Keep The Action Hot But Keep Your Xbox 360 Cool

Your job as an Xbox 360 fan boy is to keep the gaming action at searing temperature.  But like most overused electronic devices, the Xbox 360 can ultimately succumbed to overheating. Although actual cases of system meltdown have yet to surface why take chances when there are cooling devices out there (for less than $20) designed to keep your console's mercury from rising and rising.  Here's a couple of cool companions you can get for your beloved console as a token of the hard work they do to keep you amused for hours (and who knows may be days) on end:

The Pelican Fan Stand (left)

The Pelican Fan Stand is a USB powered fan designed as an extended base for the Xbox 360. It is designed to draw cooler air from around the base of the Fan Stand and blow it through the vent holes at the bottom of the Xbox 360 case.  Aside from cooling it, the Pelican stand provides a convenient place for the Xbox 360 remote and a couple of games. It also adds stability to your console if keep it in the easy-to-topple upright condition.

Nyko Xbox 360 Intercooler (right)
Unlike the Pelican Stand, The Intercooler can be used whether the console is sitting in the upright or horizontal position. The Intercooler has an on/off switch but you can keep it "on" if you prefer it to automatically power up with your Xbox 360. The Intercooler 360 cools the console by increasing air flow throughout the Xbox 360's internal circuitry. It requires internal modification of the Xbox 360 and uses existing Xbox 360 power supply

» Not really needed

These items aren't really needed if you have the 360 in an unconfined space. The 360's fans do a good job on there own, and i bet the company who produced these are playing on 360 owners fears of overheating.

» Why?

Why spend money on those when all you have to do is keep it out in the open and on a flat surface! I put my 360 horizontal and a small book under it so the fans at each end have space i put my power supply on a flat wood surface and it hardly ever gets hot.

» i agree

ALthough many 360 systems are'nt overheating there area few that do. My 360 is under my bed on a carpet, and i have never had it overheat once.

I have the Intercooler, just to be safe, but I have to be honest and say that it sounds like jet aircraft are taxiing to runways when this thing it on. It's LOUD.

It definitely takes hot air out of the 360 because you can feel it with your hand. The unfortunate thing about that though, is that it's venting that extra heat into the room. It definitely make the room a touch warmer, especially if it's not well-cooled in the first place.

There are also minor issues with it fitting on the back of the 360 if you have the 360 Wireless Network Adapter. It's a VERY tight squeeze.

» They are BLAHHH

A friend of mine has his 360 in a nice cool spot. Lots of airflow to it. He decided to get teh intercoller by Nyko, I then picked one up to ( mine is also in a well ventilated place as well). 2 days later I went over to his house and he showed me his intercooler. It thing melted to his 360. It was all brown as was the back of his 360. When I went home I checked mine and it was considerably hotter while having the cooler on. Not just a bit more of a temp increase. BUT ALOT. I wish I would have taken temps of before and after.

I wont touch the fan stand as I hate to have a console upright.

"internal modifications"?

i have an intercooler and u dont have to "modify" it in anyway.

u just unplug ur power cord put the intercooler on and then plug the power cord back in.

and just a note ITS REALLY LOUD if u think the 360 is kinda loud this makes it even LOUDER.

» Intercooler

I also have the intercooler and I love it. With the cooler off the top of the 360 gets really hot. But with the cooler on it the top gets no where near as hot. SUre its loud but when your gaming you cant hear the fan over the game.

» wow i agree it not overheating in open area but...

it's great to own one as you will notice that when on vertical position the left side of 360 is cooler than usual, that will give you a peace of mind no?

also i want to use the vertical stand fan too, I wonder if that will draw dust into system?

» both

I actually use both and i find i get a much cooler system. As for drawing in dust to the system it totally can but if u just make sure to blow the dust once in awhile its totally fine. In order to make both the fan stand and intercooler fit you have to dremel/sand the back of the fan stand although it does make it an even tighter fit when using the wireless adapter.
