a 360 even people with 360s that broke are still going to either get it repaired of buy another one so sony fanboys and microsoft haters get lost

by ***** - 2007-06-28 13:35
» No, it isn't

Sorry buddy, but no company in the world can afford to offer lifetime warranties on something they don't make money on in the first place. If it breaks out of warranty, it's YOUR problem

by Quixand - 2007-06-28 13:45
» hahaha... man this is soooo good!!

the XBox 360 is an embarrassment to the gaming industry!!!! and you're an embarrassment to your mom for being so stupid!

» Hey

I'm sorry guys the 360 is a great console, but it sounds like it has a short lifespan. Don't get me wrong, I love playing the 360 and its variety of games, especially lost planet. I don't actually own one and I might actually buy one but not until this red light problem is fixed because if it's anything like a street light no one's going anywhere. Lol.

Yes I'm a ps3 owner.

» Dont justify nonsence

Wow they must be getting hundreds or thousands of repairs a week or even a day, right?

Wrong.

"We were seeing about 30 a week before we pulled the plug on the service," said Jeff Croft of Micromart.

30 a week, LMFAO. They couldn't handle that? Why did they offer the service in the first place?

» PS3 owners are full of crap please grow up

Only on the net, in real life I know no one whos 360 has died, FFS PS3 owners get a life, the 360 is just a machine whether or not it outsells the PS3.

by . - 2007-06-29 15:22
» To Quixand

And I bet you didn't say the same thing about the PS2 a year after it launched huh? Even more abysmal defect rate than the 360, almost no good games in the first year (360 had Call of Duty 2 and Condemned at launch, Oblivion within months, and Gears of War within a year, along with countless others but I've already named enough to destroy the PS2), and Sony's response to the defect rate was even worse than MS'. Fu*king Sony fanboys
