19 Tidbits you may have missed in the recent Halo 3 video - Image 1

If you've seen the video "Is Quisnam Protero Damno!" for Bungie's Halo 3 on the Xbox 360, then you probably have your own opinions about it. If you haven't seen it, you can watch the video from our previous article first. There are 19 tidbits that were pointed out by Phillip Levin and Sascha Lichtenstein in their article over at the Advanced Media Network that you may have missed. Some QJ writers only noticed 10 of the 19 details mentioned. Would you care to see how many of these you were able to take note of when you viewed the video?
  1. The Assault Rifle Sounds Like the SMG
  2. The Assault Rifle Has Longer Range?
  3. EveryoneÂ’s Running Around Using the AR
  4. More Confirmation that You Start with the AR, Not the BR
  5. Looks like Unreal, Not Halo
  6. There is Less of a Focus on Dual-Wielding
  7. Grenade Explosions Have Same Radius as Halo 2 Grenades
  8. “We Need to be as Good as Halo 2”
  9. No Recoil for the Assault Rifle?
  10. ThereÂ’s a Porta Potty
  11. Assault on the Control Room from Halo ReturnsÂ… in Multiplayer
  12. More Maps Designed Specifically For Certain Game Types
  13. You CanÂ’t Use Weapons While Using the Shield Bubble
  14. Trip Mines Revealed
  15. The Sword is Back, and so is the Pistol
  16. You Can Watch Saved Movies From Multiple Player Perspectives
  17. Bubble Shield and Trip Mines are Not Grenades – The X Button Revealed?
  18. Deployable Air Lifts?
  19. Deployed Items Must be Picked Up, They Are Scattered Across Maps Like Regular Weapons
The tagline "more than meets the eye" applies to this video with all of the little easter eggs one can find from watching it. If you catch more tidbits that were not mentioned, feel free to let the rest of the Halo 3 community know.

Halo 3 is slated to be released in the U.S. this fall. Japanese gamers will have to wait till December 31 before they get their hands on the game (barring imports). If you can't wait for the release, it has been announced that the beta starts in May.

To get more specifics on the 19 tidbits, you can click our read link.

well first how the hell does this vid make it look like Unreal.. it looks liek halo to me.. most likely the best halo too, nothing looks like it will be a dissapointement in the vid

also

"You Can’t Use Weapons While Using the Shield Bubble"

first off they didn't say or show this in the video so... wtf!?

second most the bubble will stop bullets and possible even vehicles, however you can easily walk into it and melee the person inside and well as shott him on the inside and he can shoot back..

most of your bullets up there are either A) Your opinion, or B) unverifiable at this point

This post is worthless and should be saved till some of this can be verified, or replace "The Assault Rifle Has Longer Range?" which you cant verify in any way, with stuff like "Both the Assault Rifle, AND the Battle Rifle will return"

this is an amateur post and whoever blogged this needs to quit filling an amazing blog with worthless crap

# Halo 3 is Dead No Matter What [End of Discussion] PeriodGuest 2007-04-11 10:49
* Halo 3 will be trampled and humiliated by Lair, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk (true next-gen Unreal Tournament 3), Heavenly Word (true next-gen God of War) and Killzone 2. All these will be released in Sep. 2007.

* Halo 3 is NOT made from scratch. Halo 3 is an updated version of Halo 2 which was made in 2004 by using Renderware engine (confirmed fact; Bungie chose this method to save huge amount of development time and budget); therefore, Halo 3 is NOT a true next-gen title. Halo 3 can’t even use X360 console’s most power. Renderware is far inferior to other advanced engines such as, Source, Unreal, CryEngine, etc.

* This is why Crapalo (Halo) 3 looks like Halo 2.5 in terms of graphics and gameplay (no breakable buildings, no deformable objects, etc). This new Halo 3 alpha footage looks crappy. There're alpha footages of Gears of War and Resistance available online, unless you are blind, you must know the fact that alpha builds are 90% same as the final versions.

* Halo 3's world (in alpha vid) is as shinny (bright, flashy with HDR lighting effects) as the one in Perfect Dark Zero. PDZ was the best looking game when it was released in 2005. PDZ and Kameo were made by Rare which is a subsidiary of Microsoft Game Studios (MGS, not the Metal Gear). MGS also owns FASA (which makes Shadowrun) and Bugie (Halo 3). All these companies share all kinds of technologies (DirectX based) which are used to make X360 games. This is the biggest reason why Shadowcrap, Perfect Dark Crap, Kameo and Halo 3 have extremely similar graphical quality (artistic design).

* Bungie's officially announced in Nov. 2006 that Gears of War has too much superior graphics to Halo 3's final (retail) version (GameSpot’s editor asked “What game has better graphics, GoW or Halo 3?). If you know the definition of ‘paraphrasing’, above statement means “Halo 3 will look very much inferior to GoW in the graphics department.

* Killzone 2 is built from scratch (true next-gen); therefore, KZ2 can use most potential power of PS3 hardware. Guerrilla which is a subsidiary of Sony has 120 employees (programmers and graphics designers). The total budget for KZ2 is $21 million (for your reference, Epic spent $10 m to make Gears of War with 90 devs).

* All Sony’s internal developers and Sony’s very close world class companies share all kinds of technologies which are used for making PS3 games (OpenGL 2.0 based). These world class developers are those companies which make games like: MotorStorm, Metal Gear Solid 4, Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank, Virtua Fighter 5, Resistance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, White Knight Story, Tekken 6, Heavenly Sword, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, Lair, Uncharted-Drake's Fortune and of course Killzone 2.

* Polyphony’s Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 is world's most popular racing game in the entire gaming history based on the number of copies sold. GT HD (4.5) demo was released in 2006; all game reviewers were surprised that GT HD was just good (80/100) when they expected that this new GT must get review scores of 95/100 just like all its predecessors. After this shock, Polyphony officially confirmed GH HD was an upgraded version of PS2's GT 4; that's why it looks just good. Polyphony then confirmed that they totally scraped the whole GT HD project and working on GT 5 entirely from scratch. Bungie must take a leaf out of Polyphony’s book; Bungie should scrap Halo 3 then make it from scratch then released it in 2009.

* I have to admit (even though I don’t want to) that Halo 3 will sell 10 millions more X360 consoles because Halo 3 is the only game on X360 which is worth $60 (99% of all X360 games are pure garbage; It's more fun to play catch-with-the-box than it is to play the games)

* I’m NOT a fanboy; if you disagree with me, then you HAVE TO say that I’m an X360 fanboy due to the fact that I’ve owned my X360 console since the release date in 2005. I spent a hundred times more time on my X360 console than I did on my new PS3 (I recently bought it).

wow ima mixed console fan i love both 360 and sony for both of their exclusives but you are the biggest fanboy of all time. You do however make a few valid points with halo 3 using a *****ty engine but hey as logn as the games fun and still im more of a sony fan over my 360 but i still tihnk the 360 is pretty damn good youre just like crazy and have no life

hes right, halo 3 seems to look pretty lame. Seems like they are cutting corners (using xbox 1 engine) to get it out quick, but xbox 360 has been out for a year and a half which is ample time to create a game from a better engine. You didnt even need to mention ps3 games to make your point, but everyone must be a little bit dissapointed this is just halo 2 HD

i dont really like the game so i dont care, but if i did i would be pissed.

# Well, no...Shatterdome 2007-04-11 13:42
If they were to create a game from scratch again, it would take alot longer then 2 years, try 3-4....meaining we wouldnt see Halo 3 untill 2009.....

Sorry but I don't care about graphics THAT much, especially since Halo is more of a sci-fi game, and the shiny smooth look fits it.

I am much happier they spent their time thinking of new weapons, grenades, vehicles, gametypes and other little things that make a game worth playing for years, not just graphics....graphics will not keep you playing a game, only gameplay will.

"Watch recorded movies from different viewpoints"

Recording your matches alone is the biggest next-gen addition i've seen to a game, and that's only the tip of the iceberg....

# @ long fanboy post above meGuest 2007-04-11 14:30
Actually Halo 3 is doing what GRAW did. I5t is using a custom(and beautiful) engine for the single player but using an upgraded version of the last games engine for the multilayer. Alpha builds do not have final textures, the final lighting engine, or the final particle effects so it could still look awesome. And FYI, even Halo 2 had partial destructible environments so they could easily add more in Halo 3.

It's obvious you have no idea what renderware is you delusional fanboy POS.

# Yeah...Shatterdome 2007-04-11 14:34
Destructable environments is something bungie wanted to focus on for Halo 2, but due to lack of power, it only made it in a very limited way.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the surprises (huh?) that bungie has in store for us is totally destructable buildings...

First of all guys, the game is shown in Alpha stage, it isn't supposed to have polished graphics.

Secondly, whoever wrote this article should maybe know the halo franchise before writing on it.

I mean come on.. Assault on the Control Room from Halo Returns… in Multiplayer. Please tell me you were joking when you said that.

They are there, fact. Look at the placing of that lift, it bypasses the entire base wall and lets him right in. That is not there by default, he placed it.

I'll agree with that. Though I'm not a Halo fan, I do know that Halo is bigger than anything the PS3 is going to release this year or even the next. Lair? C'mon. Heavenly Sword? Please. Those aren't gonna sell consoles, but Halo 3 will just like Halo 2 did when it came out.

I guarantee Halo 3 will be the best selling game of all time, despite what a few select idiots here say.

I don't even care if you argue that you dislike the halo franchise, but please, you sound like more of an idiot than the writer of this article when you say halo is "dead"

Halo 2 came out at the END of 2004, it is the BEGINING of 2007 now....Also I meant that it would take 3-4 years (probably closer to 4) since the launch of 360. There would be very little, IF ANY developement they could have done in 2004-2005. So yeah, 4 years from 2005 + 2009, I don't care to wait that long...

# Uh, noGuest 2007-04-12 11:27
Developers get dev kits long before retail release, Bungie has confirmed work started on Halo 3 as soon as Halo 2 was released. Granted mostly conceptual work (actual work on dev kits probably didn't start until about six months before retail release of the 360, since that is when many developers got their kits), but you gotta start somewhere, it still counts. So he's right, Halo 3 comes out three years after Halo 2 (Nov. 2004 - Oct., Nov. 2007)

i find it funny that some people are so stuck up that they dont even bother reading what people have to post like" ITS A *****ING ALPHA" or "ITS NOT COMPLETE". Halo 3 will be the best no matter what.

As for the 19 captions bull***** i got 2 they even they over looked.

1. X button is most likely used for flag/bomb/whatever speed. If you look at the vid where the asian guy is running with the flag...you can see right before that, that it looks like hes tapping the X-button and the bar on the center screen is increasing. +1

2. you have a choice between 4 normal grenades, 4 plasmas, and 4 spikes...meanwhile you have to pick up the bubble shield/trip mine. +1
