Making use of Ageia's PhysX processor chip, Immersion Studios' CellFactor is touted as "not your average FPS". If you have doubts regarding this, maybe you'd like to try out the latest Cellfactor Beta R36 Demo (thanks for the tip, C4PT Birdsye!).

To run the demo on a mid to low graphics setting, you'll be needing the Ageia PhysX Accelerator, an AMD Athlon 64 or higher or Intel Pentium 4 2.5 GHz, 1 GB System Memory, Shader Model 3.0 Graphics Card with 256MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or better, and ATI RADEON X800 256MB. But if you want to experience this upcoming game in its full glory, the following system requirements are needed:
  • AGEIA PhysX Accelerator (required)
  • Windows XP Home, Pro, MCE w/ Service Pack 2
  • AMD Athlon 64 or higher or Intel Pentium 4 2.5GHz or higher
  • 1 GB System Memory
  • Shader Model 3.0 Graphics Card (GPU) with 256MB RAM
  • 2GB Free Hard Disk Space
Featuring both multiplayer and single player, this beta demo will allow you to customize the bots. There will be one level for play and Reality Builder software for creating your own levels. Compared to previous demo releases, Beta R36 has an improved spatial partitioning algorithms and implementation resulting to an improved performance during explosions. There is now also an improved rigid body performance and an enabled cloth support.

If you meet any of the system requirements and are dying to see how CellFactor plays out, feel free to give the demo (download below) a go. Have fun!

You said it yourself, this game is currently being developed for Xbox 360. You may not think it's important, but a lot of people value having any background info about the game, esp. its origins. Besides, this one will give a "feel" for what the game will be like when it comes out.

# anyone seen the CF Video?Guest 2006-06-19 02:42
Anyone (apart from me :D) seen the CF Video? Its absolutely stupendous. If PhysX reallly works that well on normal PCs and not some Uber Dev box then I guess I will have a kidney going up for sale sometime in the near future so I can buy a physX card, a couple of badass pciE gfx cards and possibly a new CPU (although an AMD FX-55 should be OK). I really want to be able to fly and bat missiles out the way with a ro-ro container.

# PhysX sucks!Guest 2006-06-19 06:38
You can use a hack on the pc demo (older version) that enables you to play the game without the physX card. Check this out: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1056037

you get a few more fps with the card during explosions, thats it! I'm sorry, but I wouldn't pay $300 for that!

U DONT NEED A PHYSX CARD

For those of you who dont have a PhysX card and want to try out cell factor, have no fear! theres a quick fix to run it. open up the cellfactor icon properties and at the end of the TARGET line, put in "EnablePhysX=false"

without the quotes. then just run the demo and your good to go.

the minimum settings contradict eathother, an x800 doesn't support sm3.0

# Installer crapGuest 2006-06-20 07:05
Sorry to say it, it is crap. Running x64 (why wouldn't I when I can and have a CPU with some 64bit instruction set), installer for CF "CellFactor requires that your computer is running Windows XP"

I am!!!
