Mad World cinematic trailer for Gears of War

"Mad World" is one of our favorite songs (Gary Jules, originally by Tears for Fears). Back when "Smallville" was a big thing among us, we liked this song then. Now, in this Gears of War cinematic, it's just beautiful.

Exclusive award-winner. This exclusive title for the Xbox 360 is one of those games (in my honest opinion) that we will look back on and say, "Yes, this game made the Xbox 360 great."

It's already on its way there - remember the awards it won at E3 (you know, it "only" won the Game Critics Award for Best Console Game and Game Critics Award for Best Action Game; it was nominated for three other awards: Best of Show, Best Original Game, and Best Online Multiplayer Game - and then a whole bunch of other sites gave it E3 awards, too).

Slower than usual. Why did Epic Games choose such slow music for this video? Maybe because GoW is "slower" than your usual shooter (in the sense that you don't just run in and start shooting everything). In a way, it's a strategy game. That strategy really will come in handy because the multiplayer mode only allows four players (which some of us applaud: we don't like getting into games where every-freakin-body is running around and ruining the experience) - it's a more intimate, more personal gaming experience.

Excellent, intelligent marketing move, this video is.

Saving Sera from the Locusts this November. The video has put us in a melancholy mood, the kind of mood can only be relieved by blowing things up (other than watching "Donnie Darko"). Marcus Fenix, the star of this game, is trying to save the human race of the planet Sera from an underground-dwelling enemy known as the Locust Horde. We just want to get our hands on the controller and help him kill the bugs, but we'll have to wait until November 12 (the lucky kids who got reservations in some places will get it November 8).

Pre-order: [Gears of War]

errrrr

"Why did Epic Games choose such slow music for this video? Maybe because GoW is "slower" than your usual shooter (in the sense that you don't just run in and start shooting everything). They use slow music to try and convey the sorrow of having their planet completely *****ed over by aliens. All their history, culture and people crushed into the ground. They are trying to get an emotional response from the audience. Not only that but that the protagonist also gives a ***** and is saddened by the whole thing. He's not just some guy who goes around killing things.

Agree...

I Agree. That trailer alone just made me that much more excited. They captured the moment with the music perfectly. Marcus, staring down at the broken statue, is reminded of the people, his family, friends, and his home that were all destroyed by his enemy. They've showed us countless vids of the anger side of marcus where he is being a total badass, but it is great to see the other side of him and get that feeling like he has depth to his personality. Perfect job epic. cant wait.

ha

but...... the graphics are horrible?!?!? I am pissed that I bought an xbox360 and the graphics are so bad? What is the fascination with this game. Not worth 60 dollars!

Absolutley Beautiful...

This video blew me away, it is visually stunning, and its not just a mindless shoot-everyting-that-moves-shooter, it has a great sounding story, and if the whole game features scenes as compelling as this trailer, this game will go down in history. Think of the games to come, they are becoming about as realistic as big-time Hollywood movies nowadays, only we are controlling them, this is deffinitley one of the reasons why i bought a 360 , not too long to wait... =)

Beautifully Done

A really well done trailer, the music was beautiful and the game looks amazing (assuming that was all "real-time") Im looking forward to November all of a sudden, finally a decent game to show what the 360 is capable of.

absolutely

This isn't some stupid "point and shoot" bull***** game that is trying to attract "dumb" gamers that like to blow ***** up and have it over with. This video game calls for a more complex gamer - a smarter and practical thinking gamer, which is WHY there is so much hubub over it.

bah

Hdka...what?its a shooter, if you want RPG elements you play Bioshock,Thats why"Genre" is used alot in this form of entertainment, anyway I watched this video about five consecutive times, its well written, and the choice of song relates perfect with the video,To me the game will stand above many is th fact that we know there is/was great loss, now we can do something about it through fear and hate(and some curb stomping). The video boosted morale and grabbed a ton of new potential buyers.

I almost cried...

well not really, but his facial expression in the end while he was shooting that spider thing was like he was frightened and at the same time wanted to give up his fight. Hands down this is the sickest (best) game trailer ive ever seen. great job

lyrics

I think maybe another thing is the bit "when people run in circles it's a very very mad world". One of Cliffys major descriptions behind the game it that if you run around in circles, you're going to get killed.

Sorry...

I thought the melancholy was obvious - why belabor that point? We wanted to focus on something else: the fact that the game has great gameplay value "in the sense that you don't just run in and start shooting everything."

Not sure

looks fantastic and I've got it pre ordered from a while back but take the trailer with a pinch of salt, if you look closely I'm sure it switches from the in-game engine to FMV at the point at which you can see marcus running from above. Just pause it from this point on especially where his face is lit up towards the end, no sign of any jaggies at all and everything looks just a little to good compared to the first half of the trailer.

....

I have seen it on tv already, actually. And wtf ah, graphics are horrible?!? Lay off the crack dude, go shove a playstation up your ass.

Amazing

Alright I am not much for killing games...to be frank I have never played one... But when I saw this commercial in theatres the WHOLE adience (it was a full house) went completly silent...and just watched this. There was no movement, no coughing...no scruffling of candy bags and popcorn...complete and dead silence looking at the screen. After it was done everyone just went "wooooo" People behind me were saying how they will buy the game... I wanted to go out and by it myself. It looks terrific...AMAZING marketing job!
