Jack Thompson seeks TRO for Halo 3's release |

Staying true to his promise of filing more public nuisance suits against violent video games, anti-gaming activist Jack Thompson has now set his eyes on Bungie Studio's Halo 3, a popular FPS game for Microsoft's Xbox 360. Thompson today filed a complaint asking the Florida court to declare Halo 3 as a public nuisance, in effect banning the game's distribution in the said state.
GamePolitics reports that it was Thompson himself who released the full copy of his complaint to the public. The seven-page document calls for the banning of the game's release in the state of Florida, with the lawyer claiming that Halo 3 being "a video game that allows the virtual reality player to rehearse violent acts resulting in the death of one's virtual victims" qualifies it as a public nuisance.
The recent event involving his 15-year-old son being able to purchase an M-rated video game in a local Best Buy was also mentioned in the report, with Thompson stating that "there is no question that this is not an isolated incident and it will occur as to Halo 3 sales" adding that Best Buy is currently pre-selling the game online "to anyone of any age with no verification."
Having stated these arguments, Thompson is asking the 11th judicial circuit to issue a "temporary restraining order, to be followed by a permanent injunction, prohibiting both defendants from selling this Mature-rated video game." It should be noted though, that the 11th circuit is the same entity that junked a similar complaint also filed by Thompson. The junked complaint was directed towards RockStar's video game Bully for the PlayStation 2, released last year.

Does this guy have nothing better to do? Constantly hearing about him is becoming annoying. Also, I doubt he could block a game's release, especially a game this big.

I'm not defending Jack Thompson. But he's a caucasion man. You will be allowed to say hateful things about him on QJ.net, but go searching for the 1.8 million year old fossil where they try to tell you that your ancestors are from africa and see where the guy responded speaking up against it and see where that they hid it.

He shouldn't be worried about violent games at all. If a parent doesn't want their child to have a game, they don't let them buy it, simple as that. No one said you have to buy an M rated game.

All Jack Thompson wants to do is ban every single violent/shooter game. What he is trying to do is get rid of a whole genre of games. Wait I should rephrase this. He wants no more M rated games.
even if this did happen florida courts are slow as hell. i live here and it would take them a month just to pass this. and since the game comes out tuesday, it's not going to happen.

It's just with all of the guns for sale in USA and the fact that many good citizens get shafted by corrupt politicians and false promises that he has had a breakdown and needs help. The reality distortion being that virtual enemies are the same as real. I love a game like Quake 3, take my rocket launcher and play single player. All the bots have the same name, that being my human resource manager whom i like but argue with continually. Such a good way to let off steam by blasting him with a rocket launcher in a virtual world. On Fridays I drink a beer with him in the real world.

Now we need a lawyer to say something essential to golfing is dangerous, like golf clubs. A golf club was used in the mid 70's murder of Martha Moxley in the Michael Skakel murder trial. Therfore, golf clubs are a public nusiance and need to be banned.
Golf courses are environmentally unfriendly, with forests being cut down to make room for them. Rather have unaltered woodlands than a haven for rich pricks. Also a public nusiance.
My 15 year old son bought a golf club, which could be used as a weapon,without being asked for ID. That employee needs to be fired and the store shut down.
