It's official: Xbox 360 Elite revealed + HDMI, 120GB HD confirmed

Ever since on10.net (Channel 10) announced to keep watch for the first of two major announcements from Microsoft, we kept our eyes glued on their site. And all it took was a quick refresh button for Tina Wood's post to come up: it's their exclusive video of Microsoft's unveiling of the Xbox 360 Elite. Yep, no shaky camera-phone footage; it's a real deal, 1-on-1 interview with Albert Penello. The long and short of it:

Yeah, you heard that right. It's as if they're hitting one, two... THREE birds with one stone. Not only do they confirm the long standing rumors about the Elite itself, but now, they've also confirmed the other rumors about the 120GB hard-drive and HDMI support.

No, there won't be much of a performance increase, not noticeably anyway. The only thing (supposedly) added in this console that would affect performance is the 65nm CPU, which hasn't even even confirmed. The only real difference you'd see with the 65nm CPU is it may be a bit quieter, but aside from that there won't be much of a change.

you wont see a decrease in sound with the move to 65nm , at least not directly. The move to 65nm would drop the temperature of the cpu pretty nicely which i guess they could then just turn down the fans, but probably not. IF the new chips is 65nm it would be just less prone to lockups or other overheating issues. Don't forget the HDMI port allows full 1080p on the majority of tv thats support it. Pretty cool new system and if i hadnt already bought a 360 i would have bought this, i just hope the larger HDD doesn't cost like 200 dollars.

Well, The smaller "tech" size from 90nm to 65nm is pretty good. In a nutt shell, Less Heat, Less electricity needed, faster per chip. (It does not mean that this Box is faster then the original ones... It just uses LESS of the processor to lessen the heat issues)

First there will proberly be a white version to (which I would prefer), and adding an HDTV is a choice people can do if and when THEY WANT they are not forced into just one choice, at the moment the Blu ray independent hardware is the least selling system and if it fails which it looks likely to that is the system you are stuck with in the PS3, Independant HD players have both flopped.

DVD9(also included in 360) is the system that latest sales of hardware,softwa re,games and hire shows people are going to be sticking with for for years to come.

The reason the 360 is so freaking loud is because of the DVD drive....otherwise the fans are much quieter then my PC....

3 SKU's, now that's a bit much, and by the way Albert Penello talks it's as if his saying that every time new technology comes out and the 360 owners want it, that Microsoft will just make a new version of the xbox360 give it a name and just release it along side the other ones.

Seriously though if their going to release a new version of the xbox360 they could do what Sony did with the PS2 to PS2-slime line and just release a smaller 360 at the same price as the premium and the move the old premium to core price, that would seem like the better way to go, cause right now it's just looks like Microsoft is playing catch-up with both HDMI and HDD space while also trying to trick dumb consumer by making them believe that the black xbox360 is a cheaper PS3 (yes their are really dumb consumers who would fall for such trickery).

Anyways, I just wonder why Microsoft feels the need to release this new 360 version, I mean their clearly leading the market, and they just broke even a few months ago, so what's the need to release this elite xbox?

To me it seems that they feel some how threatened by either Sony or Nintendo.

It's called xbox live movie markekplace....

Being able to download and view HD TV shows as many times as you want is only good if you can store lots of tv shows....

An hour long show will run at least 1 GB, so it's makes TOTAL sense to release this version for those people who have too much money on their hands, and actually have $2000 tv's and like to pay to download HD content....they are so elite...

For the rest of us that are broke and pirate our TV shows, we have the premium....

For people in the hicks that don't have hi-speed internet, but want to kill locust instead of pigs once in awhile, there is the core....

Nintendo has been doing this for ages, why no complaints there ?

dont forget the hdmi port, If you want it, for $80 dollars more you get #1 a hdmi port. #2 hdmi cables (ps3 does not come with hdmi cables) and #3 100 gig more storage than the premium xbox 360 and 60 gig more storage than the ps3, I think all that is worth 80 bucks.

I agree with Shatterdome: The word here is "CHOICE" for all gamers. If you are a person that has LIMITED money and you want it to buy a new "gaming" system then you could buy either the "core" or "Premium". Hint: Nintendo is doing the best in this scenario. For people that have HDTV's and are willing to either play games or watch high definition content via digital download or physically then they can choose either "Premium" or "Elite". For people that have money and can afford the "fulled" experience then they can go with "Elite" version. Once again the word is "CHOICE".

On the other hand if you go to PS3 which is a good system, you dont have a "CHOICE". You either have to upgrade your Entertainment Center to get the fulled experience.

Some advice to xbox 360 gamers: If you are currently happy with either your "core" or "premium" then you are set for gaming heaven with a chance to "UPGRADE".

yes it has hdmi but dvd9 does not have the disc space for1080p on every game or almost any game. PS2 has out sold 360 wii and ps3 combined and continues to sell more but that doesn't mean crap it's just been out longer just like dvd when it first came out it took more than 4 years before it out sold vhs's there is roughly 10 times as many blu-ray players(ps3's + stand alone units) as there are hd-dvd players in american households today and yes $479 is cheaper than $600 but not if you already own a 360 that's more than $800 just for a bigger hard drive(and hdmi woooooo!) sounds like a ripp off to me why didn't they get it right the first time. yeah it's cool they listening to consumers about what they want but i dont want to buy more than one system. i hope they do come out with a way to just upgrade my hdd because this is g@y.

Big question is will the premium support the 120g HD with an update or not. If it does then you can buy a bigger 2.5 drive, clone your old hd over to it. gotta be able to do that for less than the $180 sticker on the120 g drive. only real difference between the premium and elite. What a pitiful attempt to clone PS3 by Microsoft. They don't even have the balls to include an HD-DVD drive to allow true 1-to-1 comparison! I wonder, are they now also going to sell an "Elite" HD-DVD drive, painted in BLACK? --Because, of course, BLACK is such a great marketing color for a company that has distinguished their console by an unusual (for a game console) white finish... unless of course the real goal is to make it look like a PS3.

And before ffc gets all in bunch over why Sony fans are on this website; well if 360 is so good, why are you wasting time talking about it and not spending every breath with it? --Why not sleep with it, shower with it, etc? ...Maybe because it's overheated and you're waiting for it to return from the repair shop (like a friend of mine). Ok.. Now I don't think I want to get the XBOX 360.

I was going to jump in to 360 3 weeks ago but good thing I waited if the rumor was real or not.

But after watching dude and listening carefully. I found out the release date on April, 2007 (watch the show and dude said the release date http://on10.net/ ), and that's not all ... after watch 5mins of it.

It maybe me wonder if I should still buy XBOX 360 core, pre or the elite version at all.

The dude said he's been working on his baby for a long time and its nice to share it.

Hmm.. could that mean they have another one coming in 2 years or less?

XBOX 360 is not even close to 2 years old and they came out with a 3rd edition already.

HHmmm.. MS is software company (Windows has service pack).. Is this xbox 360 service pack 3?

the CORE and Premium was just a BETA system to know where the flaws (i.e. ring of death and after 4-5 months my xbox is dead).

Oh yhea that's 1 reason why I did not get 360 yet after I saw and read the threads from xbox.com forum. And if that thread had slowed down then I would have bought one...but it did not. Even in you tube you can see the ring.

But still this machine Elite has a lot of things missing for me. For a person who has a game room.

1) Optical Audio - does it have it..then I'm wrong.

2) Able to split Audio and Video without downgrading the quality using a splitter or an adaptr. watch the video you will hear the dude say it.

3) Wifi

If you think 3 is not a lot.. then you don't have to rant about it.

The above missing is what stopping me. I'm hoping MS would really look further to the future not 2 years from now.

I still have the old xbox..now in the brown box along with atari and other game consoles I had from the past.

BTW: I'm a gamer not a machine hater.

I got a HDMI Cable with my PS3... I dont know what the hell your talking about.

That said, I may buy this since i have an open HDMI slot on my TV, and to use my old X360, i need to change the cables around.

This strikes me as a blatant PS3 ripoff with the colors and added HDMI, and the fact that they need an adapter to allow you to split the audio into a receiver seems like a silly, overly expensive way to fix the problem. Seems like more wires I have to ***** with and untangle. (For the PS3, you can set it up to send audio though the normal port or fiber optic, and video via HDMI without any adapters. )

Stop acting like the xbox360 fanboys. I hate when people ***** talk the PS3 on it's site, and I sure as hell hate it when people do it so tactlessly on any system.

Plus, the Xbox is no where near the first American made gaming system.

I do believe that the PS3 can be upgraded to 500+ GBs very simply, so I guess PS3 is the best choice in both cases. ;)
