Karraker to Microsoft: "XBLVM a disservice" |

When the Xbox Live Video Marketplace was announced the other day, it sure did shake everyone's foundations. A lot of people were wowed, and a lot of the feedback was positive. Over on the blue corner though (ding-ding-ding!), Sony Computer Entertainment America PR chief David Karraker had something rather sour to say.He had criticized Microsoft as, in a sense, alienating their lower-end customers (those with the US $ 299 system) with: "I think they are doing a disservice to their consumer base because they are ignoring all those people who bought the Core system." In this Core system, there isn't any HD attachment that could support the massive downloads that they're offering. He also mentioned that given a 20GB capacity in the system, 7GB of this is already taken up with pre-loaded content. Strange thing though is that he didn't point out the fact that 4GB of this 7GB can be deleted.
Anyways, he defends his statement by saying that the PS3 will have the hard drives built-in in the US $ 499 and US $ 599 units. "We would never segregate or shut out any of our consumers from our entertainment experience because they didn't buy the top of the line system," he continues. Their units will be available in two models: a 20GB and a 60 (we knew that). But how much of that is pre-loaded content (OS, shells, firmwares, etc.), he did not say.
Do we smell another flame war coming? [looks at smoke detectors]

taking little stabs at its competitors to promote their own console is more likely to hurt their own image than xbox

that being said, this time last year i was super excited about the cell processor and what sony was trying to do. i remember seeing a video of how a medical imaging company was using the cell to create 3d ct scans in seconds as compared to today where it is taking minutes to do the same fx with a roomsized server. i was very impressed. at this point though, i wont be buying one. this past year sony has done nothing but give me reason to HOPE that they fail.
i could care less that they're arrogant. i hope they ARE arrogant. I just hate seeing them take it out on me, you and all the consumers that THEY work for.

I respect Sony, they are a very reputable, succesful company, but they are becoming very accusing, whining, and arrogant lately. I hate that in people.

Sony still has better exclusives. Splinter Cell isnt isnt exclusive anyways, its on every currently existing console. Xbox360, GC, PS2, PC.
Only double agent wont be on PS3, the next one will.
If Xbox360 has soo many good exclusives, why is the console not doing as well as projections?

So in your eyes, the original Xbox was a failure, and this new Xbox360 , is a winner.

There isnt a confirmed game by any developer saying that its required for users to install game content.
Fact being, PS3 runs Linux, Yellowdog has a linux build specifically for the PS3.
Fact being having a HDD standard is a better then having an optional add-on. The Xbox360 proves that, unless someone here is going to admit the xbox360 is better without the HDD.

This company really needs to shape up, you don't even see Microsoft going this overboard. Sony just looks like a big ass now.
And once again, Vietone needs to stop posting.

And again Vietone. Save your comments for your fellow Sony pals. No one here cares, hopefully the Ps3 will launch on shedule. So you can save us your useless, uneducated comments. Oh, and the Argument about price is so freaking old, and stupid. Anyone with half a brain know $399 for everything you need to play vs $599 for everything you need to play. hmmm. But what you failed to realize is that the 360 now comes with a game (PG3 or GRAW) comes with 3 months free cold and 1250 MS points. Obviously you havent even taken algebra yet.

By the way, Splinter Cell 5 is Windows exclusive, 360 and PC, no other platform, so you might wanna read an article once in a while...
As for the statements about the Marketplace, how can Sony even downplay MS, when PSLive has ripped off everything XBox Live has done??
MS Points - They have Sony points
Demo Downloads - Sony has it now (which can also come with a charge depending on if the dev. wants to charge for it)
XBoxLiveArcade - Sony has Genesis remakes in the works
GameVideo Downloads - Sony is doing that also now
I could go on, but you get the point...Sony has done their customers a disservice by not announcing anything about a system that drops in a week and especially the online component...Sony has to play catchup in that department, so what do they do, rip off the best online service out there, pretty innovative...
Not to mention the fact that if people want their games to load faster, it takes up 5 gigs of space to load the game onto the HDD...So all in all, really, how much space will you have given the 20GB HDD??
Is Sony doing a disservice to their 'core' buyers??
