After numerous rumors following up this year's GDC, and despite Molyneux' attempt to shake those rumors off with vague comments, Microsoft Game Studios today announced the acquisition of UK-based developer Lionhead Studios.

The studio will now "immediately begin creating content exclusively for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows platforms". What this means for their current titles in development is still uncertain (I don't think heads are about to roll too, yet), but at least the upcoming The Movies Expansion for PC should be safe from any sort of sudden re-organization.

Shane Kim, General Manager of Microsoft Game Studios commented on the acquisition: "
Lionhead is a shining example of the innovative and creative talent that has delivered some of the most influential and unique games experiences to date, and I am honored to welcome Peter and the incredible people at Lionhead Studios."

Not sure if many gamers will agree with this statement after the disaster that was Black & White 2. Will Lionhead now be able to develop the groundbreaking titles they always promised, but never delivered? Only time will tell. And, of course, the Fable sequel that is now undoubtedly to follow.
