Everyday, the stories of gaming addiction seem to get crazier and crazier. One day, it's some guy dropping dead after three days of non-stop playing. Just this week, also, it's some guy heard at court in UK for stealing lingerie while believing he's an elf.
Mr. Robert Boyd, 45 years old, walked into a lingerie store last year and held up the staff, stealing two sets of bras, knickers, suspender belts and stockings. When he was arrested, the defense that Mr. Boyd put up was that he thought he was an elf at that time. Apparently, Mr. Boyd is involved with playing Shadowrun. His character in the game was a shaman called Beho, who carried a small sword from Japan as a weapon.
Thinking that he might still be Beho, Boyd robs the underwear store Orchid while he was disguised in a wig, a hat and sunglasses. Boyd claims that during that time, he might have "blurred the line between fantasy and reality". He says, "I can't believe that I personally did that... and I deeply regret that. If I had sought some help I would've avoided that in its entirety."
Prosecutors, however, didn't buy his story, claiming that Mr. Boyd knew perfectly well what he was doing at the time of the robbery and was using the memory loss scenario to avoid answering difficult questions. The case is still ongoing, but if you ask us, thinking like an elf hardly counts as an excuse to steal lingerie... the relationship between the two just escapes most.
