Major Nelson: No Achievements, Gamerscore for Xbox originals - Image 1After Microsoft confirmed that the Dashboard Fall update for the Xbox 360 will be arriving this December 4, the news spread like wildfire across the community. Xbox video games being available via download also fanned the growing anticipation of Xbox 360 owners.

However, it seems that the return of the classics wouldn't be as glorious as expected (at least, not yet) because of several technical issues. In fact, the official Xbox.com website came up with a list of probable problems with Xbox Originals yesterday.

For those wondering if the games will have additional features, Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) released a statement saying that Xbox Originals will have no Achievements and Gamerscore. Here's what he said:

The answer is no. These are the original games that were created before Xbox 360. In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release. I hope that clears that up.

I know it's probably not what you wanted to hear, but I thought it would be best to get clear up an misunderstanding up right up front. I'll talk more about it on my show this week. Would it have been cool? Sure it would but as many folks have noted, for a variety of reasons it's just not possible.

» yep

not buying old glitched games you can buy with manuals and cases for cheaper, mister Majordude.

And if they're taking 2-7gigs of my HDD each that's another 2-7 nails in the coffin for me on this one.

... adding the achievements might have made this more appealing but still wouldn't have been a priority at all.
