How to keep the nasty Xbox 360 gamers away |
Ó
Over at the Gamerscore Blog, Tom Hynes (aka Bastelyon) has written a rather insightful piece on making your time on the Xbox Live arena a lot less hostile and forbidding. Specifically, he's written about steps you can take to protect yourself from the rather unwholesome folk who might actually prefer to use their Xbox Live Camera in the nude.
All done gagging? Let's move on!
He first mentions the basic style of completely blocking communications from everyone. If you've completely had your fill of screaming and shouting and people sending utter stupidity through the online service, just shut them all down. This is also perfect for gamers who want to actually focus on their games rather than getting very weird distractions from other players. Let's take his directions straight from the post: "For example in UNO, click Start > Help & Options > Camera Settings > (Y) Disable Camera."
His second suggestion is you to set your connections to accept only chats from friends. This is definitely useful for when you want to talk to specific people without having to worry about everyone else. His instructions require to work from the dashboard: "From the Dashboard, click your Gamer Profile > Edit Gamer Profile > Privacy Settings > Communications > Friends Only." You'll also notice that you can do the "block everyone" option through this way as well, so there's a lot less hassle if you want to set up some worry-free gaming time.
Lastly, you can simply file a complaint. Bastelyon assures us that complaints are read and actions do get taken against people reported, so you might as well take the extra time to hand in a complaint when you're done with your game, right? He writes, "From a person's Gamer Profile: File Complaint > Complaint type > File Complaint." There may be some extra hurdles to jump, but the process should be painless for Xbox Live users.
All in all, let's just try and have fun, shall we? Enjoy!
