Jack Thompson: OK with Mass Effect, Cooper just uninformed

Jack Thompson - Image 1In a recent correspondence between Jack Thompson and Kotaku's Brian Crecente, Thompson made clear that he has no problem with Mass Effect for the Xbox 360 and that the statements made by Cooper Lawrence  (which she's already apologized for, BTW) were uninformed.

Thompson pointed out that, "The guy (referring to Cooper Lawrence) who shot his mouth off about it had no idea what the Hell he was talking about." He further added that Mass Effect was fine and that "this contrived controversy is absolutely ridiculous."

Obviously, this may surprise some people considering the way Thompson has lobbied against video games such as such as Manhunt 2 (Wii, PSP, PS2) and Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PS3).

Either he hasn't done the research himself at all to see why Mass Effect is still a rated M game, or he thinks that by saying this one is okay he'll regain a small measure of his lost credit.

Little does he know that not a single person who pays attention to these kinds of things cares one whit about anything ol' Jackie has to say anymore.

my girl pointed to the one difference between say GTA and mass effect...

since you can indulge in just about everything illegal or scary to conservative types in both games...

she suspects it's the fact that there isn't a clearly defined path for the player, it's up to the player to decide to kill or steal, it's purely a means to an end. not the goal itself.

You can say the exact same thing about GTA while free-roaming, and plus playing some missions in Mass Effect you have to kill
