Japanese Gamers Want Oblivion! |

Undeniably, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one of the most popular videogame titles. To date, there are already over a million copies of the PC and Xbox 360 edition sold. With its release last March, American and European gamers rejoiced at the prospect of being able to move into the world of Tamriel, looking for the lost heir to the throne. The Japanese gamers, however, were not happy...as Bethesda Studios decided not to release the game in the Land of the Rising Sun. They did not cause a ruckus though; the Japanese may have thought they just have to be patient and a version of the game for them will come their way. But four months after the Western release, there's still no word of it making its way to Japan. So, just how long do the Japanese have to be patient? Apparently, four months wait is too long...as Oblivion fans in Japan have finally decided to complain.
There's this one Japanese site which aired its grievance regarding the Japanese gamers about Oblivion not making its way into Japan shores. The site has urged others feeling the injustice to let their voices be heard. We're just not sure though if this strategy will work -- the petition has just started last Wednesday and we'll see where this complaint will lead to. Well, good luck to them!

Karen R. should really think before writing. Good thing this is just an online article for a gaming site. If this was on the NY or LA Times, Karen would have been fired.

Well, this post not only has the non-news of a game's non-release (might as well post a story telling Dreamcast gamers that they still aren't getting Shenmue II in the US), but it's saturated with racial slurs. If you intend to be taken seriously as a site, posts such as these need to disappear, and do so very quickly.
The author's perpetual use of "Jap" seems indicative of their knowledge of its power as a slur (especially couple with the grammatically incorrect "them" on more than one occasion). When pronouns might suffice in traditional writing, this author decides to remind us, roughly a dozen times in what appears to be 150 words, that they are still "Japs." This is inexcusable, and you ought to have editors scour for posts like this, to ensure that it either doesn't get posted, or that it's edited for grammar and idiocy.

Don't be stupid.. Many Japanense wouldnt find the word offensive, or even really understand it as it isn't used there. Jap is found to be more offensive in Americans because of how it was used in WWII, a war slur, to describe the Japanese. Hell it was originally the term to describe the Japanese American Embassy.
If you are that worked up over the term, get out more.
With that said, the article was written terrible and I am in full agreement on that. Jap was used to much in it also. This place is full of such writing anymore, it's kind of sad how bad it is anymore.
It's about the same as calling Americans "Yanks" or white people "honkeys". I don't give a ***** if you call me either. Just don't call me a 'racist'. Besides, the only way we'll ever get over racism, as Dave Chappelle suggests, is to just get it out in the open instead of pretending it doesn't exist.
Anyways, I hope that Oblivion is released ONLY on the X360 in Japan; as in NO PC version. That way if the Japanese want it, then it'll be some incentive to get over THEIR racism (corporate and product xenophobia) and pick up a great console.

Japanese gamers are very loyal to the copanies in japan for games as many of they're parents were and still are avid gamers... Gamming is a very deep part of japanese culture... I lived in japan for few years and when the first xbox came out all of my friends their made jokes about my huge american game suitcase... They are definately biased to american games tho if oblivion was released in japan i'm sure it will take at least a full japanese voice over for them to get into it as we do...
I love they're developers but not enough of the great ones suppoert the quirky kind of games the 360 needs...
BTW... Racism ends with the end of the use the word racist...

I smile at the word "cracker". My black friends love the word "wog" because they had never come across it until I explained what it meant. actually the proper abbreviation for Japanese/Japan is JP. You don't use the word Japs because it is considered a racial slur, and i'm not even japanese and i find it racist.
You see this is one of the reasons why MS failed in japan, its because MS marketed the 360 like an american product without any regard for their culture.

As a Japanese-American, I find it offensive when someone uses the term "Japs." Sorry, I know history and the term was never used in any good way. It's just as bad as the term "n*gg**" or "ch*nk." How *****ing hard is it to write Japanese? If you don't have a problem with someone using racial slurs, than you're probably a *****ing racist as well.
Also, don't give me any ***** about how you wouldn't mind being called a *****, *****, cracker, skinhead, etc. I think only the term Japs is ever used. I've never seen articles mention "*****s", "*****s", or "crackers".

Why are people blaming MS on this title not hitting Japan? It's Bethesda's game, they decide what countries it hits overseas (as well as the game's publisher). Can you imagine all of the Japanese titles that Western gamer's wanted a taste of that never hit stateside? Even exchange.
