Lost Planet: Japanese-style Halo?

Lost PlanetGiant bugs, killer mechs, and tons o' guns. What more could a dude ask for? Capcom producer Keiji Inafune mentioned in a recent interview with Kotaku that Lost Planet: Extreme Condition was inspired by the runaway hit FPS, Halo.

While Halo sales were reputedly low in Japan compared to its U.S. release, this hadn't stopped game developer Capcom from taking notice, and coming up with their own twist to the Xbox's flagship game. "I'm a big Halo fan, but it's not well known in Japan. It's very interesting, but very American," Inafune said about Halo, and about the new twist they had in mind.

Set on a mysterious ice-covered planet, the game puts the player in the shoes of Wayne, an amnesiac trying to find the Green Eye, a mysterious artifact connected to the planet's human life. Story aside, the game plays much like its mentioned inspiration, with the player at the command of machine guns, rocket launchers and shotguns as they fight their way through space pirates, and the Akrid: bug-like creatures that ranged from human-sized nasties to house-sized behemoths.

Then there's the mechs, Inafune's mentioned twist - and one of Japan's cultural hallmarks. Called Vital Suits, they're way more versatile than the typical hover sled or dune buggy you've ever driven in Halo, are customizable, with some variants capable of transform to suit specific needs in-game.

Lost Planet's due for global release this January, and we're certainly keeping our fingers crossed on just how much this new element adds to the gameplay, thanks to Japan's "special touch".

Well

Too bad Lost Planet sucks. I did kind of expect it though since it's made by Capcom. Also, it being inspired by Halo =/= Halo's fun. I played the demo for Lost Planet and it was horrible.

thats retarded

Japan is *****ing stupid. I love the culture and language, but they are way too damn loyal to Sony. Its like eating a subway and getting the same exact sub everytime and never trying something different! Its retarded! Microsoft is literally kissing Japan's ass and giving Japanese gamers the greatest deals and they still ain't takin it. I say ***** JAPAN when it comes to video games. Japan makes *****ty ass video games(Final Fantasy) and hates FPS's so they are extremely gay.

LOL Japanese are so bias, that is why PS3 will not fail.

It's inevitable, SONY mocks us with false hope, piss off too many fans and foe(Xbox user) alike, and still suceed. To make matter worse, Japanese was never too happy for imports for decades. It was in the 50s when Japanese stop buying American product all together, and thats when America cease trade with Japan. Somehow Japanese resume buying American product prior to the notice of trade termination. If thats the case, Microsoft gotta hit them where it hurts.

#2 you are the one thats retarded.

Stating the fact that you love Japanese culture and language doesn't really help you throw off suspicion of taking side. If you think about it, Western culture are doing the same thing. Take music for example, No Asian were ever given a chance by the general public of Western cilization especially America to become popular (except that american idol singer but that was pure mockery) and thats where all the money is. there's also another reason stating that you are bias. you mention that Japan gaming is pantsy, their gaming coding is far more complex compare to FPS engine which is being used over and over and over again. Routine process are easy and thats why doctor use it to ease patient and you compare them with the most horrific coding and graphic engineered game developer of all time(Eidos)? You sure ARE THE ONE KISSING ASS TOO.

well....

halo, halo killer, halo wannabe, far cry, half-life, half life 2, killzone, quake 4, Unreal Tournament... Katamari Damacy Wii controller Metal Gear Solid Kingdom Hearts ICO Shadow of the Colossus FF: Crystal Chronicle Pokemon(It was REVOLUTIONARY. Who would have thought it'll be entertaining to have a pet that can FIGHT) .... The list goes on dude And you accuse of Japan for being too biased and monotonic? I see repetitions from both Japan and America. But I see Innovation from only one side. Americans are racist too. Didn't you see yourselves Naming food like "Freedom Fries" and REFUSING TO FLY IN A PLANE WITH AN ISLAMIC PERSON ON BOARD. It's never about "Oh this country is biased" or "Oh that country is racist" It's always about what you've seen and heard from your puny miniscule experience with the actual country. You ever been to Japan? Have friends there? Learned the language? Lived there for more than few years? If not, shut the ***** up.

Move to Japan Kura

Kura you claim you're only seeing innovations from one side (apparently Japan). Either you've not played many games or you're clearly being completely ignorant. Look at titles like Geometry Wars, Psychonauts, Mercenaries, Splinter Cell, Jade Empire, Psi Ops, Oblivion, along with 360 online functionality (the list goes on). It's amazing you can't see the innovation in any of those. You may love those swingin' Katamari titles, but doesn't mean squat. Japan puts out just as much crap as America but you never hear of it because you're only seeing the bigname Japanese titles hit stateside, the cream of the crop. Also, playing a turnedbase RPG with the exact same plot for the gazillionth time doesn't scream innovation. You have to nerve to call American's racist against muslims? Are you a muslim? Have muslim friends? Learned the language? Lived in the middle east for two years? If not, YOU need to shut the hell up. If you're so dedicated to the cause of defending Japanese, at the expense of slamming American's, by all means go move & live in Japan.

Move to Japan Kura

^Besides. Far Cry and Killzone aren't even American. They're European.

japan, usa both are bias

#2 your talking so much bull!!! in fact the japanese culture loves gaming. arcades are everywhere its apart of there culture, they are more loyal to games than you can every imagine. just because they dont want to buy american products does not change that. its little bias , but it does not make them any less of a gamer than the FPS buffs out there. go to vgcharts and you can see the playstation sold more in america, and europe than japan, get your fact strait. so who is more loyal? comming of the strenth of the last gen sony had better game variety fact, my friend so if that says something, it would be the logical choice when going to your next system. talk about the same game if you compared first party titles alone sony has more originals, fact again. not third, second party or published by. #1 your a dush!! the thing is lost planet is a great game it has a broader apeel than the, GOW i have feeling it could sell more. gears looks great but play too much like a hard core game meaning a smaller demographic of players. lost planet is a game i think a broader audiense could enjoy. that my just opinion. and yes if anyone has a comment i have a 360 so f@ck ya dumb comments. i will buy gears and lost plant and a ps3!!!!

I'm a total sony fanboi but even i agree somewhat with 6

First of all, call "american" games western. Meaning white people make it. hahaha, well mainly white people. Secondly, westerns games are great in a way that their fun. I think the reason why we all look at japanese games is because they're fun AND cool. Dont get me wrong! Max Payne is crazy cool, so is half life and jak and so on. But the amount of western cool games can't hold a candle to the japanese.

So it became Japanese vs American games

Ok since you guys wanted to play this lets do it. Americans made many FPS like Doom, CS, Halo, Half Life. Then we got Oblivion, BioShock, Gears of War, and many sports games. That's all i can name off the top of my head. Japan..do you really want to go there? really? ok. Japan brought Mario, Sonic, Lost Planet, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Metroid, Street Fighter series, Dead Rising, Final Fantasy, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, Katamari, Brain Age, Castlevania, and the behemoth ZELDA. Ok, Americans made some nice sports and FPS. But Japan made so many stuff that just pwns. And to write off Lost Planet as terrible? eh. Everyone has their own opinion. Even when it's foolish. Next.
