Xbox LiveMicrosoft's latest mandatory Xbox Live update, announced just last week, has apparently been causing more harm than good. A large number of furious users are reporting that the update has been causing their machines to crash after having been downloaded and installed. While some users are reporting only occasional crashes, in extreme cases Xboxes have been rendered virtually unusable. No previous update of this sort has caused problems on this scale.

Microsoft is said to be working on the problem, but as of this writing a solution has yet to be announced. We'll keep you posted.

people are going to blame the update because its something to blame a problem they are having on. when something stops working or does something weird you think back to what youve done recently and you blame the first thing that comes to mind, not thinking it could have been something totally different. because if it were the update it would affect all not just a few here and there

maybe the problem will fix itself. i updated my console, then i put COD in and it froze. when i restarted the console, the three red lights came on. i tried all the methods listed on the site and it still didnt work.

since mine was an import, i didnt have warrenty, so i brought it down to my local consoles shop so they can repair it. after 4 days of examination, the shop owner said that the console's hard drive locked the whole console, and that i would have to bring it to microsoft to get it repaired.

i got back home, and tried it again, and out of the ordinary, my 360 boots, i try it again to make sure it isnt just a one time thing, i pop in COD and it loaded with no problems watsoever.

» OMFG

Come on this is total bulls**t, sony fans and people in general are just taking this as an opportunity to be a**holes and tell everyone OMG my 360 isn't working blah blah blah! Their 360 probally already had a problem or something! I know like 10 people that live in my town with a 360 and the update has done absolutely nothing! So, if you guys actually buy this total crap form these gay users then... its on you.

That's nice. sadly i'm not a sony fan, i'm a very annoyed xbox fan, whose console broke, and won't be fixed in time for oblivion., which is kinda why i bought the thing in the first place. also, if you go to the official xbox forum, you'll see it's not a few isolated cases, it's hundreds and hundreds. My guess is that GRAW wasn't tested on the new update, and now i have to wait a week for a new box.

this has been happening since 3/04/06 and has happened to me as well.

literally 30 seconds AFTER the update, my 360 crashed. it has not worked at all after the crash. the system has been running flawless since launch and died 30 seconds after the update.

so pir jack and others need to confirm 1st before calling people sony fanboys.

» 360 fan had problems too

Actually, after one update, I too, had problems. I dont think the update alone caused the problem. We have to remember that this is new technology. I noticed my 360 having problems before the update. It was slowing down at times.. BUT.. after the last update. It would crash 5 mins into any game. No matter what.

I do believe those that had problems after the updates.. technically had problems before the update as well...

and kudos to the Microsoft team in Ontario. I received my new box in 4 business days!

Well done... this new machine is perfect!

» It's True.

This is true. I had no problems, and then after I updated I froze in the dash, then my games kept freezing, then I got red lights.

I sent my box to be repaired, they sent me a brand new one today, and so far so good. No complaints here.
